Its about 30,000 feet above the surface of the earth so what this means is that they have some pretty intense downpours. Today marks a very special anniversary that even his doctors thought he would never see. Action News ReporterJeanette Reyes with that story. Reporter chase played for hours during buehler Elementary Schools annual field day today. Field day is today and im really happy. Reporter but this simple act of talking let alone dancing is being described by doctors as nothing short of amazing. His recovery is a miracle. Reporter this time three years ago a similar day filled with fun and games ended with the 10yearold suddenly collapsing. I was playing soccer and and then i was like out. He just sat down and then just kind of laid back and he just like his eyes closed. I heard the words get up and i turn around and chase is laying there unresponsive. Reporter chase was that rushed to the hospital. Doctors first thought he had a seizure. But his parents insisted it was something else. 18 hours later, tests revealed a devastating diagnosis. He suffered a massive stroke on the left side of his brain. At that point we didnt know if he was going to survive or if he did survive if he was going to be able to walk or talk or eat a taco again. Reporter chase was taken to chop where he stayed for over three months and underwent intensive therapy. I was there every week and i would watch movies, play beat dinner and lunch with him. Every week he started getting better. Reporter the 10yearold will need to continue physical therapy to improve mobility. For the most part, hes back to being a kid who enjoys playing outside with his best friends. We know how strong he worked. Reporter now the risk of stroke is about 11 in everyone hundred thousand children per year. One of the problems is that ah adults dont easily spot the symptoms. It happened as a motorist was pulling out of a drive way in the unit block of roosevelt avenue in newport delaware. The incident was pretty infant was pretty banged up and is now in the hospital.
