Im aaron gilchrest. For the second day in a row, temperatures are expected to climb well into the 70s. Well above average. Sheena parveen joins us with the changes that arrived this weekend. Hi, guys. Temperatures are close to 80 degrees this afternoon. Were already in the low 70s at this hour. 69 in the direct, 70 in gaitersburg. 79 in dulles. You will not need the yak ket for the rest of the day. You probably wont need it tonight. Dry for friday night plans. Today, 78 for a hig time of year. Normal is at 49 degrees. Tomorrow, rain comes and we drop big time going into sunday. Now to that story developing hour by hour. Police officers not in the district and the suspect killed. We have live team coverage. We wanted to started with Megan Mcgrath near holbrooke street in the northeast. The shooting happened last night at the intersection behind me, the trinidad anybodihood. We still dont have much in the way of detail in terms of what led up to the gin firunfire. Officers came here because of another shooting. When they got here, there was more gunfire. Reporter many residents were winding down for the evening when sde was dead and two d. C. Police officers wounded. Seven or eight bangs. A few sirens and then half the cops in the city. Reporter it happened around 10 40 at the intersection of holbrooke and morse street in northeast. The officers with the Crime Suppression Team came to the area after shots were fired earlier. Once at the intersection, shots rang out again. A suspect was killed, the two officers hit in the lower body. Police say they found a gun which they believe belonged to the suspect. Residents say there have been problems with drugs and other shootings in the neighborhood, but this is extreme. Its not even safe to bring your children, let them play, dont have to worry about nothing. Now you have to worry about your child getting hit. A video has been posted on twitter taken by a man in the area at the time of the shooting. Take a look. The video shows ju it was shot from a distance. And at times it is difficult to make out exactly whats happening. We are airing only the portion that happens after the gunfire has ended. Because of the disturbing nature of the video. In an earlier portion of the video, gunshots can be heard while police are interacting with the suspect. Its not completely clear what exactly happened. Now, a spokesperson with the Police Department says theyre aware of the video, but he cautions this only shows a small portion of what happened, and does not necessarily show accurately the full picture. Their Investigation Continues into exactly what happened. Now, with more on the officers conditions, they were taken to an area hospital after being shot, well go to my colleague, justin finch. Megan, thats right. Those officers spent the overnight here at medstar washington. One recovering from that shooting left both with lower body wounds. This morning the mayor arrived to visit the wounded as well as fellow Officers Holding vigil. Peter newsham did come by to visit as well. Moments after they were shot last night, police say those two officers were brought right here to medstar awake and breathing. At least one was driven here in the backseat of a police cruiser. One officer went right into surgery, likely to remove a bullet. The second may have injuries which include a leg wound. This morning both are stable and in good spirits. As they recover now, their accounts of what happened will become wicritical in the shooti investigation. The two best witnesses that we have that we know of now are the two officers, and theyre at the hospital. It will take us some time before wen them and detail as to what transpired. Police sources confirming to us a short time ago, those officers are resting and continuing their recovery and remain in stable condition. Were live at medstar, justin finch, back in to you. Thank you. It was a violent night in the district. Four people were hurt in three shootings on wheeler road in southeast. The shootings happened within a couple hours of each other. One witness that we spoke with said he heard eight gunshots. Police have not released information on the victims or the suspects in these cases. Now disturbing new information about a deadly shooting on butler road in clinton, maryland. Prince georges county police say a mother killed her 17yearold son. They charged angelique chase with Second Degree murder and assault. Police say she admitted to shooting her son, christopher perry. This happened during an argument between the two last night. Chase is 48. Perry was 17 years old. Nearly half of committed by someone the victim knows and loves. Thats pushing maryland lawmakers to expand the definition of Domestic Violence. One survivor told her story. She said under current law there was Nothing Police could do to help until it was almost too late. Every time i would call the police, they would say theres nothing they could do. He would have to put his hands on me first. When he finally d he almost killed me in front of my children. She was walking along reston parkway at south lakes drive. The driver involved stayed on the scene. Prince William County poli be on the lookout for fake money. Heres how you can protect yourself. Police recommend using counterfeit detection pens or uv light detection devices. This cell phone video shows a scuffle between him and a group of teens before he pulls out a gun and fired a single shot. Police officer and a group of teens after a series of previous complains about neighborhood kids trampling the officers lawn. The confrontation quickly escalated as the officer and teen argued. After struggling with the boy for several minutes, the officer was surrounded by teenagers and tackled by one of them before pulling the gun, firing a single shot. Police say the officer felt threatened, and made the decision to use force. During the confrontation its alleged the 13yearold made a threat against the officer that led the officer to believe that he was going to shoot him. Today city leaders and police are shaken by what they see. Though the video does not show the entire encounter. Im deeply disturbed and frankly angered by what it shows. The video adult wrestling with a 13yearold kid and ultimately firing a gun. Reporter with police protecting one of their own, hunkered down from the officers street which was damaged during a protest wednesday night, neighbors are upset by what happened here. They come around our property, they shove stuff into our trees, we con front them, theyre bold. Were upset. Theres no reason