Want to take you straight to a live look over 480. You can see that the snow is flying around. The cameras shaking a little bit because its quite windy outside. We are at 32. The good news is, road temperatures, pretty much everywhere, are well above freezing. So, while this is coating the grass in some areas, it is for the most part not sticking to the roads. Its just making the roads wet. You can see that we do have a persistent fetch of snow coming in from the north and northwest. Snow extending all the way down into dover new philly. In downtown cleveland, we have gotten a little break. Its just flurries. Same thing along the rest of the lake shore in cuyahoga county. But, you go a little bit farther south, parma, brecksville, strongsville, solon, the snow picks up. The steadiest snow is mainly inland but you get out toward our far western counties, seneca, ottawa, sandusky counties, its a little steadier there. Right now and down into medina, same thing. Again the wind is blowing so from time to time, visibility may be reduced but overall this is not causing major issues for us, because its not coating the roads. Just reducing our visibility. So, take it slow. You can see even down to the south, we have some snow showers taking place. So, when is all of this going to wind down and what on earth can we expect for the weekend . Because wasnt it almost 70 s last weekend . I think so. We will look at the forecast for the weekend coming up in just a few minutes. But, we want to take you to a live look at the roads now. Our own Denise Zarella is live in the cleveland 19 storm chaser. Denise, how are things looking where you are and where are you guys now . Reporter well, samantha, you told us to head south. Heading toward medina. Thats exactly where we are right now. We are on 71 southbound. Just outside of medina right now and boy, were you right, as we headed into this area, the snow we saw a lot of snowplow trucks. The good newses, the road surfaces are not too bad. They must have done a good job of salting them because they are just mainly wet. I also noticed on our car temperature gauge we are keeping a close eye on, its 30 now. We have lost two degrees since we left cleveland. That is a little worrysome because of obviously the road surfaces but right now, again, they are mainly wet heading into the medina area. They have gotten a lot of snow us. So, we are just all bracing for whats ahead. I will be in the ford firstalert storm chaser coming up with live reports on cleveland 19 starting at 4 00. Back to our breaking news now this afternoon. Laura yeah, as we told you at the top of the newscast, lorain city schools are on a suspect on the loose. Danni carlson is live with the breaking details. Reporter we are at the police department, expecting a press conference to start within the next few minutes. What we know so far is lorain city schools are still on lockdown after several students reported a suspect with a mask coming up to them. We were told it happened while they were waiting at a bus stop. Before we got here to the police department, we were at the horizon science academy, a Public Charter School within the district. They said one of their students was approached by this suspect. We do know that the School District is still on lockdown. Officials are telling parents that the schools, with their security measures, are the safest place that they can be at this point and they will keep us updated. Now as i am talking we are seeing some people start to come into the room. So again we are expecting a press conference from lorain city police within the next few minutes. Our other breaking story, democratic president ial candidate Bernie Sanders is in northeast ohio for a rally in berea. Paul or orlousky was there all morning at Baldwin Wallace. Reporter it is all over including the shouting here at Baldwin Wallace college. Bernie got a rousing welcome, not unexpected given that he was talking to a College Crowd which is really in his wheelhouse. He had a lot of themes. Certainly all of them liberal. He got a great cheer, one of the things that obviously got a huge reception was his call for Free Public College education for anyone who wants them. In his view, people who want to better themselves shouldnt be punished with debt. He was critical of hillary and the wealth and power of the Walton Family of walmart three times because of what they pay their workers. Some need public assistance. His theme was the wealthiest controlling elections therefore the direction of the country. He suggests the government doesnt care about average people. A great country is judged not by how many millionaires and billionaires it has, but on how it treats the weakest and most vulnerable among us. [cheers and applause] reporter sanders wants a 15 minimum wage. He wants marijuana federally decriminalized. He says that 4 million individual contributions have been