Well as we mention the pope francis ended his journey here in philadelphia yesterday and tonight mayor Michael Nutter is calling the visit a big success. But some Business Owners had a different story for action News Reporter david henry. Hes live at the Philadelphia City hall. David. Reporter yeah, hi, sharrie. Mayor Michael Nutter has declared the popes visit over the weekend a tremendous success and by most measures it was but it appears that far fewer people than expected attended and businesses have been grumbling that the heavy security measures have kept people away. It wasnt about how many people are going to come, it was about the success of the events. The event itself was successful. Reporter those who did make it through security after hours waiting in line by all accounts had a tremendous experience. Many never made it in. The crowd appeared to be much smaller than the one to one and a half million the city predicted. City residents fled town and many from the suburbs decided to skip it blaming the tight security restrictions. But the mayor blamed the media. I think the reporting on any number of aspects of this was detrimental to the mindset of many philadelphians and others. I think that in some instances you all scared the bleep . Reporter Public Officials set the tone warning people they would walk long distances and new jersey officials all but urging people to stay away. Those were not our finest moments in all of this and that is certainly the governments overall responsibility. We did less business than a normal weekend. Reporter it appears most of the pilgrims brought their own food. We ate what we had with us. Something new, something cool, you know, this is something that will go down in history and the pope chose here to come see everyone so it was a really neat experience. Reporter now, to be sure a lot of people had a great time over the weekend and one thing we have heard above all else is praise for the Philadelphia Police department and its officers who many described as courteous, cordial and very helpful over the weekend. Tonight in health check after a successful papal weekend the medical tents are down and volunteers are getting back to their day jobs. Overall the American Red Cross says things went well over the weekend and Health Reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us from the big board with more on that. Hi, ali. Hi, guys. There were 10 medical tents set up around the city. We now know about 400 people were seen at those medical tents for everything from bandaids for scrapes to more serious problems. There were nearly 130 people transported from the events to local hospitals for care throughout the weekend. Now, of course many agencies were working together, the American Red Cross had about 600 volunteers this weekend, about 100 were nurses. Other medical staff included the fire department, ems and paramedics, many volunteered their time and many say the weekend was a success and it was also good training in case there is ever a disaster. In other news today, theres more evidence that a genetic test can help some Breast Cancer patients safely make the decision to skip chemotherapy. The test called onco type dx looks at the genetics of a tumor and determines the risk for recurrence. A new study out shows that out of the women who had a low risk or skipped chemo less than 1 percent had a recurrence of Breast Cancer. Also today, we have some new advice on treating kids with concussions. Now, weve all heard rest is best and kids should rest both their body and their mind meaning many are told to avoid Television Digital devices an lot of schoolwork. But studies have now shown too much mental rest can lead to prolonged symptoms. Experts now say allow kids to use their devices and watch tv but in small doses. If they get a headache or other symptoms, then back off. You give them an exposure that doesnt worsen their symptoms. And i think that its much more beneficial to do that than to allow them to be completely shut off from these activities. The doctor also says a few days off school can be helpful but keeping kids home for a prolonged period of time isnt good for their recovery. So he says that a slow progression of mental activities is whats best. As for physical, kids should not return to sports until they are fully recovered and cleared by their healthcare provider. Sharrie and rick, back over to you. Okay. Thanks, ali. The philadelphia 76ers of course are getting ready for a new season and they are getting fans pumped with a new message. Passes pas time now for the accuweather forecast. Meteorologist cecily tynan at the big board now. We were so busy with the pope coverage i know i didnt personally get to see this beautiful image. You were in philadelphia anyhow last night and we had clouds so we didnt get to see it but this is what steve from berlin, new jersey, saw last night, the supermoon eclipse, also known as the super blood moon. Thanks to the red glow of it and fortunately parts of south jersey, delaware, the clouds broke up enough also parts of the northwest suburbs that you did get a glimpse of it because it doesnt happen again for 18 years. Temperatures right now definitely a lot warmer, a lot humid than over the weekend when it was pretty comfortable. 81 degrees in philadelphia, the same in millville and wilmington. 81 also in allentown, popular number. Trenton 79 and cape may 76 degrees. We didnt want the rain over papal weekend but we need it. Only two of the last 48 days weve had more than a tenth of an inch of rain. One was back on august 20th and we didnt really get much,. 