Hopefully nobody from iowa is watching. Something else, 30 years ago today rosanna and i both remember, january 28th, 1986 when the Space Shuttle challenger exploded 73 seconds into it us mission. All seven astronauts on board were lost. The whole country was shocked. Velocity, 2900 feet per second. Downrange this is time when people and every station would probably preempt whatever programing was on to watch this going on. Soap operas, for sure and cnn. People were going about their lives at that point. It wasnt such a big deal when the Space Shuttle launched. It really wasnt. But it was a big deal when it exploded. We had become as customed to Space Shuttle launches. So had management and nasa officials. They investigated what went wrong. Goodness gracious, engineers were warning night before, if we launch tomorrow because of cold weather and effect of orings we could have catastrophic failure. They blew off advice, recommendations of engineers. One guy, famous quote from that era, rosanna, i believe it was an official, a top official in the program told an engineer, i need to you take off your engineering hat and put on your management hat. Oh, boy. Politics played a big role in this. You know, they have scrubbed plenty of times where they scrubbed a launch. Pressure. And down. We want to show you can reuse the vehicle with frequency. Seven astronauts were lost. There was a lot of attention, i remember, rosanna, sunday before there was major story about christa mcauliffe, the teacher from new hampshire. Right. There was basically a sweepstakes. Hey, you dont have to be scientist. You dont have to be a pilot. This is open to anybody. We want to take a teacher to outer space. Applicants. Gave hope to any of us who thinking maybe we would like to no. She was that person. Very First Mission that had basically an ordinary civilian, space. By the way there was another astronaut, all seven lost, but this area you may see a playground or two named after ronald mcnair. There he is front row on righthand side. Space. On previous one, rosanna he was played saxophone in orbit. Mit, phd. His father lived in harlem at the time. This was such a shock. I know who was great, under very difficult circumstances, ronald reagan. The president. That night he addressed the nation. The crew of the Space Shuttle challenger honored for the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them this morning. As they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surely bonds of earth to touch the face of god. Thank you. Beautiful thought. So, and the Space Shuttle program came back and they built the International Space station and guess who is up there right now . Our friend your cousin, right . Kinda. Scott kelly. Kind of distant cousin. Scott kelly has been on the he comes back early march. Been up there for one year. We need to get him on our show. Can you get your kelly connections on . You remember we spoke to him from outer space. Here he is with his cosmonaut buddy, talking to greg and rosanna live from outer space. Did a twirl for us. His 2010 brother mark is all over the place these days. We had Mike Massimino on who has been to outer space a few times. He said we neglect space travel is a dangerous business. We just kind of take it for granted because weve been to, you know, the moon. They make it look easy but it is very dangerous. All right. Meantime we know somebody who is over the moon today, mike woods because it is his birthday. Happy birthday, pal. At least you said over the moon not over the hill. Welcome to the other side. Exactly. Midlife crisis right around the corner im sure. Good morning to you. Actually not a bad looking day. Im not only one with birthday, kelly washington happy 50th birthday to you as well as ron and theresa out there in connecticut. We all shared a birthday. Its a great one. Sunny skies coming to you. High temp up to 40 degrees today. Were increasing clouds tonight. Might see a little morning snow shower out there tomorrow. It should not be a big deal. A little snow mixed with some rain. That is it. Right now youre temps are start to climb a little bit. 32 in central park. 34 degrees in islip. We have icy and slushy spots. That is still probably a problem another hour or so. We should see above freezing temps. Winds not that big of a deal. Kind of on the light an variable side. We have variable sky. A lot of sunshine. There is the cold front in the northwest. Coming in with this area of low pressure. From canada. It will not knock your temps back too. It will have if anything, a few quick little snow showers mixed with a little rain. That would be about it. We dont have too much expected there. Is not enough moisture or lift to certainly produce anything heavy like we saw this weekend. I dont see that happening for a long time. Anyhow we have got skies clearing out later friday into saturday. Those are looking pretty good for us here. Our temps will get a chance to many up as which head through the weekend. But today it is a lot of sunshine out there, especially this afternoon. Normal high temp for today is 38 degrees. Well head to the lower 40s here. That should be about it. Increase in clouds later tonight. Lows between 22 and 30 degrees. There could be a few spotty snow showers mixed with rain. Then we go to high of 40 degrees later tomorrow. 