We have been watching this when that big burst of heavy sleet came through in the 9 00 our. A lot of that has started to melt, and the best way to durham counties, slushy. That is reflecting what we have been missing as we have been driving around the past couple of hours. A number of accidents, but most of them appeared to be in the clearing stages. I was speaking with a gentleman from the d. O. T. Imap crews, he was helping clear when accident on the shoulder of i40. He was telling me that they have just been slammed since he came on, about 5 00 this morning, one after the next. I asked what type of accidents he has seen, and he said just you name it. Overturning. But he said that hopefully things are slowing down a little bit, he is expecting get into the afternoon and asked temperatures warm up. Still slick out here. is making things slick under your tires. You dont want to head out here per hour. Cautious. We are on harrison avenue going about 20 Miles Per Hour right traffic. Thankfully, most drivers seem to be using common sense. Definitely do that if youre afternoon. Definitely take it slow. It is good to hear that there in cary. Yes, poole road was littered with a number of accidents earlier this morning. Like lets check in with Sloane Heffernan was made her way over from knightdale over to poole road. How are things looking now . It looks better than this morning. Reporter bill, it is looking a lot betttt. We are now live at poole road where it intersects new hope road at a red light right now. And, you can see that it is the roads are wet, but we are not hitting any type of slick spots a long poole road. We have just been in knightdale where we saw quite an improvement in the conditions, and, it is good to see. But obviously, when we have a day like today, it can be a huge inconvenience, if you have children especially, logistically, trying to figure things out. It is so nice to see that folks were able to work things out and stay off the roads. Because im sure that it helped reduce the number of accidents that we had out here. And i can already see, just looking around at the cars and driveways, people staying at home today. We did not see any accidents in our travels. We started at around 9 30. Three cars involved in one accident. There were several other accident out there on poole road. It was a typical scene. You have a hill, and had some people having a difficult time getting up that hill. One car would hit another car, then another car would come in contact with those two vehicles. It was quite a mess. But that is history. And we are glad we are moving on. We also had some accidents, but not nearly as many in durham today as we had in the raleigh area. Were hoping for some progress as well in durham. In live drive 5. How are things looking on the durham freeway . Reporter it looks like we have made some progress on the durham freeway. The rain has slowed to a sprinkle here, and what was ice and snow earlier has melted a little bit here on the roadway. As you mentioned, there has been some accidents in durham, not as many obviously as you guys are seeing in wake county. But, the Durham Police department and Sheriffs Office both released numbers earlier this morning. About what kind of accidents they have been working. The Durham PoliceDepartment Says they have worked 26 car accident since midnight. In many of those cases, cars slid off of the roads. They say they had several injuries from those, but none were lifethreatening. As for the durham Sheriffs Office, they had 21 accidents that they works. Three of those involved minor injuries. Again, that is 26 for the Durham Police department, and sheriffs department. As you can see again out here on the durham freeway, on 147, Road Conditions definitely have improved. And then, it will be just patches of rain for the remainder of the afternoon. Seeing a little bit of that over in chapel hill and durham. Not as much in wake county, it is really starting to taper off. Over toward holly springs, heading down 64 toward pittsboro, heading down south, seeing some heavier precipitation around there. Southern pines and pinehurst, a lot of that is freezing rain because our temperatures are just not warm enough for anything else. The southern part of Granville County and all on i85, seeing lingering freezing rain. To the east of roanoke rapids. Here again is the radar picture. We had much more widespread precipitation earlier. But after about 10 00 or so, it has really been just patchy. That is what we will see for the rest of the day. But it is not over, we are not finished by any means. We are seeing improvement on the roads even though temperatures are still in the upper 20s. This is the durham freeway through downtown durham, looks like everybody is moving along fine. There was some snow earlier but that freezing rain has washed that away. Monday nine in henderson, 31 in tarboro, getting closer to freezing. 32 in goldsboro, kenansville and clinton. This is where the warm air will come in from. From the south southeast and this way northward. Still 28 in Southern Pines and 27 in sanford. We are still not out of the danger zone by any means. Above freezing, which should happen between 2 00 and 4 00 this afternoon depending on where you are, our concern will turn to this big band of precipitation that is back to the west with heavy rain across parts of the deep south. This arrives just in time for the morning commute tomorrow. Thunderstorms, gusty wind, that heavy rain like that during the additional accidents. This morning, still, its going during the commute. The entire viewing area has switched over to rain. You are not going to notice a of course, freezing rain is raindrops that freezes on surfaces, it will just quit freezing on the surface. The raindrops will continue to fall and on future cast, you can see that intensifying about 3 00, 4 00 in the morning. 7 00 when everybody is getting out on the roads its going to be a real mess. The temperatures will be above freezing. We wont see that refreeze that we see so often with situations like this. Instead, temperatures will climb overnight and we will see sunshine by tuesday. Worming into the mid30s this afternoon, and on into the low 40s by tomorrow morning. Then up to 57 by tomorrow afternoon. That puts is pretty close to normal. Highs in the 50s, lows down of the week, but no precipitation. It looks nice and dry. Our normal is 56. Of course, we had such a cold weekend, its hard to remember what normal is. Forecast, 63. Not quite 10 degrees above normal but certainly looking above normal. The record, 75. And the coldest High Temperature on saturday, 26. We saw some weather like that certainly over the weekend last weekend, but we are talking about a 30 degree jump in our afternoon High Temperature.