13. We did get a soaking september 10th in philadelphia close to 5inches of rain and this week we have two opportunities for heavy rain. Satellite6 along with action radar showing right now weve got a mix of clouds and sunshine, a few sprinkles out there but if you look to the south you can see some of this tropical moisture moving in from the south and also from the east and this is what well be dealing with late in the day tomorrow. Future tracker showing around 3 oclock, lots of clouds with some spotty showers breaking out, really the heavier, steadier rain will be arriving tuesday night by 11 oclock you can see this real soaking rain across the northwest suburbs and that will continue to push to the east in the overnight hours and linger into the morning on wednesday. So future tracker showing that were looking at a good one to 2 inches of rain. Areas close to the poconos could get close to 3inches of rain. Again, tuesday night into wednesday and then for the weekend, im tracking this. Its tropical depression number 11 likely to become Tropical Storm joaquin and this likely will be impacting the weather over the weekend. The latest computer models show that we could be dealing with a Tropical Storm just off coast on saturday. If this happens, we would have some heavy rain, some coastal flooding and beach erosion and some high winds. Ill keep you posted. Were five days out. That track could change. So, the five day at 5 00 showing tomorrow humid with afternoon showers developing, maybe a stray thunderstorm. 83 degrees. Heavy rain tuesday night into wednesday morning. Then windy. 74 degrees the. Thursday and friday its cool, its unsettled with some showers and saturday watching the possibility of a coastal storm and also cool, 66 degrees so not the best five day forecast. Ill keep you posted coming up in the sevenday forecast, guys. Thank you cecily. Much more still to come. Workers are also disassembling the stage and the risers. Septa says fewer people rode regional rails this weekend than expected but there were still a lot of people. On saturday more than 28,000 people took septa to get to the events on the parkway and on sunday, 34,000 people rode the trains. But wait times both days averaged about an hour and because hundreds of charter buses were parked at the Sports Complex and septa says tens of thousands of people rode the broad street line as well. All right. So one more time lets find out which roads are reopened and which ones are still closed on a monday evening. Yeah, matt pelman in the action News Traffic Center with the update. Since you guys opened up that mass transit can of worms, lets stay on that front right now. Still seeing that dee he tours on some of the septa bus routes because of the ongoing closure of the ben franklin parkway and some of the adjacent streets. Hopefully they lift those closures soon. The regional rails still running on a saturday schedule today and thats been impacting us because it means the trains dont run as frequently so less trains means more crowded trains and in some cases we have seen minor delays. Patco still on a special schedule and njts access link doesnt resume service until the morning. So thats mass transit. As we said the parkway is still closed but overall volume on the highways is pretty light this afternoon. Were watching a crash on the main line along 30 lancaster avenue at wynnewood road and on the 30 bypass in Chester County its been a very slow go westbound this afternoon. Heres Storm Tracker6 live double scan radar. Its dry for the most part but we are track something spotty activity so well go he in a little tighter on street level with Storm Tracker and along that 95 corridor, just to the north of i95 north of gibbstown were dealing with the spotty showers, same thing along route one close to media, also along route 100 close to areas in malvern and just to the west of norristown, so expect the spotty activity to continue. This is just the beginning because were tracking two rounds of rain on the way this week. The high in philadelphia 10 degrees above average. Climbed up to 83 today. Its currently 81 in the city, 70 in the poconos, 81 in allentown, 75 degrees along the coast in sea isle city. A few features that we are tracking for you. Theres a cold front off across the west that will continue to work its way eastward, an area of low pressure, some tropical moisture that will stream northward and also a depression, tropical depression number 11 out along the atlantic. Well talk about this soggy setup on the way this week. Were tracking that cold front that will slowly work its way eastward and as it does so, its going to interact with this gulf low that will ride northward as we get into tomorrow night and into wednesday. Thats the first feature that were tracking. And then as we get into friday into saturday, were tracking tropical depression number 11. That will more than likely turn into a Tropical Storm. If so, it would be named joaquin. This is the moisture that were tracking as we get into friday and saturday. And how this area of low pressure interacts with this front will determine the amount of precipitation we see later on in the week. So future tracker6 showing you 2 00 p. M. Tomorrow make sure you have those umbrellas close to you because some spotty activity will be around but the heaviest and the steadiest moves in as we get into tomorrow night. You could see 11 00 p. M. On future tracker heavy amounts of rain moving into the poconos on south and westward into lancaster. So, as far as what we are expecting, tomorrow night into wednesday, we could find anywhere from one to 2 inches of rain locally higher amounts. Then turning gusty. Winds gusting from 25 to 40 Miles Per Hour at the coast. It will be much stronger at the coast in comparison to inland locations. Nonetheless everyone will feel those gusts by then. Friday and saturday, thats the other feature that were tracking. It all depends on how that tropical depression which could more than likely turn into a Tropical Storm interacts with this frontal boundary so by then anywhere from one to 3 inches of rainfall. It will be windy and close coastal flooding is a big possibility as well. Heres the exclusive accuweather 7day forecast. Its a humid day tomorrow and at 83 degrees with an afternoon shower around, the heaviest moves in tomorrow night, it continues throughout the day on wednesday. Its going to be a windy day midweek, too and at 74 then much cooler later in the week. Thursday its windy. Its cloudy, mostly dry and cool. High at just 63. On friday, breezy with some rain around and at 63 degrees, it all depends on how we interact with that cold front that moves through and the moisture streaming northward. Were watching the coast on saturday, 66. We dry out on sunday, 68 and 70 on monday with sunshine and clouds. So, its warm tomorrow but get ready for the rain and then the cooldown. Okay.