41 on saturday. 47 on sunday. Up close to 50 next week. We should hit 50 next week. Through at the same time. Rosanna, and greg, over to you. Mike, thank you very much. You know what made us happy, rosanna . Bring as hit smile to our face, hit show curb your enthusiasm on hbo. Larry david put it together. What was that about . Who is first person to the Birthday Party . I come downstairs. My grand entrance. We come in the front. Everybody loving us. Larry is on my coattails the whole time. He walks on stage with me. Hey. Ive been here a long time. No one comes to a party this early, man. When youre a kid you have to be the first one there. When youre a kid you do. Party hat on. Right. Larry was complaining you were late. He was complaining i was late for my own party. I was not late for my own party. Black people come in we make entrances into our party. Thats what black folks do it is blackwhite thing. No, it is not. Larry said, jews leave early. See you later. Really, larry. Is that what happens . You guys leave early, really. More of this, see j. B. Smooth tonight, tomorrow night, saturday at carolines. Carolines. Two big shows tonight, two big shows tomorrow, two big shows saturday. We love caroline. Im not sure. Because they go pretty fast. Man if you want to see that amazing show tonight, tomorrow, or saturday, you get them now. So did you figure out, i know some comedians like to wing it. Where do you stand in that, do you like to go with an outline . The. Not from j. B. Smooth if i did not wing it. Always a portion of my show that is winged. I entertain my sell also. We have a great time. What they see, what they love about me so much, i wing it all the time. Winging it is being in the moment and i dont wing it the same for every audience. They have their individual time with j. B. Smoove. You punch away profanity perfectly. I learned a lot of new words from you. Thank you so much. To. Run. J. B. , go back where did you mount vernon, mount vernon new york. Right in our backyard. Right in our backyard. First time on stage . Uptown comedy club in harlem as a matter of fact. Tough crowd. Amazing crowd. You know, something new for me. Im still friend with tall my guys i started out with. Thats nice. I remember first time tracy morgan got on stage. I remember a lot of times they got on stage. Were all friend. Saw tracy at the knick game. Is tracy on your four courses . Put him on the spot at game. Sat there. Watched the game. Brander done marshall. Tracy morgan. Saw pictures with brandon. Im busy, j. B. Im happy youre okay. He wanted to sit at table. He want to sit at the table with clyde. He wants chris to come back. Four courses, this is video. Basically its a four course dinner with j. B. Smoove. It is amazing. I invite my good friend out. We talk an kick it like normal people sit down with a meal. Everybody is part of the conversation. Are you drinking . We are having some drinks and wine. So sometimes it gets a little weird sometimes but it is just like being with friends. So i heard on the premier episode you had chris rock on . Chris was so amazing this is all preoscars but didnt ask him because it didnt happen yet. Still chris rock. Very smart. Which is why he is perfect person to host the oscars and in going on. Are you going to the oscars . No, i never been to the oscars my whole life. He never been invited to oscars. Been invited to the emmys and Golden Globes but its all good. Comedy awards, are there comedy awards . There are comedy awards. Is my world. J. About, a little bit of conversation with you and chris rock. There is still debate he will show up. I drive a truck because everybody in my family drives trucks. Long haul, short haul. See when you drive a truck you load something, no one cares. They just, as long as you get it happens in the middle. So everybody in my family, my family traditionally just doesnt like white people. [laughter] so were always have problem with you know white people. Right. How do you not deal with white man . You have a job only dialing with the white man in the morning and at end of the day, you know what i mean . Chris really feel that way . He is so, he is an amazing comic. Is that honesty or not honesty . He has a way of taking making it funny but still being chris rock. He is not changing. He has been this guy forever. He is smartest guy i know. What is he going to do with the oscars . I dont know if that line was for comedy reasons or whether he really meant that. Comedy. Comedy. There is pressure on the man. We want to set this up. Some people are saying he shouldnt host the oscars because so many africanamerican performers were ignored when it came to nominations. Let me tell youing. If you dont have anybody host it, have anybody host it at this time, you do want someone smart, someone able to make light of things, someone able to make it funny, make it relevant, he is, this