Greg he avoids the liquid. They have a nice strategy. Okay. Right in their. You are essentially waterproof. A little late. A little week. This is 83rd street and third avenue. This is the scene throughout the city. You almost have to be and acrobats to nominate the sidewalk. By the way, what are we dealing with outside . Here we are. Genuine new york right here in it makes your shoe very wet. Is shoe, quite frankly, so many problems. This was not even good for good well. Rosanna it is good that youve used it for our experiment. Look at it now. Dog stuff in there. Genuine new york snow. After state is pretty, now, not so much. Mike bloomberg has been talking about, maybe he will enter the race for president. Maybe it is up until march. Bernie sanders did people forget that that guy is from brooklyn, originally. Governor christie from jersey. Donald trump, though, kind of downplaying. Raising questions. What about those machines he sells. I would love him to do it, actually. I above the competition. I would love for michael to do with. Here he is. I did not realize they are not friends anymore. You look like your network is about 10 billion. I do not believe this. Somebody came in. Coming up with a better machine than him. I do not even know why. I dont know what other a better machine. Such a competitive world. They have to come up with a machine. I do not know. It is so easy to do. I think that it is very fragile. I like real estate better. Real estate has its downsides too. Also, kind of leading us right out there. Lets go to the videotape. They put him on the front page. Country. He is a serious contender. We have the sense that something huge was happening. History. You solve the daily news. We went on record saying this is going to be big. We are not taking sides here. Iowa and New Hampshire higher, this will make a difference. You know what, they made fun of us. Look at donald trump in the polls. The caucus starts february 21. I think we are in a different time. I think people feel that what he is saying is refreshing. He has no scripts. Greg a lot of that is appealing. Iowa, New Hampshire higher and south carolina. Eightythird and third. All of that stuff out there. How are people doing . Rosanna we will deal with it. You have to have a strategy. Contemplating the whole situation. We saw one person. You really need full attention. You tubing all at once. Go right ahead and check it out. The big news is, the good news is, we can melt some of that snow, slush and ice. The clouds are starting to roll into town. Not quite as sunny as it was earlier. A milder day coming at us here. As for the wind, kind of all over the place. We have seen a few bit of wintry mixes. Heading towards the core of the tristate here and we do not expect much to follow. Tristate region. It will be in and output lead. Here is a look at futurecast. It is pretty much it. The cold front had a little bit more moisture with it. Almost negligible. Tomorrow, it looks like it is drying out for you. Major temperatures are coming back down a little bit. Your highs will be on the slightly warmer side. So far for the month of january, dirty 3. 3 degrees. It has pretty much been a normal month here. As far as precipitation goes, we average for this entire month is 7 inches. Mostly cloudy skies coming at you today. They will be drying out. Lows dropping down between 28 and 36. Thirtyseven on thursday. Little bit warmer over the weekend. Rosanna and greg, over to you. Politics upside down. Steve forbes lasing a very impressive trail. You feel like you have to go through volumes. Lets get rid of all of that. Dinner taxes on a postcard. This helps a lot of appeal. Of course, did not become president. Still a very important speaker and doer in america today. He has a new book out. Oh feeling obamacare. Who could argue with that. Maybe obama care. [laughter] this is a monumental walk right here. You basically have to, you know, up and dc to make this happen. Giving activists tools to go after the mess we have today. Those three big reforms. Getting an honest dollar. Real Interest Rates again did you will see this country bounce back quickly. Getting rid of that whole complex tax system. Do your taxes on land index card, essentially did it is more complicated than ever before. How do you ever prevailed . Around the world, 30 countries with a flat tax. You have several president ial candidates. Including senator cruz and rand paul. I think it is beginning to get traction. Get the idea out there. The irs estimates that we spend just imagine the last 20 years. New medical devices. New cures for diseases. Rosanna my daughter went on obamacare for a couple months. It was kind of a scam. In new york, they say that the doctors are listed okay with obamacare. Did you call those doctors and they will not accept you as a patient. I do not know where she would have to go to find a doctor. Certainly not in her zip code. How easy, it is not going to be easy to get people to perform is that possible . This book wants to turn up the heat on public opinion. On obamacare. We put the patient in charge for the first time in decades. No tax in your savings. No death tax. You should be able to leave the world am less to it by the irs. For somebody like the investors, mitt romney, a big thing about that is a nice thing about simplicity. Keystrokes on a computer. The time that you have to do something constructive. One good thing putin did 15 years ago, he got rid of russias tax code. Most resembled what you have in the book. Some come up