Thats pretty much the story around the region. Its light rain. A cold rain it is. The temperatures in the mid30s. The metro area from the west headed east. The blue line in the upper right of the screen. The cold air aloft it located. There is wet snow in northeastern maryland. Another surge of rain into the ohio valley from the west is moving in later this afternoon. Between now and then, were going to stay with wet roads. Noon, 3 00 p. M. , 6 00 p. M. Into the evening. Road temperatures are above freezing. Theyll stay just wet. That includes areas that may get sleet and wet snow north and west of it. Thats going to be later in the afternoon and into the evening hours. Shenandoah valley. Panhandle of West Virginia. Western maryland, it is at or below freezing. Including frederick, hagerstown. Martinsburg, in the mid30s. New hour by hour timing in a bit. Well checn thanks very much. On the roads, depending where you travel. You may run into some of this weather tom was talking about. Reporter we just passed over the bridge from leesburg into maryland, thats where tom was saying that temperature is below 32. Weve seen a lot of trucks out here getting ahead of this storm. I really think thats the name of of the game. We started to down play it yesterday. Even coming up to a stoplight now. Not a lot of ice on the roadways even though it is hitting our windshield. Were getting a little bit of freezing rain. Since the road temperatures are above that freezing mark, they got ahead of this storm as they were treating roads yesterday. Really not that bad. As we continue through the afternoon, of course, well have to watch the road temperatures closely. This event will continue throughout the day. You can see the ice forming here on bushes. Were seeing similar things around trees in st. Louis. The big concern, of course, is all of this ice, as it builds up, its so heavy that it can topple trees and power lines. The biggest impacts so far has been on numerous slideoffs reported from oklahoma into missouri and kansas near wichita overnight. There was a 20car pileup as a result of slick roads. So going forward, the roads are the big concern and then of course, this ice buildup and the potential damage that can cause. For st. Louis where i am, the major ice threat has moved out. Its moving into oklahoma and kansas. You can still see clouds lingering here on the gateway arch. Were not expecting much more ice in st. Louis. Police officer for 45 years. Her son has been on the force for 15 years. Its been by sometimes worry, especially nowadays. Its been hard. But its been good too. The Police Department has been good to us. Both kathys husband and son worked every inauguration since they joined the force and both will be working next friday wearing the badge kathy designed. Were very proud of her. The tradition started in 1981 with the swearing in of ronald reagan. Every inauguration since, d. C. Officers have worn an inaugural badge which they get to keep. When john saw a notice that the department was looking for designs, he urged kathy to give it a try. He said how much time do i have . He said i have to take it back tomorrow. It represents our metropolitan police and what they go through each and every day with their families and my husk in the Police Department 44 years and i have another 15 years with my son, it means a lot. Temperatures above freezing in the metro area. Farther north and west, its at or below freezing. That may be causing icing on elevated surfaces there. Just immediate metro area staying in the upper 30s. 37 or so. 38 by Late Afternoon with light rain off and on. That continues into the evening hours. Weather advisory continues off to our north and west. This Winter Weather advisory until 6 00 p. M. It has been canceled for the metro area as the result of the possibility of some more icing there and maybe a little bit of sleet. Mainly rain. A little bit of sprinkles and drizzle. 3 00 more of the same. But then that next surge of rain from the midwest. That will be around 5 00 p. M. , continuing into the evening hours. Much of it is done by 11 00 tonight. Then we dry out after that. So some sleet and snow and rain in the blue zone, Northern Virginia, the metro area, much of maryland. Help them solve two armed robberies. They happened along a popular spot where people like to jog and bike. Near the georgetown waterfront. Most disturbing is what park Police Say One of the suspects was carrying. A leisurely stroll on the capitol crescent trail. Ray parker and enjoying this part of the park. Pretty, cool. I like it. Its a really nice place. When they found out what we were doing here. Thats wild. Where did he get a machine gun. You heard her. A machine gun. Thats what one of three suspects held to rob a victim last week. This past wednesday a second robbery. This time two suspects. Two men armed with a machine gun and handgun. Related. Two Police Detectives scoping out the area. At first looking closely around the potomac boat club. We noticed cameras. Did they capture anything . Police havent said. Instead, theyre hoping some of you o who use the trail saw something. Its a hef live traveled