is the perfect platform. Where is this platform going to arise where it is right in front use . So he is showing up. Why is your voice so high . [inaudible] i think, you know, i always say, you got to start something to end something, you know . Only way to nip this in the bud and get on same playing field, you know, changes already been made in the oscar committee. Already talked about. Making changes. Making big changes. Put people more relevant within, 10 years, you know, you got a bunch of people who are been around for 30 and 40 years, and they dont, they dont understand or cant relate to certain types of movies in certain cultures and certain styles. You dont want to stop creativity ever. J. B. , you know where youre creative on the hoverboard. Rosanna you remember . Such a ball. You and i perform ad ballet that went semiviral. Ride around my culdesac. By the way you have to be careful. They will arrest you in new york city. It is illegal. I heard about that. I heard about that. Here is what you do, put your hoverboard in a cardboard box. You ride around on a cardboard box. That is crazy. Tomorrow night, friday night, saturday night at carolines. Say hello. Were not getting hot dogs, are we . No, no, its not exactly street food, its inspired by street food. So, you know, we kind of traveled all over the world, chris and i, and we ate, five, six times a day sounds good to me. And we took what we ate, and we refined it. We made it for, you know, new york city. Give usen an idea, what is this over here . This is our chicken and waffles. Chicken and waffles. The waffles green. Yeah. Chef jonathan, continue. Go ahead. All right. So we have this, this is a smoked eye goally mustard again, thinking raw meat here. So, and the inspiration is just like, you know, when you get a pretzel off a street cart, it has that nice smoky flavor. Right. So we mixed in the smoked eye goally, and this season goes straight on the pretzel. When you guys were touring the world, were you drunk when you came up with some of these recipes . This is the craziest thing i ever heard of. [laughter] raw meat on a pretzel. We were having some fun. Even the name vandal kind of like evokes illegal activity. Exactly. Rosanna and i go in there with a spray paint and have a little fun in the bathroom, i mean, thats very much in line with the theme, right . It kind of is, but in street art its a big nono to graffiti artwork, you know . Okay. We found a blank space, we could [laughter] we prefer you didnt. [laughter] but maybe well make an exception for you. So, jonathan, how do you eat how we eat this is put it on the this is sour dough pretzel that is so sick. Sick in a good way. Selling magazines over here. Whatever youre bringing to my house, go sell it somewhere else. Yeah. Go fix the garage out back. That garage looks dilapidated. Lets appreciate this. [laughter] the National Arts school, it is a great New York Institution. Been around for 119 years . 18 years. Across the street . Well, if you belong to the club, we have several keys. [laughter] i want to submit something, you know . All right. Have you heard of Artificial Intelligence, a. I. . It is the next big thing. Maybe not even the next big thing, its already happening all around. Our own Baruch Shemtov has a very special look at Artificial Intelligence and gaming. Take a look at this. It may not look like a scene from ex machina, the but the latest advance could certainly lead us in that direction. Its a Computer System called alpha go that was developed at the googleacquired enterprise deep mind. And with a human executing its moves, this system managed to beat one of the top players of the ancient game go not once, not twice, but five times in a row. Now, if you havent heard of go, its popular in east asia and considered significantly more mastered years ago by an ubmdeveloped ibmdeveloped computer. Every move in chess has, like, 40 different possibilities. Every move in go has 200. So its exponentially more difficult for a computer to beat the worlds best in this game. Mashbls chief correspondent says this development came years sooner than expected. How did they make this happen . Well, its called machine learning, and its a computer that basically has a couple of different neural algorithms that can play against itself to get better and better through trial and error. So its working through all of these millions and millions of expert games and permutations. And the implications go far beyond fun and games. Its not just putting in information and doing lots and lots of search, but actually figuring things out, applying some understanding and anticipation of what might be the right solution. So its really a more multifaceted way of thinking within the computer. Right. Like humans. Just the beginning. Right now its just about the game, but theyre hope long term that this is going to be applied across a spectrum of problems. And he says its only a matter of time before this Technology Helps out with medical diagnoses, Climate Change and Even International diplomacy, so stay tuned as our computers continue to evolve.
