Kent State University has reached an agreement to pay 145,000 in a discrimination case. the case involves two former students who claim they had psychological disabilities when their socalled emotional support dog wasnt allowed in school housing, they sued. today the university had no comment but will pay them 100,000 and the rest of the settlement will go to a Fair Housing Group and the u. S. government. now, it seems theres little federal regulation when it comes to what institutions when it comes to dogs. today our Andrew Horansky did digging into this very gray subject and he joins us with a friend from westlake. hi, andrew. reporter hey, jimmy. you know, it always clear where to draw the line. take doc, for example, he is a rescued greyhound who you say see volunteering in local hospitals but the thing is with doc that he is a therapy dog, he is not a service dog, and therein lies a very big difference. under the americans with disabilities act Service Animals are legally allowed in public places. trained for weeks, even months, their owners suffer from serious medical conditions. but socalled emotional support, therapy, comfort or companion dogs are different. the ada doesnt give them the legal right to go anywhere, leaving it up to the discretion of their owners and businesses, which is confusing many people, as websites now offer Service Dog Vests to just about anyone with the money to pay. carrie stack is a trainer in lakewood. my motto is, you know, the saying is doctors moto, first do no harm. when youre bringing a dog into a situation thats ill prepared for these situations to have happen. reporter and the more cases like the one in kent really go to court to clear perhaps this could become legally but they are allowing dogs like doc on airplanes, in hotels, it really is at the discretion of the business, although those businesses arent legally required to allow them, at least not yet. back to you. thank you very much, andrew. and thanks to doc for coming on the news at 7 00 tonight. clevelands population is still dropping. imagine that. but its new residents are younger and much more educated and local companies are pushing to recruit the best and the brightest. senior Political Correspondent tom beres checked out an event today that connected businesses and students who want to build careers and lives here. hi, tom. hi, jim. ago we were talking about the brain range, who had to go somewhere else to find jobs and more exciting places to live. but in the past few years with the job growth in medical and tech sector, the trend is reversing. it was a packed house at the aloft hotel at more than 100 College Students or College Graduates came to learn about companies in cleveland. in the past bigger, more thriving cities have drawn them. theres a new recognition, cleveland can provide work and an affordable place to live and a thriving life of quality and culture. came to screen candidates. brian rock moved to the region 10 years. the difference in cleveland from then and now is so dramatic, its almost unrecognizable and its really good. its come im willing to drive an hour to work to come and spend my days in cleveland because of the environment that these are the next generation of leaders in the community and even though we know how great cleveland is and what cleveland has to offer them, sometimes if youre off at college, elsewhere, or living your life, they may not see all the developments that are happening in cleveland. students heard from the citys premiere pitch man David Gilbert of des decimatio cleveland. clevelands population of College Educated adults between ages 18 and 34 has increased 91 since 2006. of course the realistic question here, how many of them will want to keep living in the city once they start raising families and have to decide whether their children will go to school. jim. thanks very much, tom. still to come on the news at 7 00, dinner in the dark. how the best chefs in town are surprising foodies with a completely unpredictable. plus, you want to win big . the lucky numbers you might want to consider if youre playing for the huge powerball jackpot. all of that right after youre watching channel 3 at tonight a Traffic Alert to tell you about and its going on right now. two separate accidents are causing backups on two highways tonight. first the righthand lanes of i 90 eastbound at west 25th, they are closed due to a 12 car accident. Police Say Three people were taken to metro and in critical condition. i71 southbound after the jennings freeway, the lefthand lanes are closed. now, we will continue to follow this and we will let you know when the lanes reopen and you can follow it all night long over on wkyc. Com. now its time for dinner in the dark. this Award Winning idea isnt what you think it is. the lights are still on. its anyones guess which great cleveland chef will be making your eight course meal so joining me tonight co 14 of dinner in the dark co founders of dinner in the dark. how did you come up with the idea . his idea. now almost 5 years old, right . yes. we were looking for a way to get chefs to get in the kitchen and work together. we are all friends, we hang out together, we work 16 hour days, get together for a beer maybe. last thing we want to talk about is cooking so this is a good way to get everybody together and also to raise money for charity, give back to the community. thats important, the proceeds go to charity. how does it work . if im going to dinner in the basically its at a different restaurant each month so whoever decides to open up their doors to us, you know, we are grateful to the restaurants that do that and we get six different chefs in there each month, so essentially its like eating at six different restaurants in one place. how about that . now, is it a whos who of chefs in northeast ohio that have jumped in . it can be at times. theres a great brotherhood of chefs in the city. Jonathan Sawyer has done it. there you go. and pretty much everybody in the city has participated at some point. its most importantly chefs are willing to say, yeah im going to get involved in this, its a great cause . yeah, absolutely. what makes the experience for food lovers so great, do you think . well, like i said, six different chefs and then really the basic goal is to give back to a northeast ohio charity so each month we give the money back and as long as it stays in northeast ohio, then we are cool with that. okay. so the next one is coming up a week well, next monday night, right . tell us where and when. roxio fusion in madison avenue in lakewood. how would people find out more information . is there a website . you said its a great word of mouth event that people are so into it now that they say that dinner in the dark is or dining in the dark is coming up . we have a website, under construction right now. we are going through changes with it but obviously you can follow us on facebook. you know, you described this really well. you know, these people that are in this business and the chefs, you work 16 hour days and yet you still want to do Something Like this. and i think thats great. i think that thats great here in cleveland that theres such community and kind of like a brotherhood, you know. absolutely. great. it doesnt happen in every city around the country so its great to have it here in cleveland. once again, lakewood coming up next monday, this upcoming monday is the next dining in the dark. yes. good work. thank you very much. thank you. and happy fifth anniversary for dining in the dark. thank you. the jackpot with half a billion dollars as the prize, we take a look at some of the numbers that come up most in powerball drawings. plus, just how warm is it going to get before it gets very cold again . 