We are told a white toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed right down here on jackson street when it hit a green mini van, after hitting the green mini van you can tell it actually hit the mini van so hard the car door was ripped off, that white toyota then jumped the curb and hit a group of people standing on the sidewalk. Chief inspector picked up what happened from there in a News Conference minutes ago. The white vehicle disregarded the stop sign right here. The van struck the car and you could see the door of the white car is stuck on the front of that mini van, the car slid out of control and was a family on the southeast corner of 21 and jackson and the whole family was struck. The twoyearold and the husband, the 36yearold asian male have head and facial injuries and unfortunately the female, the wife and the mother of the child was pronounced at 8 47. A lot of people were clustered up. Everybody was on their phones calling 911. And two kids were crying, of course they were i mean if you saw your mom lying on the ground bleeding you would be too. Reporter now the white toyota we are told them took off and the driver ditched the car a couple blocks away on the 2000 block of snyder, 911 calls helped lead police to their suspect. We are told he is looking at a whole host of charges including vehicular homicide and police tell us that the suspect that has been arrested is not a stranger to police, that he does have a criminal background.