with the proposals here and there. Doctor ben carson. Rubio has some good ideas on health care. Here is the way to do it. What about donald trump . Im guessing you would run in how do you feel about him . It is pretty good. He simplifies it. Just have to push him a little more to get a flat tax. What are you going to do for patients . They would not give you a road that looks like it comes out with a dumpster. We have to have patience in charge. They tried to cater to the patient. What about mike bloomberg. Talking about throwing his hat in the race for presidency. Candidacy . He has poohpoohed the idea of running. He said if it was sanders, he would run here at he would take it from there. He knows it is difficult. Dont you feel like it is a different world . Look at what he has done now. It is actually a good sign. The incumbents. They do not see what is coming. It is good to be underestimated. Left and right. Contribution back then. By the way, there is a book signing, i believe. Are you reading excerpts from the book . I will be making some remarks. If you buy two books i will give you a smile. [laughter] he was an amazing businessman. Quite a character to. You never knew what he was going to do. He was having a liaison with liz taylor. You have to be careful. I did a story. I did hot air balloons. I came to new york. Two families still have that . They are back in russia now. Instead of balloons, i used it in politics. [laughter] good stuff. Thank you very much. We will see you at barnes noble on the upper west side. Greece. John travolta. The Olivia Newton john version. Coming to television. They will put this live. I would liquefy it and bathe in it. Curse you, brookside your nefarious plans have succeeded. Nefarious . Are we still talking about chocolate . Brookside. Talk about delicious. Rosanna okay. It is still messy out there. Here we go. Taking it all in. A little confused. She has the boots to handle it. She went right at you. Nice job, by the way. You need a strategy. Listen. A little hairy on the fdr drive. Videos you will only see here on fox5. Greg a baby was born on the app yard drive. A couple was trying to make it to the hospital. They had to pull over. The baby decided it was going to happen right there on the north downside. How cute. A baby boy. The mom and baby were taken to the new york press the tyrian hospital. We have not heard from the parents yet. As soon as we do, we will tell did we see the mom yet . I think that they are all okay. The car is going to be a little messy. Rosanna it is not easy. What these bodies can do. Excuse me, rosanna. Did you see that story . The guy that fathered like 200 kids. He was a donor. Would you stop watching the competition . We grew up with the movie grease. I came to see grease on broadway when i was a kid. The first time i was exposed to certain words. And grease. They cleaned it up for the movie. This production will be on live television. Will somebody forget their lines . A bad dance move. I know. Everyone is just waiting with bated breath. The new live musical. He began by telling me they all feel the pressure. The movie. We know you guys love it here and a lot of guys love it. It is great. There. We are walking a thin line. We are paying tribute. The original. Have been so awesome with supporting the show. Super excited with what were there was some talk that you we wanted the whole entire family to sit down. X. That is controversial. That is what was written back then. Some of the lyrics in the original are pretty rescap. We had to tweak them a little bit to make them appropriate. There will be a studio audience. What are you most worried about going wrong . Probably most worried about getting to my location on time. We are literally and golf carts. You have an exact amount of a commercial break or seem to get to your next location and change are close. Were doing it live. Anything can happen. Nothing went extremely wrong. A notoriously tough schedule. How does the rigor of putting together greece compare with that . This is so different. Were doing something over and over and over again. I do not hang my brain could actually comprehend what is going on. With grease, were doing it over and over again. It is just like second nature. I think you are the third rock cast live. How would this be different from the other show. The audience will be there. They are placing them with us in the scene. Members. To me, that is what live theater is. Anna i will be watching. Thank you so much. I will be watching. I think it will be great. I kind of want something to fall down in the middle of the show. She is really good. It is going to be fun. Are right. J williams. A stellar career. Things took a turn for the worse. Putting it in a tailspin. J williams coming with ingredients like roasted hazelnuts and cocoa, the delicious taste of nutella takes pancakes to a whole new level. Weve got an autobiography were talking about today. Lets talk about jay williams. He had an awesome career as a basketball player with duke university. He was in hot demand in the nba. He ultimately signed with the chicago bulls. Look at that beautiful moment, and he was great with the bulls, right . Got off to a very good start. He was ready for his second year when he made a decision that wasnt so smart in hindsight. Well, he was in a motorcycle accident, and that really set him back. Now, there have been some comebacks since then. Lots of downward times, though, where he became addicted to prescription drugs, painkillers almost died. Twice. Were