Afternoon. A Temple University Police Cruiser caught fire after somebody made a very careless mistake. Action News Reporter christie auleto is live at the bp gas station at broad and girard. Christie first things first, was anybody seriously hurt . Reporter well, jim, fortunately there were no reports of any injuries but this could have been a lot worse. This is the gas station pump where witnesses say a Temple University officer drove off with the nozzle still in the tank causing the squad dar to co go up in flames. An action news viewer captures the moment after a Temple University squad car goes up in flames at a gas station at broad and girard. Im thinking this gas station is going to explode. Reporter witnesses say the Temple University cops were filling up before one of them drove off with the nozzle still in the tank. So, he left the nozzle inside the car and then the nozzle fell down and so did the pump. When the pump fell down and all of a sudden i a it was a spark and fire comes out. Reporter his family owns the gas station that is now out of service. Police say the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes but forced those inside the mcdonalds neck ow next door to evacuate. I thought the whole thing was going to blow up. Reporter the Temple University cop car was towed away and now police are investigating. Now, the gas station owner tells me its unclear when the pumps will be operable but the Convenience Store and also the mcdonalds thats also in this parking lot are opened for business. This was the scene friday afternoon after two bodies were discovered inside an suv in philadelphias Fairmount Park. Both people had been shot at close range. Tonight police have identified the victims and say this appears to have been a crime of passion. Live at Police Headquarters is action News Reporter Sarah Bloomquist tonight. Sarah, what are the details . Reporter jim, thats right, police said everything about this crime scene sure makes it look like this was a crime of passion. The victims were in a relationship but both had another romantic partner. Someone knew they were going to be in Fairmount Park very early friday morning and shot them both in the head while they were being intimate in the back seat of an suv. The bodies of 25yearold Shakoor Arline and 32yearold lisa smith were discovered by Fairmount Park workers friday afternoon in the 800 block of lemon hill drive. They were partially clothed and investigators believe the couple was having a sexual encounter when a suspect armed with a gun walked up to smiths toyota suv. It appears that they were in the vehicle in the back seat. Someone walked up on them, opened the back door and reached in and fired several shots into the vehicle. Reporter the gunman fired nine times at close range hitting both victims in the head. Police say the couple met a few years ago where they both used to work and had an on and off relationship. But they say arline had another girlfriend and smith was involved with another man. We know they had a relationship but also they had outside relationships so obviously thats where our investigation is going to start. Because somebody knew that they were in the park at that time and obviously had issue with that. Reporter police have talked to arlines other girlfriend. Now they want to talk to smiths boyfriend but havent been able to find him. Arline lived on the 2800 block of girard not far from lemon hill. People remembered seeing him around and were surprised to learn of his fate. Law a welhe was a well spoke, real polite. Came in every now and again. I never would know Something Like that was going on, you know. It is a crazy way to go. Just out of nowhere. Reporter Police Believe the suspect may have followed the victims to Fairmount Park. They believe they were shot sometime between midnight and 5 00 a. M. Friday morning but the pair was not found until later on friday afternoon. Smith were told levers behind d several children. The special Pennsylvania Senate Committee Investigating the fate of attorney general Kathleen Kane let for the first time in today. At issue whether kane can continue her job without a law license. The path heard from three district attorneys who said that they need an active law license for just about every aspect of their official duties. Kanes law license is on indefinite suspension while she fights criminal charges that include perjury. The committee wants details about her office and how it is currently operating and who is making the decisions. In New Castle County, it was a cold case. Freezing colds. The police have made an arrest in a murder from 30 years ago. Action News Reporter vernon odom has the story. Reporter this man joseph braun was a well known music teacher and tutor who was murdered 30 years ago in the summer of 85. The 54yearold man was bludgeoned to death inside his home here on hearne road. Under arrest now is 50yearold Sandra Hartzag who was arrested days ago in dalton georgia where she awaits extradition. Police had been searching for her for years after getting tips from hartzags late boyfriend relatives that he was involved in the killing. Hes been dead since 97. The Motive Police say was robbery. The linchpin to all of it is the proper investigation in the very beginning. The evidence was corrected and stored for later examination. Reporter braun was grew Marijuana Plants on his deck and they were convinced he was dealing. He kept to himself. He wasnt very civic minded with the drugs and the other things that were happening but were glad to see the crime solved. Reporter this was there first case cracked by New Castle Countys newly created cold case unit. Doggedly tracking down suspects where the trail had long gone cold. Police first got key tips in this case back in 99. When somebody comes forward and gives information about a case we know if we never release that information if theyre giving that you say information we know its a solid lead. One suspect in a deadly Motel Standoff in bucks county is being held on 1 million bail. Jennifer lanning and james miller were arrested saturday in trevose. Only action news was there as miller crawled from a room at the knights inn to surrender. Mill are was that wanted for a parole violation but police didnt know that lanning and her alleged accomplice Lloyd Franklin were also in the room. The pair was wanted for murdering an elderly couple in north carolina. Franklin killed himself during the standoff. And willing is being held on 1 million bail. Miller has also been booked at the bucks county jail. Investigators are working to determine if a fire that damaged four homes in Port Richmond in philadelphia was set on purpose. Firefighters were called to the 2900 block of memphis street at 1 45 this morning. Officials say the fire began in a vacant home and spread to three others. Residents say there have been a number of fires in the neighborhood in recent months. A worker is recovering after falling from a scaffold in University City this afternoon. The incident happened just after 1 oclock. Police have not said how far the man fell or how seriously he was hurt. Leaders in camden are working to come up with ways to revitalize the city. Mayor dana redd met with federal and state officials to discuss camdens designation as a promise zone. In april, camden was one of several cities the president chose to receive federal grants. Several people had to be evacuated this morning because of a trash fire in center city philadelphia. Firefighters were called to the Embassy Apartments near 21st and walnut at 6 oclock this morning. They found a large pile of trash burning in the back of the building. It took firefighters just 15 minutes to get it under control. The cause still under investigation. Philadelphias first elevated park opened to the public today in University City. Chopper 6hd flew over the new sira green. The urban mar park is just under an acre. Its 95 feet above the grounds. It sits on top of the parking garage of cira center south near the 30th street post office. At Rider University military members who are also students placed a wreath near a display of 12,000 american flags on a College Green placed there in honor of those who served for veterans day.