for an officer to respond that way. This morning the dangerous confrontation that went from a struggle to a shooting remains under investigation. But many here have seen enough. And are now drawing their own conclusions. That was Miguel Almaguer the two betweteens involved in incident were arrested and released hours later. All could face charges down the road. As Anaheim Police review this case, so is the lapd where the officer is employed. Parents, students, School Leaders and taxpayers of mond Montgomery County are trying to figure out how to deal with school overcrowding. They met last night to discuss reopening Woodward High School in rockville. The plan would be for woodward to handle some of the overflow from Walter Johnson and other high schools. Seniors at maryland and virginia high schools are really prepared for college. According to the college board, maryland seniors had the third highest a. P. Exam scores in the country. We have new information at this hour on a policeinvolved shooting in maryland. The danger the officer was facing right before the shooting. And an inspiring story of survival. A mother was seriously injured in this crash, her road to recovery has been ha and rd developing at this hour, a man in Critical Condition after he was shot by a Police Officer in howard county. The police there say the man is a suspect accused of stealing a car. They also say he almost ran over that officer this morning in clarksville. This all happened about 4 30 in the morning. The man was driving towards the officer when the officer shot him. The man is in stable condition now at the hospital. Police tell us hes 38 years old but have noti its a story we first covered back in june a tour bus crash on the gw parkway. The accident killed one person and injured more than a dozen more. One of those people who was hurt lost her legs. But as amy cho reports, she didnt lose her hope. Reporter this was the scene when that bus flipped over. It was carrying a group of chinese tourists, one of them lost her legs in the accident. When we last saw her and her son, they were pushing through a tough time, but they had a dream. Walk again. Use her legs. Reporter that was about three months ago. Now, she hasnt given up, and for the first time shes finally getting up. But shes not one to stand still. A few moments later taking off on her first steps. She says walking is still tough for her, but shes happy. When i saw my mother wki for her. Also there, chris dodge. Four months ago he was a total stranger who took them into his home. Now he says theyre like family. All those things weve managed to get through and now to see this today its really quite amazing. Nothing has changed on my end. As long as im able to have them then theyre hanging out. Theres still a long way to go in her recovery. But theyll be there for her every step of the way. And they also told me how grateful they are to everyone in the community. So here to talk about excessive pet shedding, and what you can do about it, veterinarian Jackie Hathaway is with me from the humane alliance. Lets talk about this little guy. Here adorable. Lets talk about shedding. Is this the time we see pets shed more . Yes, pets are shedding their winter coat and their heavy coat, thats why you see a lot of shedding on floors and furniture. As people adopt animals, shedding becomes an issue. What can you say about that . Also people unfortunately i hate to say this, returning animals to the shelter because of shedding. It does happen. The best way to prevent something unexpected in your home is come meet your pet in person before you make the match. Do your Research First is the big statement here. Make sure you know what youre doing. To talk about pet shedding, how to lower shed less during this time of year what are these products that we have to help with that. A couple different shampoos. One of the main things is to get a shampoo made for pets from your store or veterinarian, and then use it according to breed. We have oatmeal shampoo. There are also some deshedding shampoo out there. I use a deshedding shampoo, i notice it has different oils in it to loosen up the fur. Yes. You can also give your dog fish oil under the advice of your veterinarian, and it can cut down on the shedding. Lets talk about brushing. Brushing dramatically reduces shedding. How often should we be brushing . It depends on the breed of your dog. You can brush every day, maybe once or twice weekly to cut d house. Hyper allergenic dogs. What are some types of breeds that are hyper allergenic . No dog is 100 hypoallergenic, but the low or n noshedders, are the poodle, portuguese water dog, s schnauzers, and a few others. If you go on the akc website, you can find some breeds. With the warm weather and the dogs shedding, cats shedding, we are also seeing pollen levels rise. What can you say about pet allergies . Pets can be allergic to pollen like people, but the most common pet allergy is to flees. If you keep your pet on a monthly flee and tick prevention, you can prevent that. Some dogs are allergic to pollen. Some dogs are allergic to the so all things to keep in mind. The bottom line is to prevent or at least prevent a lot of shedding, brush, make sure you use a good shampoo, i use a deshedding shampoo, fish oil. This is a sandwich founded and created down in new orleans by an italian deli guy. Traditionally made on a large loaf bread with sesame seed. Were doing more finger foods, share foods. Well do mini slider styles. Kind of like an italian cold cut with an olive top and cayenne spices that make the difference. Your standard salami, like a bologna, but good gn good bologna. Salami, and house smoked copa ham. We have provolone and greer cheeses. All right. So well make one here. Basically what youll do sh, a of the cayenne aeoli on the bottom and top. We know the aeoli, but you add the cayenne . Yes, we do our own house aeoli, spice it up with cayenne pepper, garlic, vinegar. Give it a unique taste. This is the tappanaud. Even if you dont like olives, this really brings the sandwich together. I appreciate you didnt bring something for me to cook. They dont let me do that here. Put the mortadel this is all cured meats. Its a sandwich, dont worry, you wont hurt it a bit of the salami. Nice thing about sandwiches, if you like more of one thing, you put extra. Personally i would go heavy on the coppa. That coppa ham is delicious. Bam. Same thing, you like a lot of cheese. Put a lot of cheese. If you dont, i personally go heavy on the greer. Its a nice type of swiss cheese.