happy to see, though, that he is back on top. His whole story is in his memoir, jay williams life is not an accident. Welcome to good day new york. Thank you for having me p i appreciate it. The book is fascinating. You can remember, of the accident. Exactly. Right. At the time when you were on the motorcycle, were you drunk . No, no. I was completely sober. I was like, you know, another 21yearold kid just doing things in a brashlike manner. And it was one of those scenarios where i dont think my ego got fed enough. Obviously, you have a lot of free time. What am i going to do with all my free time, and i decided to buy a bike. And, you know, chicago, there was no helmet law, so i was, like, why would i wear a helmet . Just going to go down and visit one of my friends and talk about a web site, and my faint ended that day. You were revving the bike. The bike was in neutral, everything was totally fine. Revved it once, second time was louder than the first, and in the middle of my third rev, i popped a wheelie. I tried to hold on to the bike, and next thing you know i tried to turn at the last second, hit a utility pole going 70 miles per hour. Injuries bad were your injuries . Where do i start . Severed my pelvis 13 inches, pretty much like a child birth, yeah. But none of that physical pain compared at all to the minutial agony that i lived with in the last ten years. Like what was going through your well, one of the things thats difficult about it is my accident happened on such a massive scale that every single day people reminded me of the worst day of my life. Pretty much like something really bad happens, and theyre like sorry. I just asked you for the first question. [laughter] what are you going to do . Its part of the story. And ive learned to be selfdepracating about it now. Okay. So you go through that, and then how to you you talk about in the book that you get addicted to prescription pain kills. Yeah, i did, to oxycontin. I didnt want to live with the day of my life anymore. When youre walking down the street and somebody recognizes you, hey, youre the guy that got in that wreck, right . And youre like, oh, thats how youre going to remember me, okay. So i didnt want to deal with that. And oxycontin for me was a way of numbing that, and i could have a conversation with you and easily forget about it and move on. Because your basketball playing was forever altered from the accident, right . Yeah. I have a crazy scar, 150 staples in my left leg, and its forever going to be that way. Tell us about the addiction. I understand you found yourself with strange people and strange situations, a lot of them you couldnt remember. One time i found myself, you know, waking up in the subway, you know, passed out. You know, you find yourself partying with random, different people that you have no idea who they are, how the heck am i even here . But i had a motorcycle accident, but a lot of people have had accidents in their life, if thats a divorce or losing a loved one, weval had things you pick yourself up and survive and thrive from that. How did you pick yourself up after addiction . You need help. You could have died just by weaning yourself off the pills yourself, right . Yep. How many pills were you taking a day . Anywhere between three and four, and eventually it got to the point where i had my second attempt at suicide. I failed, and i woke up, and i just said, what the heck am i doing. And i was brash, and i stayed in my room for about a week and a half, two weeks, forced myself off it. Gosh, for anybody whos down in the dumps right now, suffering, going through agony, perhaps, take a look at jay. You are thriving. You look amazing. I feel great, you know . Doing eventually. Yeah. Im a sports broadcaster for espn and continuing to get better. The name of the book, life is not an accident, a memoir of life, by jay williams. Powerful stuff. And you can see him tonight are you doing a signing . More importantly, i want to pose for that next photo shoot for the photo club. You guys were on the beach, got a great tan finish. [laughter] thank you so much. You can come back on and do some more stuff. Jay, thank you so much. He lives in the city, you know . Hes around. A cup of coffee, hang out. All right. Ben vereen, also seen perhaps most memorably in roots, one of do you remember that, the whole country stopped and its true. The book by alex haley on network television. You can see him sing and dance and talk about his interesting life at 54 below this week. Ben vereen stopped by good day. Pretty much, the show is my gratitude to my audiences for career. Its like if they didnt turn on right . So they come to my show, theyve allowed me to have this wonderful life. Gratification. When did you start singing and dancing . When i got to the High School Theater of performing arts on 46th street at the time, and now walk of fame. Yes. I was, you know, inducted thank you. Right . Thats the fame high school. So i went there. Thats when i became aware of broadway. And after that my first show, actually, was off broadway [inaudible] and written by Langston Hughes the hat youre wearing, spiritual enforcer. Yes, yes. I just branded this, this hat. Or so. And the idea is to have spiritual enforcement for the off thes and spiritual enforcement for the planet which we need now. We were just talking about that, people becoming desensitized. We need to get them more involved with lo. Beautiful. What do you love most about what you do . That i have the opportunity to do it. I love thank