The most plausible likely interpretation, in our view is that the copilot through deliberate abstention refused to open the cabin door. Ryan the Prosecutor Says he does not know if lubitz planned this in advance saying only that he took advantage of the pilot leaving the cockpit to start the descent. We can conclude that in all circumstances its deliberate. Ryan at this point officials are set to believe theres no reason to believe its terrorism related and his name is not on any terror list. World leaders have been quick to react. This is a tragedy. It is so difficult to understand. Ryan back at the crash site, they are combing the debris for clues and they want to find the planes second black box the flight data recorder. All of these people either coming or going inharptly have trust in the pilot that they are going to be flying with. But maybe not today after what happened with that intentional downing of that german aircraft. Word of flight 9525 pilot suicide quickly moved through Reagan National airport this morning. Air travelers saying that the event has impacted their confidence about flying. But they have no choice in many cases but to fly. There have been 24 pilot suicides in two decades. This morning, people reacted to this latest one. Its very emotional. I have three children so i think about that. Im a teacher so you know pretty serious, those kids. Thats very sad. Im very saddened for the children particularly that were on there because their eyes ended so quickly and sad for all those people on it. They had no control. It wasnt their fault. I think the warm air will make its way across the Chesapeake Bay briefly before we have to deal with the cold front later this evening. The front is evident now with the showers across western pennsylvania. If you notice in yellow those are developing heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Well track that through the Late Afternoon or early evening. I dont think well have any sort of wide solid outbreaks of heavy thunderstorms. But heavy downpours, scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds definitely a consideration later this evening. Temperatures will hold into the 70s at that time or until that time and then well start to get a bit cooler here as we head through the late night and overnight and he isespecially for the next couple of days. More on the timing coming up in a couple of minutes, kimberly . Kimberly crews are assessing the damage left behind after seven reported tornadoes in arkansas and oklahoma. The Severe Weather happened overnight. At least one person was killed. Several more were injured. Thousands are still without power this evening. The owner of a Gymnastics School in oklahoma is being praised for moving more than 50 children and their instructors into a storm shelter. There was kind of a loud boom and a lot of rattling and the lights we want out we want out and we heard a lot of screams. Kimberly everybody made it out of the building with the help of firefighters. Oklahomas governor declared a state of emergency in 25 counties. Autria metro has released new safety videos showing riders what to do in the event of an emergency in a train or station. This comes two months after the deadly smoke incident at Lenfant Plaza metro station. Brianne carter is live in southwest for us right now to show us what the video includes. Brianne . Brianne well this is certainly stirring up memories for many people here along the yellow line after that incident that happened two months ago here along the yellow line outside of the Lenfant Plaza station. Now, these videos that were posted by metro today, there are three different versions in both spanish and english and show riders what to do. Autria the man accused of abducting u. V. A. Student Hannah Graham made a brief Court Appearance in charlottesville today. Jesse matthew went before a judge at a preliminary hearing. The judge ruled that matthews abduction charge will be processed in albemarle county. Not the city of charlottesville. Matthew was the last person seen with graham before her body was found in albemarle county. His next hearing is set for may 5th to determine a trial date. The university of maryland student who sent a racially charged email will not return to campus. Jeanette reyes is in college park with how students are reacting and the steps the school and the fraternity are now taking. Jeanette its the talk of the university of maryland campus. A racially charged and sexually explicit email sent by a white Kappa Sigma Fraternity member. I was pretty horrified. Jeanette the email was sent to six people over a year ago but went viral after it was recently discovered. Last night the school said the student behind the email would not return to campus this semester. The Vice President of Student Affairs goes on to say, in part that the hateful email from january 2014 had shaken our campus. I know many of you feel hurt and angry. The universitys investigation into the incident is continuing and due process will be completed before any final determinations are made. They should have definitely looked more into the situation before dismissing the student. I think that thats a good thing. Jeanette kappa sigma said the student was suspended after the organization found out about the email and the student submitted a letter of resignation. Calls to the fraternity went unreturned today but in a statement on its website, it says, in part the language and views expressed in the email were inexcusable and are in stark contrast to the values of kappa sigma fra terpt. They are counter to everything kappa sigma stands for. Its very hard for something you say to be kept private. Jeanette the University Says it will create a student Multicultural Group to advise the president of any diversity issues here on campus. Thats where they were heading just before 4 00 this morning when jacob simply refused to wait any longer. Jacobs father delivered him on the highway near the shady grove exit in rockville. As new York Fire Department is reporting that one person has confirmed to be very critically injured. Also the New York Post is confirming 30 people total have been injured. There are 200 firefighters right now on the scene trying to get this blaze under control. Now, this is in the east village section of manhattan on Second Avenue and seventh street. We here at abc 7 have been able to confirm there are at least two restaurants and four apartments in that building. Were told there is an explosion. There was a collapse. And then as you