Here with my dad. Love being here chicago fans were in the house as well. Here come the hawks the mighty blackhawks and they were loving this washington weather. This is like miami for us. No snow its great. This is almost tropical to us from the food to the fans. This game is a new years tradition that caps fans have passionately embraced. Caps, caps, caps caps its been a long day for a lot of people. Gates opened at 1 00 but there was a fanfest across the street that started much earlier today. So a lot of people came out making an entire day of it. Fortunately, the temperature got up into the mid 40s so it was a great day to be outside and obviously, a fantastic finish to washington, d. C. s first winter classic. Reporting live in Nationals Park suzanne kennedy, abc 7 news. And the day is not over for those fans yet right, suzanne . Thank you very much. Prior to the game the big discussion was whether the glare off the ice would cause a problem. But once the puck dropped, it became about two well matched, solid nhl teams fighting for a win and wow, did it have a great finish. Robert burton continues our team coverage. He is inside nats park with keys to the caps win. Robert . Yeah. Heres the question is there a better way to start off 2015 . You come to nats park to check out the winter classic. The caps taking on the blackhawks. And it ends with a troy brower goal to win it. I think 42,000 fans got their moneys worth today. Well lets go to the action. Were on the ice. A Beautiful Day for fans but a tough start for the players. There was talk of you know delaying the start time because of the glare. They decided to switch sides halfway through the first period to give both teams a fair Vantage Point with the sun. So first period, 10 caps. The great eight, Alex Ovechkin in the right place at the right time. Cleans up the rebound in front of the net and scores. Its 20 caps. Less than 30 seconds to go tied at two, caps have a power play. Ovechkin shoots. Misses entirely. But troy brower is there to put home the rebound for the gamewinner. Caps go on to win this one 32 was your final. Coming up a little later in sports, were in the clubhouse and im pretty sure Everyone Wants to hear from the guy, troy brower. Back to you. Fun stuff. Thank you so much robert. After those initial concerns about sun glare at todays game the weather turned out to be perfect for hockey but these clear skies may not be around much longer. The protest organizers told us they did not choose this location because they have any specific complaints about Montgomery County police. Rather, they say it was simply a location that was easily accessible by car and by metro. But what started as a peaceful protest ended with an arrest and vows of more disruption in the new year.