26, 41, 22, 16, 42, 35 and 39, and the most popular powerball number is 20. now, lets walk you through what your chances are better of odds are better that you get struck by lightning. odds are better that you become the president of the united states. odds are better that you get bitten by a shark and the odds are better that you get hit or die from an asteroid falling from outer space. to give you a little perspective, its been almost exactly a month, november 7, since the last winner took home the powerball jackpot. since then, it has been 17 drawings. theres been an ebb and flow here in lakewood at this store, there have been folks coming in, many people saying this may be my lucky night, even if i dont win the whole thing, i would be happy. if this rolls over tonight, the next drawing will be worth at a minimum 675 million. wow. and that may just be enough to convince jimmy haslam to sell anybody the cleveland browns. we will keep an eye on that one. he would take a loss on that. he bought it for over a billion. reporter at this point, good point. thanks, chris. its always fun to think about what you would do with such a large jackpot so producer danielle checked facebook to see our friends wish lists. you always see donate to charity, but we wanted to look at the more specific and creative answers. leslie says i would create a rec center specifically for special needs families but open to all and retire. this one says move to siesta key and open my restaurant. and Darlene Arthur echoed many others saying first thing i always said i would do before anything else is donate a huge amount to st. Jude. few others said they would disappear. i want to know what you guys would do with all that money. now i feel terrible. i think i would donate it to st. Jude after hearing that. yeah. i always thought of buying a big time racehorse so i could go to the Kentucky Derby and my lovely wife cheryl could wear walk down the infield. i love it. thanks, danielle. first of all, betsy, i want to wish you a very merry christmas. happy new year. and on the back end of that, happy new year. appreciate it. thats it. we are all caught up now. i think i would spur a little or spare a little cash to get tucker more lessons on pulling a cart. yes, yes. or therapy. or being a therapy dog and passing the test. getting him all the way there. want to give everybody an update on the traffic conditions we told you about a few minutes ago. we will zoom in here first to the cleveland area and again that accident is on i90, the eastbound lanes, two lanes blocked from exit 169 and i pulled in the Traffic Camera here, you can see those two lanes are blocked there, the right two lanes, left two lanes still getting through, there is no major traffic backup with this but there is definitely some slow going. this is the camera i90 at fullerton so we are looking eastbound lanes so be advised of that if you are headed out or if you have family or friends out and about. and the accident on i70 southbound, no major delay on this one but again just past exit 246 at 14th street to about pearl road or so so that is down that way south of the airport. there you go. thats caught up. now we have mostly cloudy skies to report to you across Northern Ohio. temperatures in the 20s and low 30s. we are going to see the temperatures fade back into the 20s for much of Northern Ohio tonight. we are not alone in this, its a cool but seasonable picture as far as the regional temperatures go but north of us there is cold air brewing. that will unleash here come sunday, falling temperatures through the day on sunday. now, between now and sunday, we will be dealing with a series of storm systems thats in the plain states right now. that will likely start to impact our weather come friday into saturday and then ultimately we will have the temperatures dropping on sunday. well, we will start off with very seasonable temperatures in the 20s with partly cloudy skies, i think a mix of clouds and sun will be the rule for the day tomorrow, midday temperatures making it into the 40s and our high temperatures across the area likely to be in the low 40s, we will find those temps fading quickly as we head into the evening and that will then set us for another warm day coming on friday. so low 40s across the area, clouds and sunshine for your day tomorrow, your outlook is one that does bring rain back into the picture on friday, continues the rain, the mild temperatures on saturday, but then your Window Nation seven day forecast does take a big turn, dropping temperatures through the day on sunday, we will go rain to snow, scattered flurries and a very chilly day on monday at the very generous 23degree high. we will stay in the 20s then for tuesday, another surge of cold air comes in wednesday. boom, boom, boom. boom, boom, boom, is right. thanks a lot. we are looking for a new head coach for the browns. we will tell you how the search is going next. tonight on nbc, brought to you by honda of mentor. okay, everybody. get your scorecards out and follow along. the head coaching search has started, so here we go. candidate number 1, adam gase, current offensive coordinator for chicago bears. goodyear in denver with Peyton Manning and the broncos. he interviewed with the browns today. he already interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles for eight hours yesterday. hes going to interview with the eagles again over the weekend on a second interview and hes going to interview with other teams like the eagles and dolphins and giants too. so he is the hot candidate, it teryl austin scheduled to interview today with the browns. current Detroit Lions defensive coordinator. 50 years old, did a very good job in detroit with the lions defense, especially after they lost some key players due to free agency last year. doug marrone is going to interview with the browns tomorrow. do you remember a couple years ago he was the hot candidate for the browns job. coming out of syracuse, university. then he coached the bills for one year as their head coach. he left there and he went down to jacksonville, he was the offensive line coach with the jaguars this past year. hes going to interview with the browns and then come back and meet with the dolphins friday. ger rome lender Jerome Henderson used to be the secondary coach with the browns. hes currently a cowboys defensive back coach and that will be coming up later on in the week on friday. thats where we are right now. thats it. exciting. it is exciting. seems like we do it every other year. as a matter of fact, we do. entertainment tonight is next. thanks for watching channel 3 news. take channel 3 news and weather with you wherever you go, text wkyc to 25543 right now to
