Some people look at butternut and use it during the holidays a lot. Some of the commercial pie guys use this as pumpkin. It makes a really good pumpkin pie. Then you have the sweet dumpling. These are the newest squashes that just came out this week. Carnival. When buying them, really simple. We always look for that sunshiny e shininess. Winter squashes, dont. You want to look for that dull color. You want that orange on an acorn. That means its nice and ripe. You want to look for a dull color. You also want to look for heavy in the hand. If its heavy that means its not dehydrated on the inside. Third, you want to shake them. You dont want to hear the seeds rattle on tin side he inside. When they get old the seeds come off of the pocket and rattle around. Also, when you bring them home, they last forever. But you want to keep them in the a cool place. Not refrigerated, but in a cool place. Until you get ready to use them, use them as a nice fall center piece. Oh yeah, you can use them for about anything. We cut them in half and put maple sugar issue syrup or brown sugar in them and bake them. When you cut these put them on a flat surface, hit this to start your knife and then go through with it. That way when you cut it in half what youre going to have is this. Then you clean the seeds out and you have a really good squash. Theyre out this and available at reasonable prices this time of year. They keep for a long time. What im going to talk about right now is in the news i want happy stuff all the time. Sometimes we dont have happy stuff. This is going to be a little bit of happiness, especially to me. California has sent a trailer load of donated produce to hunts point market in the bronx which youll get here probably today. On monday the hunts point market in the bronx, the produce market, are going to sell that donated truckload of produce and give back 100 of the money to ag against hunger which is agriculture against hunger. Now, theyre doing their part to help against hunger. You know, people ask me ive been in produce my whole life. I tell them, these guys are hard businessmen, but they are the best when it comes to donations. Im in the hunts point market day after day. You see more and more stuff given away. Theres no people there to tell you that they gave them away, but theyre there to help the people. You know, my father, when i was a kid, used to say to me the reason he came to this country was because americans loved to help americans. And thats what we did. He used to say to me, listen to me, you know in america you might be hungry, but youll never starve. Im hoping that comes true. And i want to salute the guys over there at the hunts point market for doing this. The whole market is doing it. Profits of the load of produce and im telling you i shuts alute you guys for doing that. Because they know that feeding the homeless and the hungry is something that we have to do in this country. A passing School Bus Driver who got out to help was also hurt. Police shot and killed the dog at the scene. On long island an escaped prisoner let police on a wild chase in a stolen balance.