made to his campaign, an average of only 27. He does not accept pac money. He said the country belongs to all of us, not just the wealthy few. And that summed up the entire theme here today. Of course it was nearly an hourlong talk. 4 00, 5 00 and 6 00. Laura we can take you there now where police are just beginning to talk about the suspect on the loose in lorain. Fled the area westbound on west 8th street. Approximately a little over an hour later in the area of overland and west 8th, a male described similarly as the male in the first incident, approached a juvenile. Exposed himself and then followed this juvenile up into a front yard. The juvenile fled and contacted her mother who then contacted the police. A third incident happened at 7 46 in the area of west 18th and oakdale avenue. A male came up behind a juvenile who was walking to school and grabbed her in the same manner as the first juvenile. The suspect is described as a 30s, 510 to 6 tall wearing a black jacket with a hood, dark jeans, dark shoes, dark gloves and possibly some type of mask or something something covering his face. Our officers responded to the area. We stopped several males that matched that description. However, we do not have a suspect in custody or an idea who this suspect is. We immediately contacted the schools and ill let the superintendent explain their status at the schools. Right now we are looking for any information anybody would have related to this suspect. Please call us at the city of Lorain Police department. 2042100. Or you can use tip411. Or, if you see an officer out on the street and you have information, please stop him and inform him of what information you may have. So with that, ill turn it over to the superintendent if he has any comments. Thank you very much. Lockdown which is an opportunity to make sure our students are safe. We have a great plan in place. I want to applaud our students who were involved. They acted very quickly and appropriately. Did the right thing and sought adult help. And i want to praise our safety and security forces. I think they were fantastic. I think, but above all, i was incredibly impressed with the Lorain Police department. They reacted immediately. Very thoroughly. So certainly following that now, these details, all the description that they are giving of that man, very important and they want to be they want everyone to be on the lookout for that suspect. Brian and just to recap real quickly, Lorain Police say there were three incidents in the city where a male at one point exposed himself to at least one person and on another occasion grabbed a female, a young girl who was able to run away. Went to their parents. They called the police. Schools in lorain were then put on lockdown and thats where we are now. We, of course, will update the story as it moves on this afternoon. Laura the superintendent says its a face one lockdown. The students are safe and of course we will be following it throughout the rest of the afternoon. All right. An elderly akron man caught last may after 56 years on the run will have a parole Board Hearing today. Frank freshwaters escaped from a work camp in 1959 where he was serving time for Involuntary Manslaughter in a fatal car crash, then violating that probation. A coldcase unit caught him in melbourne, florida where he had been living under another name. Freshwaters also never paid the courtordered restitution to the victims family. The Summit County Prosecutors Office opposes his release. And Twinsburg Police closed i480 east just past route 91 for a bigrig truck accident. It happened just after 8 00 a. M. The driver lost control and flipped the truck on its side he was trapped inside for an hour and a half. Police directed traffic off the highway at route 91. One lane opened about an hour ago, but it is still slow going out there. Well, a man is going into walgreens across the state stealing rogaine. But since hes bald, hes not using it for himself. That story coming up on cleveland 19 news. Laura and a nurse shows up to work drunk. And helps out in a surgery. Laura a nurse at a v. A. Hospital in pennsylvania is accused of showing up drunk to help with a surgery. Police say theres video of nurse Richard Pierre stumbling through the parking lot before he headed inside and helped with an emergency appendectomy. He told police he had four or five beers while playing slots a the a casino and had just gotten home when he got paged to come to the hospital. He was responsible for preparing the patient and monitoring vitals during the surgery. A coworker reported him. Brian well, they are calling him the rogaine robber. We are talking about a bald guy hitting Walgreens Stores from cleveland. But police dont think hes personally using the product. We arent too sure. We are trying to look into that. But our feelings is that hes trying to resell this either on craigslist, ebay, maybe some