Entire coastline in new jersey as well as the bay in new jersey, the bay in delaware and the beaches in delaware so that Tropical Storm warning now mean take precautions because Tropical Storm conditions will occur over the upcoming weekend and these Tropical Storm warnings they extends all the way down the eastern seaboard for this Holiday Weekend, the carolinas, down into parts of northern georgia. So, it is all of the east coast that is taking the effect of the storm. So storm tracker6 live double scan the center of the storm is to the north and east of Charleston South Carolina inland winds sustained 50 miles an hour and will stay inhappened overnight through tomorrow morning. You can see all that tropical rain now extending on the Virginia North carolina border. As we track hermine it is racing to the north and east at 20 miles an hour right now. However, that speed is going to decrease once it moves over the open waters of the atlantic on saturday afternoon and notice the winds start to kick up on saturday morning to 50, saturday afternoon to 60 and then as we get into sunday and monday, that is when it becomes a hurricane once again with winds of 75 miles an hour and then only drifts a little bit to the north and east by wednesday and youre noticing this. It looks like its going out to sea and then its doing one of those left hand hooks here because it gets trapped with High Pressure to the north. That backs it in close to our coastline here during the day on monday and the problem is we have this beast of a high to the north. That high is acting as a wall, a barrier so hermine cannot be kicked out to sea quickly so it slows down, it stalls and that is going to create a tremendous amount of water to pile up at the shore and the shore is going to take the biggest hit. Meteorologist Melissa Magee has much more on what that means for new jersey and delaware. Yeah, adam its almost a tale of two different storms depending on your location because as you mentioned, coastal communities will be hit hard by this system in comparison to inland locates. So the coastal threat heavy rain a moderate concern especially as the storm has the potential of turning into a hurricane late sunday night and into monday. Coastal flooding beach erosion and Power Outages certainly on the high side. As far as the expected wind gusts with that storm sitting off shore and you just get a constant flow of moisture and a persistent on shore wind as well we could find winds gusting anywhere from 60 Miles Per Hour or higher right at the immediate coast. As you press inlands across areas of new jersey 50 to 60 Miles Per Hour winds. On the i95 corridor, if youre east of that region, 50 Miles Per Hour wind gusts but north and west for the poconos and the Lehigh Valley gusts anywhere from 40 Miles Per Hour or lower across the region. The time line with this system has changed as well. Saturday morning very low concerns at the shore tomorrow but as we get into the afternoon hours a bit of a moderate concern. The winds will start to increase but sunday into monday for the actual holiday and when this storm is more than likely going to strengthen into a hurricane certainly on the high side and by tuesday, this storm will essentially sit and spin and rain itself out as it pulls away. So as i mentioned a bit of a tale of two storms. The take away points with this system late saturday right through monday, minimal rain inland. No big impacts along the i95 corridor areas to the north and west. The shore however gets hammered and low lying evacuations certainly a possibility as well. Coming up im going have the very latest on the storm on its track and on the intensity. Those details coming up in the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. Rick. Melissa thank you. Our coverage continues tonight with new jersey correspondent Nora Muchanic. Shes live in ship bottom ocean county with more on preparations under way at the jersey shore. Nora. You can tell by the traffic in surf city that there threat of rip tides wind and rain is not keeping people away. There will be a bit of rain and a bit of wind and everybody here is pretty hearty and pretty excited about the last weekend. Reporter beach erosion is a big concern. The most vulnerable point on Long Beach Island may be the southernmost tip in holgate. 200 feet of sand just replenished by the army corps of engineers in july has already washed away. Standing right here nora by tuesday were going to be under water and the waters going to be at least a hundred feet west of this pier. Reporter now that would be terrible of course and theyll be keeping a close eye on the dune and the beaches there and actually all up and down the jersey coast. So, theres no panic, theres no rush. It will be a a busy friday especially for folks trying to get to the shore matt, hm. Yeah, there are plenty of them trying to do that. Made in america is making a mess of our commute between center city and the art museum this evening, rick and monica, because the ben franklin parkway is completely shut down. All drives both directions so here in this shot you can see all the traffic trying to use that one northbound lane on 20th street. A changing forecast thats for sure. Absolutely. Meteorologist Melissa Magee in for cecily with the latest on all our weather. Hi monica and rick. Well be tracking the changes as we go throughout the rest of the night. Earlier today we were underneath a Tropical Storm watch for our coastal communities and right through the delaware beaches and the bay here. Right now this has been updated to a Tropical Storm warning right through the weekend. Power outages are a big concern and this is certainly going to be a storm where we get more moisture more damage at the coast in comparison to inland locations. Heres the very latest with Tropical Storm hermine. Winds right now sustained at 50 Miles Per Hour and you can see all of that moisture from the atlantic pushing on shore and on the northeast side of the storm in the Northeast Quadrant thats where we are picking up some Severe Weather with a