Its sunday were expecting the main event. Tomorrow well start out with sunshine. Clouds move in towards the afternoon before the sun sets. Clouds, a couple of isolated showers, but by midday, we start to see the storm system move in. It will be in the form of snow at the start, but rain will move in across new jersey and that rain snow line will work northward. Before that happens, on sunday, we anticipate steady snowfall. It will be a heavy, wet snow which could reduce visibilities at times, especially during the Late Afternoon and early evening. Thats when we expect accumulating snow to pile up. Once the rainsnow line creeps into new york and new jersey, snowfall totals will diminish where the higher amounts will be into connecticut, the Hudson Valley and northwestern new jersey. Before its all said and done, thats where im going with the swath of the highest snowfall rates. Along the coast with the mixing, im expecting totals to be diminished a little bit. As we usher in the snowfall, were going to usher in spring 12 30 in the evening. Quite a way to usher in the next season. Tonight it will be partly cloudy with a couple of isolated showers and cold temperatures. Tomorrow, well start out with sun. Well have increasing clouds through the day. Steve in fox 5 health news, the bronx ranks as the unhealthiest county in new york. For quality of life, including poor physical and Mental Health and smoking and obesity. Dari joining us is fox 5 medical contributor dr. Devi. Good to have you here. This is very upsetting. New york is a first world city. You would think every neighborhood in new york city should be up to the standards. I agree with you. I mean, new york has some of the best University Hospitals and Healthcare Systems in the country, arguably in the world. To think one of the major boroughs is ranking so low for seven years is disturbing. You can see if you look at the report more carefully that the bronx is doing better than some parts of the country in terms of premature deaths. Not well, but better than some parts of the country. What that means is probably when people are in emergencytype situations, lifethreatening situations like heart attacks and other things, theyre able when you look at chronic conditions, how theyre managing obesity, smoking, lifestyle issues or chronic diseases, theyre doing poorly. I think some of that may be related to jobs and to income or money, wealth, right, that if you dont have money, sometimes steve the link there is clear as day. Exactly. If you just think about healthy foods, the average meet meal at whole foods is better than as mack cdonalds. When you think about just the stress level when youre concerned about jobs and income, you have more stress on a daily basis. Thats going to make your medical conditions, generally speaking, worse. I think all the factors tie in. If you have poor health, it makes it harder to have a great job or a good income. If you have a lot of stress related to those issues, that likelihood of being healthy harder. Steve all makes sense. All right. Dari its world sleep day. A Global Initiative aimed at educating everybody about sleep. So, doc, what do we need to know . I know that i could listen to this forever. Steve nobody gets enough. We were just talking about that earlier. There are lifestyle issues, habits. A lot of people tend to drink caffeine in the afternoon, which keeps them up at night. We have devices, cell phones and things we check all the time. Theres two factors there. First the light from the screens interrupt your circadian rhythm. It kind of wakes you up. Reading. If youre reading things related to work or things that steve you get emails. Youre never away from work. Exactly. You never really have that time to decompress. What we were talking about earlier, if you have a spouse or a pet or somebody else next to you, lets say you could sleep or keeping you awake, thats another factor to consider in terms of habits and lifestyle. And then, of course, medical issues, being a doctor, i have to bring that up. People have sleep apnea. If you notice maybe the person doesnt always notice, but the person next to them might notice a lot of snoring or trouble breathing, you might want to have your partner checked for sleep apnea. People can have heartburn. They can wake up with a cough. And sometimes in this season, with the weather changes, allergies. Dari so many reasons not to sleep well. Steve get seven to nine hours. Thank you, doctor. Nice talking to you. Steve all right. Dari this is a good weekend to snuggle. Steve especially sunday. Well go to beautiful spring to hopefully a last bit of winter. Hopefully. April 16th is my final date. All right. Lets talk about today. It felt like spring out there with temperature readings in the 50s. Our high in the park, 57. We hit that at about noontime today. Right now were sitting in the 50s. Its pretty comfortable across the tristate area. Its 53 in central park. And our winds are blustery out of the west. Theyre coming in at 22 miles an hour. Now, areawide across the northeast, were seeing readings in the 50s from new york to williamsport. Were in the 60s to the south like in philadelphia and down towards d. C. Cooler weather off to the north. Theres a weak cold front thats working through the central part of the state which will bring a drop in our numbers tomorrow. Showers are mostly in the form of rain around the tristate area. And there are a couple of isolated snow showers off to the north. If youre going out in the next an umbrella handy. Early evening diners may want an umbrella. Our next focus is on this area of low pressure thats bringing wet weather across the Mississippi Valley like around arkansas and mississippi up towards louisiana excuse me, missouri, and moving over towards the tennessee valley. This will be heading in our direction. Its arrival time is expected sunday. Thats when we expect the bulk of the system to approach the area. Across the northeast, we have cold temperatures on the northern tier, the southern half is seeing milder readings like in atlanta and down towards new orleans. Miami is nice in the 80s. 80 degrees in vegas and 70s in l. A. Tonight well get quiet. Tomorrow well wake up with sunshine. Enjoy it early in the day. Clouds will quickly increase ahead of the system i pointed out to the Mississippi Valley. The moisture should hold off until the overnight hours of saturday night into sunday. Sunday morning, most of us will wake up dry with cloud cover and by midday, thats when we expect it looks like it will start off as snow as it makes it approach into new jersey and new york city. But rain will mix in across the south shore of new jersey and the rainsnow line will be flirting in new york city late in the afternoon. By this time on sunday, thats when well see the steadiest snowfall coming in. It will be a wet, heavy snow which could make things very slick on the roadways. At that point, thats when we expect the snow to be piling up across northern new jersey, long island and connecticut. With the rainsnow line working northward, the highest totals will be north and west of the city. Well see a mix sunday night into long island and the south shore of new jersey. Ill keep the snow totals down a bit along the coastal points. There will be higher amounts in the Higher Elevations of new jersey and the Hudson Valley. Not the case tonight. In the 20s and 30s. Tomorrow, expect high numbers a little cooler than today. Mostly in the 40s. Factor in the wind. It will bring a chill. Bundle up tomorrow more so than today. 30 degrees expected on sunday with the rain and snow working in. It should taper off by early monday.
