Today the National Guard is in charlotte. 44 people were arrested last night as protesters and police clashed. At least four Police Officers were injured and one person shot. Last night began with a prayer vigil for keith scott the man shot and killed by police tuesday. Then. A group broke off and marched downtown. Someone in that group say it wasnt an officer who pulled the trigger. That man is on life support in critical condition. After that shooting police began firing tear gas to try to break up the crowds. I would encourage you to exercise your right to protest but to remember that there is a right way to protest. And destruction of property and violence does nothing but multiply it. Police and protesters were out early hours of the morning. Protesters broke windows. Mayor tom barrett says the trauma that results from the citys social issues including pervasive poverty, milwaukee is accepting some help from the federal government. Thursday, a large contingent of the citys Civic Leaders join milwaukee mayor, tom barrett, in announcing whats being hailed as a five year, five Million Dollar violence prevention effort. Officially titled the resiliency in communities after stress and trauma grant, the money comes from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health services adminstration. The money will be used to address issues which are contributing the violence the grant is about improving access to behavioral health, empower Community Residents in the reduction of trauma, and sustained, community change. Milwaukee is one of just eight cities to receive this grant. The citys health commissioner, bevan baker, says the grant allows city leaders and others to view violence as a Public Health issue, and treat it, accordingly. Sources tell us a nine year old boy was shot in the neck and t Childrens Hospital. Police say the boy was shot by an even younger boy, a six year old who apparently grabbed a loaded gun and fired. County Health Officials shut down a hotel in tennessee over a legionnaires disease outbreak. There are five reported cases of the disease from people who stayed at the hotel last month.