tornado watch box posted for the carolinas. This storm system will continue to move to the north and east as we go throughout the rest of tonight. In fact future tracker6 showing you 7 30 in the morning on saturday the moisture still over the carolinas. But as we get into saturday night, you can see the bulk of that moisture or the center of the storm remains off shore and it essentially starts to stall off in the midatlantic coast. The moisture however still is to our south and east at that point. As we get into sunday morning a little bit of moisture moving across areas in new jersey, also into delaware. Were staying try in the city along the i95 corridor sunday morning and also to the north and west. But the brunt of the storm and the worst of the wet weather looks to move in as we get into sunday night as the storm system gets closer and starts to take that hook to the north and west and also it reaches that potential hurricane strength as we get into sunday night and especially into monday. So thats when we pick up the rain here in philadelphia also across coastal sections of new jersey. Very little to our north and west. You can see by monday afternoon, little bit of leftover moisture to our north and west as that storm system continues to sit and spin just off the coast of the midatlantic. Future tracker rainfall also telling another story. Typically when we get a tropical system or the potential of a hurricane in our latitude theres a wide range as far as the moisture we can expect. But with this storm you could see the bulk of it at least for our area anywhere from 2inches in Atlantic City a little bit more than that to about 4inches there in Rehoboth Beach and in philadelphia a little less than a inch. North and west not much precipitation at all across our region. The other part of the story with this storm that we are tracking, future tracker winds showing you saturday at 4 oclock in the afternoon we could see those heavy gusts right along the coast from lakehurst down to wildwood. Small wind amount there in philadelphia and also to the north and west but as we get into saturday morning, still gusting at the coast. This is a prolonged period at least 48 hours of strong and constant winds coming in from our coastal communities and pressing inland so by 11 00 p. M. On sunday, 55 Miles Per Hour wind gusts there in lakehurst and 62 Miles Per Hour wind gusts as we get into late sunday into monday as the storm takes that hook and also stays off shore with the potential of turning into a hurricane. As far as what we can expect its all about location this weekends. In our northwest suburbs not a whole lot of precipitation, some sun and in philadelphia you get that period of rain as we get into sunday. Rain strong winds at the coasts were as we get into saturday night and right through monday. Your five day at 5 00 increasing clouds tomorrow 79. Wind and rain as we get into sunday and monday with improvement coming on tuesday. Weve got more details, guys, coming up at 5 30. All right. Thank you melissa. Well take a quick break. More news when we come right back. Stay with us. Action news continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody, Rick Williams and Monica Malpass. Hello again. All eyes though are on the jersey shore tonight and through the weekend. Youre taking a live look at the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Atlantic City and off cape may. Relatively calm seas on what is today a picture perfect day. But that will change as Tropical Storm hermine roars up the east coast. Thats right. Our team of meteorologists are continuing to track hermines every move tonight. The storm will make the Labor Day Weekend, it will impact the Labor Day Weekend in our area. Trish hartman is standing by in ocean city with the latest from there. But first lets begin with meteorologist Melissa Magee who is live at the action news big board with the latest on let me means track. Melissa isnt yeah, rick and monica and the track of the storm is certainly going to tell the story as far as who sees the most amount of rain and who sees very little across our region so its going to be a tale of two stories. Well show it to you now. Storm tracker6 live double scan radar 3d you can see Tropical Storm hermine winds right now at 50 Miles Per Hour over the carolinas but i do want to zoom in a little tighter with this storm. You can see the lightning strikes, the Severe Weather for areas in the carolinas. In fact we have a picture to share with you. Sky6 live in hd we are outside at Kill Devil Hills North Carolina where you are underneath a tornado watch and even a Tropical Storm warning as this moisture continues to work its way to the north and east. This is a bit of a preview of what we can expect for our coastal communities as we go throughout the rest of our Holiday Weekend. So well track it for you now. Winds right now at 50 Miles Per Hour. Maximum sustained. But this will move over the open waters of the atlantic and essentially stall as we get into saturday night into sunday and you notice what weve talked about sunday into monday, this will strengthen from a Tropical Storm into the potential of a hurricane as we get into monday and then it wants to take that hook to the north and west. The problem with this storm strengthening and intensifying into a potential hurricane is that it sits and spins across our region throws in moisture from the coast and throws in very heavy and strong winds for our coastal communities in comparison to inland locations. Well break down what we can expect with Tropical Storm hermine as we go throughout the rest of our Holiday Weekend and what it means where you live. Those details coming up with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. Rick and monica. Thanks melissa. The coast guard is urging boat owners to move their vessels inland ahead of hermine and if you have a larger craft of course you should move it to a marina where it will be less vulnerable to breaking free of its moorings. Monica everyone is keeping an eye on the forecast but in the meantime