Building, police say Martinez Morales ran away, leaving behind both men, one of whom suffered cuts to his leg that needed several staples to close. Found the two passengers in the vehicle. They never did locate the operator. He was located the next morning and interviewed reference this case. Andy according to court records, martinezmorales told police he was driving right around the speed limit when he just lost control of his car and also addressed the judge in court. I was on my way to work that night. I was supposed to start for the first day. Andy police say in this case lives were put at risk. Any time a vehicle s traveling at a high rate of speed through a downtown area 10 00 at night, 11 00 at night, there s a lot of traffic and to cut across a median like that where people could be walking or through a parking lot where it smashed into a building, it s always a dangerous situation. Andy police say this case is are looking to speak with anyone who may have information about this crash. Reporting live in manchester, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. Tom a New Hampshire cemetery hit hard by downpours. Brooks that run on either side of the Union Cemetery in laconia spilled over their banks, leaving serious damage behind. As Heather Hamel explains, the cemetery s caretakers have seen flooding before, but this is a first. The banks of the durkee brook have been steadily eroding over the years and the last rainstorm really took a bite out of the north end of the cemetery. Another foot of land gone and the water is coming dangerously close to gravesites like this. And it looks like the brook is heading right towards this mausoleum. And it s not the only area hit hard by mother nature. Across the cemetery near meadow brook, a culvert collapsed leaving behind this gapping sinkhole. It s 30 feet long and eight feet deep, and again, very close to gravesites. An engineer was preparing to take a kayak into the pipe and see if the damage extended even further. The plan is to make repairs quickly. They already got an emergency wetlands permit and new piping will go here and reenforcements here. And it could cost the better part of 100,000. We will take care of it. Hopefully, it doesn t rain again that hard this year. And even if we have another rainstorm like that, if this is the only weak point and we get this fixed and durkee brook fixed, we could be in really go shape. Heather here on the north end of the cemetery, reenforcements will be brought in redirect the brook so the people who are buried here will continue to rest in peace. Reporting in laconia, Heather Hamel, wmur news 9. Tom commended 2016 coverage commitments 2016 coverage what the tonight, the latest wmur Granite State poll takes a look at the 2016 race for governor. Maggie hassan still enjoys good job approval numbers as more than half of those surveyed like the job she s doing 54 approve, 30 disapprove. But since hassan announced she ll challenge kelly ayotte for the u. S. Senate next year, the race for governor is wide open. Wmur political director Josh Mcelveen has a look at the numbers for some of the potential candidates. Josh it s important to note that this survey was taken before governor hassan went public with her decision pursure a senate seat. But with her now out of the race for governor, it appears the Corner Office under the gold dome in concord is completely up for grabs. The race for election of governor in 2016 is absolutely wide open. Josh and that s because out of the potential field on both sides, voters are largely in the dark. For republicans, only executive counselor chris sununu has declared his candidacy and he s the most wellknown, just ahead of former congressman and state senator jeb bradley. State representative Frank Edelblut is looking at a run, but still needs to introduce himself to 85 of New Hampshire. For democrats, it s all speculation at this point as Maggie Hassan just removed herself from the governor s race. So out of the potential field of candidates, the name id award goes to Portsmouth City counselor stephany shaheen, but not by a landslide. 67 of voters in the state have no idea who she is. 68 don t know who chris pappas is. 76 don t know who Mark Connolly is. 78 don t know who Colin Van Ostern is. Josh obviously, there is a long way to go before the field starts taking shape, but in a president ial Election Year that now also has a highprofile senate race built into it, candidates on both sides will have to work for attention. This one is going to fly under the radar for a long time and it s going to be fascinating to see what happens. We have a late primary in september and i imagine all of these people are going to see an opportunity for them. Josh of course, with such a wideopen field, it s possible more candidates who weren t mentioned in this survey could get into the race as republican senator Jeanie Forrester and democratic senator Andrew Hosmer both say they are seriously considering it. Plenty of votes still to be had Josh Mcelveen, wmur news 9. Announced she ll challenge kelly ayotte for her senate seat in 2016, a conservative issues group is hitting the airwaves in a big way. To find a cure, senator kelly ayotte is working with senators of both parties. Tom with a focus on women s health, a Group Calling itself one nation has purchased 1. 4 million in broadcast and cable time in the New Hampshire market. But it s an indication of just how much money will be spent in this race by both parties for an election that is still more than a year away. Tom tonight, more than 65 years after he was declared missing in action, a local hero has been laid to rest. He disappeared while serving in the korean war. A look at our one shower chance later this week. Jamie unh hockey plays it tom a grassroots effort has started on the seacoast to get what some are calling a dangerous toy pulled from store shelves. Jennifer it s not so much what these pens made to look like hypodermic needles can do, but rather what some say is the confusing and dangerous message they are sending. Wmur s Jennifer Crompton has the story. Jennifer c. susan haight says what she saw on a trip to the local target on sunday left the teacher and parent deeply disturbed. Party packs of toy pens made to given the current heroin epidemic affecting families, she finds it not just in poor taste, but appalling. And with children now finding discarded needles even on school playgrounds, a toy that s both confusing and dangerous. And other parents agree. It s sickening. I don t know how anyone could think it s appropriate for halloween or whatever they re thinking. I just find it unacceptable. Jennifer c. but when haight asked the store manager and the Corporate Office to remove them, they would not. So she posted photos and comments on facebook, asking others to contact target. This mother of two among the many who responded and reposted. This needs to be shared and spread so that it s taken off the shelves and people are aware it s not a joke. It s not a toy. It s a serious problem. Jennifer c. while experts don t suggest the product s timing is malicious, it can be seen as insensitive to a horrifying issue. It s really important to be mindful around issues like these and also to open it up to a larger conversation in the community because there s a huge problem with opiates and heroin in New Hampshire and it s not Getting Better right now. Jennifer c. target responded to an inquiry from news 9 indicating there would be no change in the product s availability and that other retailers sell products like them, but the grassroots effort rages on.