can see afterwards, it became engulfed in flames. Thats what we have right now. At least one person critically injured. New york post reporting 30 people total have been injured. Student bloodied during an arrest last week appeared in court today in charlottesville. The incident involving Martese Johnson was caught on camera and led to a Virginia State police investigation. Northern Virginia Bureau chief Jeff Goldberg is live in charlottesville with the details. Jeff . Jeff well kimberly it was standing room only inside this courtroom. But really the hearing only lasted about two minutes. Both attorneys, prosecution and the defense agreeing that they are not going to continue this case until that investigation from Virginia State police is complete so the next hearing set for may 28th. Now, Martese Johnson looked straight ahead walking in and out of court. Did not take any questions from reporters. But well over 100 u. V. A. Students in attendance today. Many of them wearing black in solidarity with johnson who was a 20yearold third year u. V. A. Student from chicago. Now, early last wednesday morning, this video captured abc Officers Holding johnson to the ground, his face bloodied after he was denied entrance into a bar. Johnson was yelling that he was a u. V. A. Student and calling the officers racist. He was charged with public intoxication or swearing and obstruction of justice. However, witnesses say johnson was not beligerent and tests show he was not drunk. We support him whole heartedly. I know we have his back. We dont hold court in streets. We hold court in courthouses through very well defined legal processes and thats what were taking part in now. Jeff now, many questions have been raised about the 130 abc officers across the state. Yesterday, Governor Terry mcauliffe signing an executive order requiring those officers to be retrained regarding use of force. However, a lot of the students that we spoke with today said that does not go far enough. Some of their hopes and what they hope to happen in the future across virginia coming up tonight at 5 00. A judge sentenced michael kemp today on charges including first Degree Assault and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Last june, kemp walked into a t. G. Silver spring mart and pulled a revolver on the owner whose 19monthold son was in the back room. When he went after the child, the owner hit kemp over the head with a fire extinguisher sending him to the hospital. Autria wow. Former congressman Jesse Jackson jr. Is out of federal prison in alabama and on his way to a Halfway House in either baltimore or the district tonight. Jackson reunited with his family after spending a year and a half behind bars. The illinois democrat was convicted of spending 750,000 in campaign funds. His wife sandy must serve a year long sentence starting in october for her role. Kimberly its still a little chilly out but the d. C. Circulator announced new summer hours. Starting this monday the circulator will run two hours later on weeknights. Saturdays service will be added on the Union Station Navy Yard Metro and potomac avenue metro skyland via barracks route. It adds sunday service on game nights for the nationals. A little farther west in Allegheny County at Frostburg University weve got showers and thunderstorms on the horizon here. 53 degrees. Winds kind of gusty now. So this is kind of the location off to the west as the cold front producing showers and storms and theyll be moving closer. Were thinking probably 7 00 to 8 00 in the evening hours for most of the metro area. Theyll be moving in from the west. You can see the difference behind the cold front and ahead of the cold front, up to 75 at Reagan National. I think thats the warmest weve been so far this evening. A definite change in temperatures tomorrow and a more noticeable drop for the day on saturday and maybe just for fun, well throw in a few snow flurries around here. Here comes the front. Clear skies or partly cloudy skies in our area. Now the front, some downpours. We dont expect any widespread outbreak of thunderstorms, anything like that. But because the winds are so strong at the surface and strong aloft, these heavy downpours will bring that very gusty wind to the surface. It will get windy. Good showers isolated thunderstorms through this evening. And later tonight, kind of a reinforcing push of some of the rain. This is in oklahoma where seven tornadoes touched down yesterday over oklahoma and over arkansas. Total one person killed during the storms. 35,000 people were left without power and with seven twisters caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage. Of course this is just the beginning of Severe Weather season for oklahoma. And for that matter for us here in the washington, d. C. Area even though we are not looking for anything to become extremely severe as we move through the afternoon hours into the evening hours, dont be surprised if you dont hear a few rumbles of thunder around our area. Officers found the body just before noon in black hills Regional Park on parksville road in boyd. His exact cause of death has not been released. Police are working to identify the man. Police in State College say they talked with women who appear naked or partially naked in pictures that are posted to a penn state fraternitys secret facebook page. And police in california say the alleged abduction of a woman for ransom is all a hoax. An investigation found Denise Huskins and her boyfriends claims that she was kidnapped are unsubstantiated. The 29yearold woman was missing for two days and her boyfriend reported she was abducted from his home. The statement that mr. Mike conneen got a glimpse of the cubs ahead of their public debut this weekend. Mike the National Zoos andean bear cubs born in november drew oohs and aahs this morning. They are absolutely beautiful. Much smaller than i expected. Cute. I like the black one. Mike long time zoo supporters local media and a delegation from peru gathered here to learn the cubs names. Theyre in the languages of indigenous communities in their native andean habitat. The aymara name mayni translates to unique and the quechua name muniri means warm or loving. More species and having a partnership towards preserving a rich side. Mike the cubs are one of five liters born in north american zoos in the past five years. Their species is considered vulnerable. One step away from endangered. The folks that live in their native habitat, they try to make have this library because we cant do it on our own.