brian hes been caught on store surveillance video. Usually puts the items items in his bag, then puts them in clothing and leaves the boxes in another aisle. Retail is about 50. He could just be purchasing this online for much less. Severe Winter Weather is causing a number of delays and cancellations in and out of major airport hubs all across the country. United and southwest have already canceled or delayed hundreds of flights and travelers are being advised to call their airlines. Many of them are temporarily dropping those fees because of the bad weather. Now a local doctor is weighing in on the issue with shanice laura people from the carolinas to new york are cleaning up and checking out the damage after a fastmoving storm raced up the coast. Brian thats right. At least eight people have died so far. We have the story from queens, new york. Reporter powerful winds toppled a massive tree in long island and flipped over a semi truck on new yorks George Washington bridge as severe storms swept through the area overnight. In the bronx, broken power lines sparked outside an abandoned Apartment Building that collapsed during the storm. The wicked weather also caused problems on the water. In queens, the Coast Guard Air lifted seven crew members from a fishing boat that ran aground in rough seas. The air rescue was necessary after a Coast Guard Boat flipped vessel. The fivemember coast guard crew was able to swim to shore. There are no injuries reported from either crew. In the south, the storm system triggered deadly tornadoes. Waverly virginia was hit hard. At least three people were killed there, including a twoyearold boy. Neighbor Vincent Donald was home when the storm came through. A force of wind come, spinning, phew lifted the roof off. You know . I dont know. But, i survived. Reporter at least three tornadoes were reported in north carolina. Home owners, farmers and businesses are all now assessing damage. Samantha all right. Time now, 12 20. Of course that same system brought us rain showers yesterday. But we have transitioned from rain over to snow and those temperatures, well, they are very chilly. Yesterday we hit a high of 49 in cleveland. Of course, it took us forever but we did make it eventually. Today, of course, a lot colder. We are right around that 30degree mark. Temperatures expected to stay below freezing throughout the afternoon. But, its been so mild, speaking in a general sensory sently, at least general sense recently, at least, that temperatures are well above freezing. Thats why we arent seeing a ton of stickage. Maybe porches and decks but those surfaces have been pretty warm as well. You can see the snow continues to come down but again, its a good kind of snow. Its not sticking to the roads. But it is pretty. Its a wet snow coming down out there. Pretty much everyone is seeing at least flurries. You get down to dover new philly, it starts to lighten up now. But i expect that this will gradually drift down toward the south and east. So, lets take you through futureview. I want to help you plan your afternoon. As you pick your kids up later today in the car line about 3 00, we will probably have some but slowly through the afternoon, 4 00, 5 00, we start to dry out from west to east. So, by 6 00, my friends out in sandusky, erie, ottawa counties out west, we should be mainly dry. Even on the west side of cleveland. Snow should mainly be confined to our inland areas and then out in the primary snow belt. And thats where the snow will continue through the early evening hours. So, for your evening commute, if you are out to the east, a chance you could still be seeing some snow showers. Same thing to the south. But out to the west, we should be good to go for that evening drive home. Once the system snow moves out, the lakeeffect taking over tonight will see additional snow showers. But the coverage will not be quite as widespread as what we have been seeing throughout the day. So, you wake up tomorrow morning into the afternoon, a few spotty snow showers out there. But by the afternoon tomorrow, we should be good to go. Maybe even a little sun breaking out tomorrow afternoon. So, if its going to keep snowing through the afternoon, much snow are we going to see . And again, this is mainly for your grassy, your elevated surfaces, about one to three inches for most of us, looking like most of us will probably be on the low end of that. But the totals might get a little bit higher as you get out into the snowbelt. Cuyahoga county, lake, geauga, trumbull and ashtabula counties all under a Winter Weather advisory right now. We could see up to three, maybe even six inches if we can get the lake to enhance things a little bit later tonight. So, todays the snowy day, guys. Tomorrow, by the afternoon, we should be done with all of it good. We will see a little warming trend. It will be windy and then late sunday, a chance for showers.