you. Thank you. What is next for you . Whats next for me . Well, after this, i just finished a film with richard gere, time out of mind time out of mind. Out of mind, which is out now. Its on demand. My next project is a thing called from brooklyn to broadway. Its going to be written by Steven Schwartz juan and hopefully a few other friends of mine will add some music to it, and its about the journey. So the show youre going to see you teach a class. Any advice . What advice would you give to anybody who want to be like you, wants a career in the arts . Look, i believe this about the arts, the arts life itself is an art form. We have had a tendency to separate from that from which we are created from, you know . In my bible it says in the beginning god created. It didnt say in the beginning god manufactured. I say that all the time. Meaning that we are all created, aspects of that which created us. We are a creative people. And the art, performing arts is another form of that. And so what i teach these young people is to be in touch with who they really are. Thats beautiful. All right, ben vereen, you ready to sing . Sing . Yes, i will sing. Okay. This is my friend bob on keyboards for us this morning. At last my love has come along my lonely nights are over, life is but a song. At last the sky above is blue. The night i looked at you. And i found a dream i could talk to a dream that i had never known and i found the thrill to press my cheeks to a thrill that i, i have never known. You smiled, and then that spell was cast. You are mine at last. I found the thrill, a dream i could talk to in that dream of thrills a dream that i, i have never known. And, oh, the thrill that i pressed my cheek to the that thrill i had never known. You smiled and then that spell and here we are in heaven, for you are mine at last. No matter what the day brings, ive never known you are mine at last all right. Ben vereen [laughter] wow. [laughter] youre awesome. Ive never heard a dude sing that song, right . Etta james. Etta james, etta james. Well, you can see ben and bob week. Right, thank you. Have a fabulous day. Man sternly where do you think youre going . Mr. Mucus to work, with you. Its taco tuesday. Man youre not coming. I took mucinex to help get rid of my mucusy congestion. Im good all day. [announcer ] mucinex keeps working. Not 4, not 6, but 12 hours. I have to say, yeah, but you see less and less of these delis around town, right . You go there for cold cuts, maybe beef jerky. My essentials. Exactly. Take a look at this, an upgraded, chic delicatessen. A new kind. This is a restaurant called delicatessen, its on prince street downtown. Ive been will a couple of times. Look at you hot spot we have Michael Farrar row, nice to have you here. Thank you very much. So whats the take on delicatessen . You do think its kind of like a sandwich shop, which you have, but 2. 0. Yes. We do International Comfort food. I call it sophisticated comfort food. I like to take risks on food that is close to me that i grew up with that i learned across my travels and refine it. I want to take one more look at your joint there, delicatessen. Your joint. It is so chic and, by the way, its full of models and bottles, you know what i mean . No wonder why greg likes to go there. But the name conotes something else. I like to think we have a reputation when people say im going to dinner at delicatessen, they dont think youre going for a pastrami sandwich. Youre going to show us how to make a, what is this . A macaroni and cheese . Were taking two comfort food classics and putting them together. Its a mac and cheese based on a reuben sandwich. Either never had that ive never had that before. Ive had a reuben. Same thing here. And were transforming that into a grilled cheese. Michael thats so sick guy i love it, i mean n a good way. [laughter] you have impressed and kind of flabbergasted rosanna. Could you cook this for us . This is the mac reuben. Basically, the sauce is upon the tee that fontina, sauerkraut, classic need el. All right. While youre putting this together, the food is good, but the scene is greg cant believe that, one, you allowed him in your restaurant. [laughter] thats true. I got a decent table there as well. Gregs a vip there. Did you go on a day when they did the brunch . I heard that was a lot of fun. Is it one of those places where they stand up on the table and dance . No, no, focus is on the food. Great food and people watching, great corner. But, yeah, they come, theyre okay. So you put the cheese, what kind of cheese did you use . Swiss. Just like a reuben. And then the mac and cheese goes in the center, i brush it with butter and slowly saute it in the pan. You guys. We have to try this. Are you eating dried pasta . You know, i always did that waiting for the spaghetti. Little habit goes back to when i was 4. The ruin p was named after a greg, are you going to have a bite . You see the inside of this . Because it really is ive never be had a sandwich with macaroni and cheese inside. Michael, youre a genius. Take a look at this place oh, my goodness. Very chic, very cool there thats crazy. Wear something nice when you go there. Wear something nice thank you, michael. Thank you very much, guys. Well put the recipe on our web site too. How are people doing with the big, giant puddles outside . By the way, michael was open on saturday until they closed down the transportation. Yeah. We closed at 2 00. You are intrepid, michael. [laughter] but then i guess you had to get your people home.