area. Its likely you saw something. Park police investigated several guns found in a violin case. The response shut down part of canal road. We con derd if it was related. They do not appear to be related. We met two gw students. This freshman was filled in on what happened. Park police say that the victims were not hurt. We just crossed over from Frederick County, maryland to upper Montgomery County through clarksburg. We passed exit 18 on 270. I got to tell you, were seeing freezing rain. But theyve done such a good job treating the roads and plus the road temperatures are above that freezing mark, so really not seeing a lot of issues on the main roads. I do believe untreated surfaces, some of the elevated surfaces also could have a little bit of ice. Other than that, were just looking at very situations. Really not much, just wet roadways on the main roads. We are seeing sleet and some freezing rain here in Frederick County and also into upper Montgomery County. Temperatures in Frederick County, maryland where we just left are down to 30 degrees. Niece are the areas we have to watch closely. Going through Frederick County, maryland, hagerstown. The temperature, the road temperatures are below the freezing mark. Icy patches out there. Otherwise, you may hit a few icy patches on your driveways or porches. The main roads right now, guys, look fine. Lauren, be careful out there. Were following breaking news in Prince Georges County. Police say they found a man shot to death. Derrick ward is live in glen arden. Derrick what, do we know about the investigation so far . Reporter not a whole lot at this point. This happened at 12 10 a. M. Take a look. This is the car that was involved. Its a darkcolored small suv. It was about 12 10 when police were summoned to this town House Community for the report of a shooting. When they got here, they found that car, which appears to be running with the door open and they found the dead moan inside. Police are asking anyone who saw or heard anything or perhaps knows who the person was to get in touch with them as the investigation continues. Now, that scene has since been processed and cleared. But the investigation obviously, does continue into this homicide in Prince Georges County early this morning. Were live in glen arden, derrick ward, news 4. Back to you. Derrick, thank you. Prince georges county police are still searching for the person who shot at a high school student. The shooting happened yesterday at around noon near the school. Police say the student was shot in the leg and is expected to be okay. They think the suspect is also a student. Witnesses say this all lot near the high school annex. They later found a bullet lodged in the ceiling of a classroom. No one was hurt there and at least five shell casings were found. I mean, this is a serious occasion. I mean, someone brought a gun to school. Lives could be lost. It was terrifying and i honestly didnt feel comfortable and i wanted to get out. Anyone with information is asked to call the prince georges Police Department. You can remain anonymous. Right now activists are gathering near the Washington Monument for a massive march to honor dr. Martin luther king, jr. s memorial. Organizers are expected by the thousands to attend. His attorney filed a motion yesterday. Malvo was serving at the head onion state prison in southWest Virginia. His partner in the shootings was executed in 2009. They were con viced for the shooting spree which killed ten people and injured others. The Montgomery County prosecutors are vowing to try again a case that was a mistrial. Prosecutors argue leblond was embarrassed when the transgender woman flirted with him in front of his friends. Theres evidence that someone else may have been involved in the shooting. The jury deadlocked yesterday after three days of deliberations. Tributes have been pouring in for the exorcist screen writer who died on thursday. We cant tell you where it is because we dont know. The location is secret. State and local agencies will coordinate security from there. Then again, thats where there could be light icing, sleet and rain. Mainly just rain elsewhere throughout the afternoon. As we go forward in time, it will taper off a bit. A little bit of light rain at noon to 2 00, 3 00. Well get a surge of rain after 4 00 to 5 00 p. M. Into the metro area. In the pink zone, there may be a little bit of sleet and snow near the pennsylvania border. Much of that rain, 5 00 to 7 00 p. M. Moves into southern boulevard, northern neck, Eastern Shore between 7 00 and midnight. After that, its all gone and we dry off. Northeastern maryland near the pennsylvania border, rain elsewhere in the blue zone, especially in the green one. Off to the west in this pink zone, mainly ice on elevated surfaces. Some icicles forming, light icing there. The tenday outlook, near 50 degrees with welcome sunshine returning. Dr. King day on monday, all the activity should stay dry. A small chance of a sprinkle. A lot of clouds around and highs in the mid40s. Then it gets milder on tuesday into the mid50s with increasing clouds. Might get sprinkles of light rain on tuesday night.
