Should be wrapped up at about 8 oclock this morning. I95 one of the first places you see volume build and thats what were seeing here southbound approaching cottman. Still not a big delay, though. Overall no big jam on i95 or issue if youre coming from langhorne or bensalem. Breaking right now, four people on a south street sidewalk were hit by a car that then caused damage to a business. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is live on the 300 block of south street with the latest on that investigation. Good morning, katherine. Reporter good morning, tam. And police do not believe that this driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They say it just appears that she lost control of the vehicle and you can see the vehicle is still taped off here along the sidewalk on south street. South street is back opened up. This 2001 toyota, though, right into the side of this building. You can see the shattered glass on the sidewalk. The primos was opened at the time but nobody inside the business on the 300 block of south street was hurt but four people, pedestrians, were. I spoke to the masser . And she says the driver is her 21yearold girlfriend and she tells me they had briefly stopped by a nearby hookah lounge. The car was parked on the opposite sifted street. As she pulled out of the parking spot she lost control. The car jolted across the street jumped the curb lit four people who were standing in front of primos and then hit the hoagie shop itself. The plate glass window shattered. We were coming out of a parking spot and then she just lost control. I didnt know anyone got harmed until i actually got out of the car and about two or three men on the side saying they were their legs were broke and stuff like that. Police say three men and one woman in their 20s and early 30s were struck. The four pedestrians had some bruising and broken bones but nothing lifethreatening. All four were taken to jefferson in stable condition. The driver was interviewed and evaluated by police and she was able to go home. A woman is dead after being struck by a hitandrun driver in the summerdale section of the city. Police say it happened just after 11 30 on the northbound lanes of roosevelt boulevard at adams avenue. Police say the woman was in a crosswalk while on her cell phone when the driver ran a red light. Witnesses say the force of the crash cents the woman into the front of the windshield and then launched her 200 feet. Much more coming up in a live report in the next half hour of action news. Now to the latest on sundays mass shooting at a gay nightclub. President obama will travel to orlando on thursday to pay respects to the victims. Now five of the survivors are in grave condition. Officials say the death toll could climb higher than 49. And the fbi says it sees no indication that gunman omar mateen was part of a plot directd from outside the u. S. They say he expressed support for several radical groups including some at odds with each other. The fbi investigated mateen twice in 2013 and 2014 but his name was taken off the terror watch list. Well look at our own work. So far the honest answer is i dont think so. I dont see anything in reviewing our work that our agents should have done different. Customers of the nightclub reported seeing mateen at the bar on a number of occasions. One said mateen was trying to pick up men at the club. A recent west catholic prep graduate is among the dead in orlando. 18yearold akyra murray was fresh off her senior Year Spending time in florida with friends and family after graduating from high school. She was a basketball standout helping west catholic win the city championship. The school says a vigil is planned for this week. Grief counselors will be at the school the rest of the week. It is now 6 05 and hundreds of people gathered at Philadelphia City hall to remember the victims of the orlando massacre. Mayor jim kenney was among those attending last nights vigil. The citys Lgbt Community organized the event described as an outpouring of grief love and solidarity for the victims in orlando. Im angry, im passionate about what happened. Im mad. That could have been me. That could have been my family member. That could have been my sister, my brother. Just so tired of gun violence. Another vigil is planned for tomorrow night in front of the Delaware County courthouse in media. Its organized by a local Unitarian Universalist church. Reporter that suspect, 29yearold omar mateen killed in the gun battle with police was able to legally buy the weapons used in the massacre despite having made two trips to Saudia Arabia and being under fbi surveillance for nearly a year for possible links to terrorism. Reporter the fbi says it never found evidence that mateen was a terrorist and the gun shop owner maintains there were no red flags. An evil person came in here. It is 6 34 and back here were continuing to follow a lot of breaking news a vehicle hit a young victim with so much force it launched her body some 200 feet and then the driver fled that scene. Lets go over to Annie Mcconnell mick live on the scene along the roosevelt boulevard in the summerdale section. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning, tam. You can see right here behind me this is the intersection where this happened, right along this crosswalk that you can see. Now, according to police, the victim was in the crosswalk. She had the light. She was talking on her phone when out of nowhere, according to witnesses, a minivan blew through here and knocked her into the air at least 200 feet. Well, take a look at this video. We are told that this happened around 11 30 last night. Police say again the woman had the green light and was using the crosswalk when the vehicle went through a red light. Now, the pedestrian was on her phone at the time, she was walking. Accident investigators found her belongings scattered all over the roadway. Theyre still working to identify the woman who appears to be about 19 or 20 years old. They say that she was pronounced dead at the scene. Now, witnesses say the force of the crash center her into the front window of the vehicle, then she was thrown into the air. Her body went rolled onto the hood of this vehicle. She hit her head on the windshield. And her body was lifted and traveled about 200 feet in a northern direction after being struck and thats where she landed on adams avenue at the boulevard. Reporter now, witnesses were able to give a lot of information to police. They say at this intersection right here which right now at this time of day is very busy, you can see how people just fly through here, they say that it was here that they believe that that minivan was going at an excessive rate of speed. They also gave a description to police saying it is a white or silver minivan about 10 to 15 years old. They say also that the damage is extensive on that vehicle. It is on the windshield and also on the hood. They are urging that driver to turn themselves in and of course if you have any information, you are urged to contact police. A driver trying to get out of a parking spot jumped the curb striking four people on south street. This happened just before 1 00 a. M. On the 300 block. The vehicle also caused minor damage to a business. The pedestrians were checked out at the hospital for cuts and other injuries to their legs and arms. Police questioned the driver. She was later released. Its 6 37 and the defense continues its closing arguments today in the corruption trial of congressman chaka fattah. His lawyers are arguing that the jury to the jury in the racketeering case that he is being smeared as long time public servant. The prosecution has been trying to make the case that fattah was corrupt paying back back. The jury could get the case as early as tomorrow. Time now for accuweather and our winning streak continues. Late tomorrow night and in through the day on thursday theres the chance of a spotty shower popping in and out of play, maybe a little drizzle at times all because were in that unsettled portion of that next system ahead of an approaching cold front. A septa bus was involved right about here. You see police and emergency workers. Earlier pen to the was panning up ahead and we saw several other vehicles on the shoulder there so eight vehicles involved in major accident on the schuylkill eastbound at girard. Chopper6 headed to the scene right now. All lanes are blocked. What youre seeing now is just some of the traffic trying to get by on the shoulder. But they really have all lanes blocked. Weve seen emergency workers Walking Around on the schuylkill eastbound. For awhile we had a westbound lane blocked as well as people were coming and trying to help with this car that just smashed up against the guardrail. So weve been backed up solid at this point from city avenue to girard. As you can see a major accident on the schuylkill expressway eastbound here and weve got people on the waze app have been talking about this and you can see everybody kind of showing the speeds leading up to this point of about 15 miles an hour at best as we see some backup really extending.
