by the tornado. tom and karen keller lost ten trees and have no electricity. >> problem with the power out here is we're on wells, so you don't have water, which means you don't have anything. >> yet you can still laugh because -- >> because nobody's hurt. >> reporter: glenwood high school has no water either. howard county parked a truck in front of the school with emergency water for residents. >> it serves to provide water for individuals who have wells. they can get potable water. we have available showering and things for charging your devices. >> reporter: a tree tore through the roof of this home as the tornado hit. two people were inside at the time. >> you could just hear the glass, you know, shattering and the breaking of the just every bit of it you could hear in full detail. >> reporter: ahead, she tells us what a close call it was for her and her brother when the tornado hit and that tree tore through their home. that's the latest live from howard county. pat, back to you. we're still assessing the damage from what happened in cleaning up after yesterday, but, doug, it sounds as if we don't have a whole lot of time to get that clean up going? >> we're watching a potential storm system in the early morning hours of tomorrow and the early afternoon. we are looking at a couple of showers down to the south. most of this just very, very light. most of it not reaching the ground in the winchester area. back to the west, look at this boundary that has set up back to the west. what we're going to be watching later this evening is the potential for a thunderstorm complex to develop. it's a line of thunderstorms -- watch it around chicago -- that form around our region. notice by 7:30 a.m. it is moving towards our area. we could see very strong winds. we could be under a severe thunderstorm watch tomorrow morning. this is something we're going to be paying very close attention to. a chance for strong to severe storms early and then again late in the day. winds will be a factor as well as some hail. weather alert day tomorrow for sure. chuck and tom will be here early. they'll be walking you through it. i'll have much more on this throughout the afternoon and today. yesterday's wild weather certainly left a mark on the cleveland park metro station. water was sent gushing down the steps and the escalator there at e station. adam tuss is live right now to tell us more about what happened. adam, these pictures are unbelievable. >> reporter: some of them don't even look real, but it happened here at this entrance to the cleveland park metro station. you take a look today it looks like everything is business as usual, but yesterday a much different story. take a look at some of the video that we actually got about all of this and the water raging down the steps and the escalator here. this water just came fast and it came strong. now, should the drains on the street have been able to handle all that water? d.c. water came out today to look at things. they say they believe everything was running properly. >> these right here, these are catch basins. if you look in them, you can see there's no water in them. there's no debris in them. they're clean. it is just too much water too fast and take it. >> reporter: too much rain too fast. that's what d.c. water says happened here. metro knows this station is prone to flooding. you take a look across the street. you see the sandbags there. they're out there pretty much all the time. metro's actually going to post some new video about what happened here in the next hour. >> in light of what happened there yesterday, we know we have some more severe storms headed our way scheduled to come through tomorrow. are they taking any extra precautions or are they worried about this happening tomorrow? >> reporter: one thing that d.c. water did do when they came out here is they checked the storm drains to make sure everything was clear. they took a look all the way down to the bottom. they said everything is looking good, but they're going to flush the system again. this might have been a case of too much water all at once. it spilled over here cleveland park metro station. developing, house democrats are staging a sit-down protest right now. they want a vote on gun control measures following the orlando nightclub shooting. a group of 40 democrats demanded a vote on gun control measures before sitting down and occupying the house floor. >> so today we come to the well of the house to dramatize the need for action. not next month. not next year, but now, today. >> the house was not in session when the democrats began their demonstration and republican leaders ordered c-span cameras turned off. lewis and his colleagues say they won't end the sit-in until there is action on gun control. d.c. residents have been dealing with summer heat and no water for the past two days. the management company that runs the condominium in southeast didn'tay but thanks in part to our investigation there's an encouraging new development. mark segraves has the story you'll only see on news4. >> reporter: the water was turned off yesterday without any notice to the 15 families who call this building home here in southeast washington. most of them rent their units. many of them are elderly couples. it turns out they rent their apartments from the condo owners, and many of those condo owners haven't been paying their condo fees and that means the utilities haven't been paid. $18,000 in water bills have gone unpaid for months. that's why d.c. water has to turn the water off here. after news4 started making calls, the property management company reached a deal with d.c. water to get the water turned back on. about an hour ago, the water started flowing here at to hear from residents here who say they're still worried that this isn't the end of this problem. in southeast, mark segrave. news4. first at 4, keeping local water safe to drink. the new concerns about whether water here has high levels of lead. it's the time of the year for bug bites. how you can avoid th woman: i have a masurprise for you.are you? chicago. what's going to happen here is we're going to see this potential for storms not tomorrow afternoon, but tomorrow morning. that could mean as you wake up and step out the front door we could have a watch overnigh tonight. right now no problems. we're dealing with pretty nice conditions. a lot of cloud cover. 