everyone is enjoying the beach and the boardwalk. You could see some friends have gathered behind me. Wave hello. There were people who plan to ride out the storm down the shore. Working on getting some sand bags. Obviously our Deck Furniture off the deck, you know, normal things like that. Reporter something you want to worry about on Labor Day Weekend. No. We thought it was going to be manco and manco he pizza and coronas but its a little more serious now. Reporter there are people getting in beach time and getting out. Man when i saw the forecast i said it ruined my whole weekend but you know what, today is a Beautiful Day im enjoying it and tomorrow i spend it with my family. Reporter in ocean city boardwalk businesses are making the most of this picture perfect weather because they know it wont last long. Reporter now, all of the businesses we stopped at today say as of now they will be opened this weekend but they are keeping an eye on the forecast. Ocean city officials are urging residents and visitors to do that as well so everyone can be safe and prepared as the storm comes near. Reporting live in ocean city, Trish Hartman channel6 action news. Rick, monica. Trish, thank you from the jersey shore. Well, our neighbors to the north are also in the path of hermine. Today new york city mayor bill deblasio warned residents to take the storm seriously especially people who have plans to spend the labor day on the beaches of north jersey or long island. The number one concern in terms of safety is rip tides. I wander people to understand this is a very unusual situation according to the National Weather service. We could see some of the most intense rip tides literally in 10 or 15 years. These could be some of the strongest and most dangerous rip tides. Yes, Tropical Storm hermine does have the potential of strengthening into a hurricane once it reaches our latitude and what happens after that is what we will be tracking as we head into our weekends guys. Well show you whats going on with the very latest. Weve got the Tropical Storm warnings for our coastal communities from Seaside Heights new jersey all the way down to cape may and then as you move into the delaware bay there, weve also got those Tropical Storm warnings. Warnings really extends up and down the eastern seaboard as we will be tracking Tropical Storm hermine. This is very latest with the storm. Winds right now maximum sustained at 50 Miles Per Hour. Its about 30 miles to the west, westnorthwest of charleston. This will continue that northeasterly jog as we go throughout the rest of tonight over the carolinas before reemerging just off the midatlantic coast as we get into the start of our Holiday Weekend. Future tracker6 showing you 7 30 in the morning tomorrow clouds and pockets of sunshine. Probably wondering where that storm is. If youre in the city and points to the north and west hardpressed to find a lot of activity by saturday, 7 30 in the morning. Same thing for our coastal communities. As we get into saturday afternoon notice a little bit of moisture creeping into delaware and also into wildwood but still dry for the i95 corridor and points to the north and west. By 8 oclock in the morning, a little bit more moisture as the storm system starts to strengthen and eventually intensify. So, you see the moisture and the rain there in Atlantic City wildwood millville and dover but the worst of the storm and the brunt of the storm moves in as we get into sunday neither. By then future tracker6 really showing you by 11 00 p. M. On sunday the rain is starting to push one of the ward across our region for new jersey and also that i95 corridor but still a tight gradient and a sharp cutoff for our northwest suburbs from the poconos down to lancaster and were still leftover sunday monday morning i should say at 7 oclock in the morning with a couple showers and still lingering moisture as we get into monday afternoon. Future tracker rainfall also showing you the worst of the heavy rain right along the immediate coastline as you press inland along that 95 corridor a little less than an inch here in philadelphia and just about a tenth of an inch for the poconos all the way town to allentown reading and lancaster and thats going to be over the next three days and thats why weve been saying its all about location with this storm system especially as the worst of the storm and the center stays off shore. The shore affects late saturday right through monday. Theres going to be a prolonged wind event 48 hours or more of heavy surf at the coast. Waivers anywhere from nine to 12 feet high. Winds gusting anywhere from 60 Miles Per Hour or higher and again the worst of the storm looks to be sunday night into monday because at that time, sunday night into monday is when it is expected to go from a Tropical Storm to hurricane stent as we get into the start of monday for the actual holiday. High tide is a concern late saturday night right through sunday even into monday and the storm surge could be two to 4 feet above the ground and this is an issue for areas in long island all the way down to jersey delaware and even portions of maryland and virginia. Low level jet just wander to share this with you. As the storm system starts to intensify just off the shore here we tap into some rain which adds to the wind picking up in the lower levels of the atmosphere and thats when we could see at the coast winds gusting up to 60 Miles Per Hour or higher. If theres any update or change in the track of this storm well certainly keep you posted. The accuweather forecast showing you tomorrow sun to increasing clouds. Its a mostly dry day, a high up to 79 degrees. Sunday windy with rain to the south and east a high of 77. The wind continues on monday with some showers lingering at the coast and at 79 for labor day. On tuesday we start to warm up and dry out and wednesday, thursday and friday temperatures back into the 90s. Weve got an advisory coming up at 8 00 and then another official Hurricane Center update at 11 oclock tonight guys. Okay. Thank you so much. Thanks melissa.
