aims to protect the jersey shore from future storms. but the big story on "action news" is the gun point robberies of two studentses from temple university. both crimes happened early this morning one victim was walking near campus and the other was on school grounds. katherine scott is live at one of the scenes with more. >> reporter: that is right, two temple students were robbed at gun point within hours of each other and neither student was injured. the first armed robbery took place at 15th, about a block away from broad street. the executive director of public safety at temple says that robberies are down but last night's incidents show that there is work to do to make the number lower. >> two students were held up in two different armed robberies last night in north philadelphia. one was on campus and the other nearby, some students say they were not surprised. >> it's a dangerous neighborhood but you know the risks when you select to go to temple. >> i feel safe, there is campus security everywhere. it's just bad luck. >> it's off campus, several blocks from temple's football field, a temple football player got some takeout food and was washing towards his car, the men approached with a gun and took his phone and his teal cadillac, then around 3:00 a.m. a student was robbed at gun point on the 1800 block of north 15th street, two men in red hooded sweatshirt took his keys and red dodge. we were able to catch a lot of video from that and track the vehicle. >> for some the crimes increase the unease since a sex assault was reported near campus last month. >> my parents are concerned and we had the tenant change the locks on the doors. >> since the sex assault there are additionle patrols in the area. they want to remind students that are available that run from late afternoon to early mornings including shuttle service home and walking escorts. >> we know that 18 and 19-year-olds will do what they are going to do and we want to make sure they have the resources out there and that is the patrols to safe guard against this. >> we have an update on the sex assault on carlyle street, this morning police announced they charged 23-year-old shar ead bennett with sex assault and other charges. they brought him to the special victims unit for arrest and as far as these armed robberies are concerned police do not believe they are connected but they hope to release surveillance footage from one later on. >> thank you. the death of a toddler in haddon township, new jersey, remains a mystery. two days after his body was found just a few blocks away from his phone, an autopsy on brandon creato was unable to tell how he died. his father called 911 early tuesday morning and said the boy disappeared from his house and they found him in a wooded area two hours later. we hope to hear more today about a psychiatrist, she was found dead in her home early yesterday morning, a suspect is in custody but the police have not released his name or the name of the victim. officers will update the case this afternoon. president obama just announced a new plan to leave more american troops in afghanistan beyond the end of next year, abc's karen travers has the story from washington. >> it's a significant reversal for president obama. >> this modest but meaningful extension of our presence while sticking to our current narrow missions can make a real difference. >> nearly all the troops were to be home by the end of the 2016, but the president at the recommendation of his top military commanders will leave 150 in place. counter terrorism operations and training and assisting afghan forces, so why the shift in policy? top officials believe that afghan officials were not ready to operate on their own and there has been a surge and taliban attacks and fighting. >> it's still very fragile and some places there is risk of deterioration. >> last month taliban fighters took control of a key city, they fought back with support from u.s. air strikes but one strike was catastrophic, a hospital was hit leaving 22 dead including 12 staffers from doctors without borders. >> the hospital was mistakenly struck, we would never intentionally target a protected medical fashion ilt. >> president obama says this decision is not disappointing, the approach it to make adjustments when necessary and the u.s. commitment to afghanistan will not waiver. karen travers, channel 6 "action news." >> karen, thank you. two police officers are recovering after they were dragged by a car across a parking lot this morning. they tried to remove the suspect from his vehicle at the hamlet shopping center in dover and the man accelerated dragging the officers across the pave many. 28-year-old christopher brewer was arrested after a brief chase and a store employee initially reported brewer for refusing to leave the shopping center and throwing trash out of his vehicle. penndot is making repairs near penn's landing, they found a crack on the chestnut street bridge that leads from front street to columbus boulevard. john rawlins will have more in a live report at 12:30. a $32 million project begins today in atlantic city, the goal is to protect it from the type of flooding that happened during superstorm sandy, workers are rebuilding a sea wall and a walk, both were damaged when the storm hit the coast in 2012. we see plenty of sunshine and sky 6 hd is looking live at the center city skyline, temperatures climbing into the 60s and a bit on the cool side this morning but we are seeing more seasonal conditions and things could get down right wintry this weekend. lets check in with david murphy at the big board. and the accuweather forecast. >> reporter: cold weather is on the way and now it's a seasonal autumnal afternoon, there is fair weather cumulous and not a lot of rain around and a front to the west with an area of low pressure, and that is passing by to the north tomorrow and northern suburbs like the lehigh valley and the poconos. but the rest of us are expected to be dry and right now the counterclockwise flow and high pressure from the south is creating a breeze and the air to the west is fairly cool, even though the air coming from the west is dropping our numbers a bit compared to yesterday. >> lots of sunshine is in control and there was cloud cover in the predawn hours and that melted away and now we have the fair weather stuff around. look for a fairly sunny day, we are cool at 62 degrees and starting out in the low 50s and 40 for a while in allentown and a nice bounce back to 57 and the winds are a bit of a factor again and running in the teens in philadelphia and the wilmington and the poconos and dover, and at times we waffle back and forth to a 17 miles per hour wind, look for it to be bright today and on the cool side. 62 at 3:00 and your high is 65 around 4:00, and as we slip past 4:00 to 5:00, we'll be down to 62 degrees, a light breeze and no rain and not a bad day at the playground, you'll want a jacket on the kids, and we'll take a closer look at the accuweather forecast. with temperatures plunging for the weekend. related to the cold six officers are charged in his death and awaiting trial. oscar pistorius will be released from prison next week, they ruled that pistorius can be moved to house arrest on monday. he served a year of degrees. we commented on the air that i don't think we have seen a number that low outside of the poconos this time last year. but are you back to 57, 69 in reading and 63 in millville and 60 on the coast at this hour. we had clouds overnight, when we went on the air they were just clearing philadelphia, and they are floating to the east and we have the fair weather cumulous stuff not enough to knock out the sun and making for a pretty day. cool and 65 degrees is the high there. down the shore, 66 degrees and mostly sunny skies and cool and in atlantic city, in philadelphia we go for a high of 65, even numbers to the south and a good looking day and not bad if you are dressed appropriately, winds from the west at 17 miles per hour the rest of the way. 53 is the overnight low and a few clouds around and winds dying back a little bit overnight, for the evening commute, probably brought enough for sunglasses on the way home, 4:30, 62 and by 7:00 the sun is long gone and we get down to the 50 degree territory. tomorrow a frontal boupdry to the east and 66 is the high and breezy and on the lookout for high pressure this weekend and we'll bring sun with high instability clouds and temperatures drop into the 50s and lower than that at night, this is the saturday future tracker 6 view and the sunshine is in play all the way on saturday, and tomorrow a sprinkle or two, and the big story is the weekend cool down and highs in the 50s saturday and sunday, and lows get down into the 30s and we could be looking at the season's first frost so here are the chores this weekend, and get the potted plants in and get the hoses stored. open the specificnd let them drain out. as the front rolls through temperatures drop at night and on saturday only back to 59 for a high and cooler than that on sunday and 54 with overnight lows in the 30s and the frost possibility. if you are headed to temple football or eagles football on monday night, bundle up, but we do bounce back monday night. city. the big story on "action news" at 12:30 is breaking news, two men accused in a center city gay bashing case have played guilty while an alleged female accomplice is heading to trial. william phillips and haringan when to court this morning, the alleged accomplish katherine knox will head to trial. they are charged with assaulting a gay couple in center city last year. we'll have much more on "action news" tonight. at penn's landing, the chestnut street overpass is closed after a crack was found in a support pier, chopper 6 hd was over the overpass early this morning, you can see it's