83 right now. winds out of the north at 16 miles an hour. a nice afternoon for sure. temperatures into the 80s everywhere. 84 manassas. 77 gaithersburg. frederick at 77. not much to show you on our radar. a few showers to the south. the wider view here, take a look. here's the high clouds moving across our region. we have some mid level clouds. that's giving us the shower activity. we have this boundary. i've been showing it to you for weeks. a big trough of low pressure in the east, a big ridge of high pressure to the west. then we get this train of moisture. we're expecting a very large storm system to develop up around the chicago area and move down towards our region. because of that, storm prediction center as chicago and parts of ohio in a moderate risk of severe weather. a moderate risk is very high risk. you know we're going to see severe weather. that system moves down across the region and we are even in the slight risk early tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon that risk once again comes down and changes across our area. we're in the slight risk all day tomorrow. let's show you on future weather. overnight tonight no problems. cloud cover. nice and warm. nice and mild. look at tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. d.c. we think okay, although this could move a little faster. notice what's happening. strong to severe storms in here by 7:00 in the morning. as you wake up, we could see storms coming across. 8:30 around the d.c. metro area and everywhere. this could be a line of very strong storms with very strong winds moving through at this time and a lot of rain. that's what we're watchi here. we could see more storms develop during the day. some of those could be strong to severe as well. we could have a very stormy day tomorrow, but this could begin early tomorrow morning when you're waking up, when you're stepping out the front stage a demonstration inside the capitol. house democrats have engaged in a sit-in over gun control on the floor of the house. it's being led by the georgia congressman john lewis. the drains were working properly when water started gushing into the cleveland park metro station yesterday. this cell phone video made video from metro. the national weather service confirmed a tornado did indeed touch down yesterday afternoon in howard county. it had wind speeds reaching 80 miles an hour and traveled nearly 13 miles, leaving a wide path of debris. as omar jimenez found out, there were a few close calls. >> reporter: there will be a lot of trees downed for families to clean up for this tornado in woodbine. some of the trees snapped in half. others were pulled from the roots. the chimney from their house was on the ground. one of the teens was riding a horse nearby when the rain, thunder, and lightning started. just south of there, a tree ripped through a family's home. the family has been there for 25 years and they saw the tree go through there. the tree sliced through where an at one point of the storm. they were on opposite ends of the house thankfully at the time. each escaped unscratched. the family car also looks to be totalled. >> two kids were inside. one was right underneath where the tree is, so none of this means anything to me, the damage. that could have been something, a whole different interview you're doing right now. i take that into consideration and i don't worry about any of this. >> reporter: the family says while it won't be the same, they are into your neighborhood. now to a topic a republican congressman tried to block harriet tubman from appearing on the $20 bill. representative steve king of iowa introduced legislation that would have kept president andrew jackson as the face of 20, but the house rules committee decided not to consider that bill. >> they did. while this was going on, people were very upset about this because they thought it was a done deal. president obama made the announcement earlier this year. people were excited about the prospect of not only seeing a woman, but a prominent african-american woman steeped in history on any piece of currency. when this bill came around with respective king, they were certainly upset about that. a lot of people were saying this guy is on the wrong side of history. he said comments like why would you want to change the 20. he said he's a conservative. he'd like to keep what we have already. those kinds of some people very upset. >> i don't understand why americans have a problem celebrating african americans. we are a vital part of the fabric and history of american culture and harriet tubman is a hero of the highest order. she fought a system of slavery and white supremacy. to block her face on the $20 bill in my opinion is the highest form of cowardice. >> originally, i think it was supposed to be the 10. the popularity of the musical "hamilton" saved alexander hamilton. >> this congressman had time to work on the possibility of blocking this dollar amount, but then at the same time not working on things that folks are talking a s sit-in in congress on a bill to work on gun control. they were saying some of the priorities from their opinions just not what people would like to see happening. >> it is 2016, which means everything is political. what have donald trump and hillary clinton said about honoring tubman on the 20. >> hillary supported the change. she says it's the right move for history, but she says it is not far enough. earlier this year she talked about the fact we also need equal income for women in america. then donald trump called it political correctness. he says he'd like to see mr. jackson, president jackson, stay on the 20, but that's not sitting well with kendra from greenbelt. she says he, too, is not making the right decision. >> the fact that donald trump made a suggestion she should be on
