donald trump and hillary clinton. >> despite their dominance on here's a look at who won what, starting with the republicans. donald trump took two states including virginia. senator ted cruz won two states arguably his home state of texas and a large number of delegates. marco rubio won his home state. the florida voters weigh in a little more than two weeks. political analysts say bernie sanders' strategy worked. he won four of the seven he targets. hillary clinton now has 1,000 delegates nearly half what she snead to qualify. we'll zoom in and take a look at how the gop primary started. trump took 25% of the vote. senator marco rubio took 32%. and senator ted cruz took 17% in virginia. generally speaking counties that are closer to washington, d. went to rubio. farther south you go out to the west, appalachia, voters chose trump. you take a look at the democratic results now, hillary clinton won by a wide margin in most counties. clinton took 64% of the vote in virginia. compared to senator bernie sanders' 35%. now, virginia could be a major factor in the general election this november. and voters in the primary said they were thinking about that when they left the polls. angie goff breaking down the numbers from the live desk. good morning, aaron. people are voting for donald trump and marco rubio. and they have different priorities. in virginia, half the people said they wanted a candidate with political experience voted for marco rubio. he also took more than 60% of the people who wanted someone who could win in the general election. donald trump, they took the voters who wantth outsider. 60% said that is one of the most important qualities. they also wanted a candidate, someone who would tell it like it is. >> nbc news political director reporter: i know, but i've got to tell you, it doesn't feel right now with the win and temperatures falling this morning, it's hard to believe that the cherry blossoms are going to come out soon but that is the case. there. we've just got the smalest of buds forming on the trees, in a matter of weeks, we're expecting to see cherry blossoms at the tidal basin. it's march 14th through april 22nd. we're going to hear the estimate of when we can expect to see peak bloom. last year peak bloom was april 10th. it was a big deal for the washington area. 1.5 visitors come to seat cherry blossoms. $126 million generated by the festival. and peak bloom is when 70% of the blossoms are out. we're going to get that estimate later on today when the national park service thinks that that peak bloom may happen. of course, a lot of factors in terms of temperatures, what happens, they really can't get a great idea until about ten days prior to peak bloom. so they're going to tweak it as we go along. but our first estimate can happen later on this morning. back to you in the studio. >> t 6:06. in just a few hours, the maryland man charged with murdering his own 2-year-old daughter will appear in court. daron boswell-johnson will be in preliminary court charged with killing his 2-year-old daughter and his wife. today, two virginia families may begin to get closure in the murders of their daughters. we expect jesse matthew jr. to enter a plea in the deaths of morgan harrington and hanna graham, the college students who were abducted in charlottesville and murdered five years apart. matthew is charged in both cases. the hearing will happen this afternoon in charlottesville. once the deal is announced we'll send an alert to your phone. and now pepco and exelon merger d.c. mayor bowser has pulled her support for the nearly $7 million deal. last friday, the d.c. service commission rejected the deal. one of the conditions was eliminating a three-year rate freeze for customers. the lawyer who represents pepco said she will not agree to those terms and she represents more than nine groups that must give their approval for the deal to go through. pepco and epsilon have a candidate that was powering up voters in this event. but they absolutely believe that trump is going to be a general election disaster. i'll tell you, time is running out, there's essentially two weeks, yun, for the republican party to shore up this nomination. by the way, he is the only candidate in this field on the republican side that can win enough delegates to secure the nomination before the convention. ted cruz and marco rubio, their only hope is to deny delegates to trump and fight the convention. >> we'll see how that plays out. what about who came out to vote. you tweeted last night that we're seeing record voter turnout in almost every state including virginia. >> we are. i mean, it was amazing. 30% upticks in turnout. all-time records in all of these southern primaries. pretty much i think it's every single primary a record turnout, except for vermont last night. other than that, it's been across the board. look, it's a new type of republican voter. this isn't a traditional republican primary voter. this has been folks that hasn't participated in primaries. this is trump bringing them to the polls. these are folks they're not as conservative as, say, the traditional republican voter is. and that's why donald trump hasn't been punished for some of his positions that run count tore a traditionally arepublican past because he's eelectorate into a took so long to pay them but she did say it shouldn't be much longer. >> any invoices that we have are being processed in the normal course. we're about, i think, 30 days today. so i don't anticipate any holdup. >> district like many jurisdictions rely heavily on private snowplows to clear the roads when it snows. a strong show of support for prince george's county in the battle for the future head quarters of the fbi. maryland representative steny this. he said the state has been focused on making green belt the new site. he also said he felt green belt would be a better option. he said prince george's makes sense because of proximity. and a bill that would send parents to jail hosting underage drinking parties is moving forward. >> parents could face up to one year for the offense, two years for the second offense. >> this bill was made after two neens montgomery county killed last union in the a drinking and drive accident. they had been at a party where a parent allowed hanging around there. southbound bw parkway, 175 blocking that ramp. 6:32, back to decision 2016 now. here are the big take a whats from super tuesday. hillary clinton and donald trump swept the contest in their respective parties. senator ted cruz did take his home state along with the gop delegates. as predicted, voter turnout extremely high. nearly every single super tuesday state broke the voter turnout record. candidates are looking ahead to the next big primaries. florida, ohio voters, they cast their ballots in a little over two weeks. chuck todd said we could be headed to a contested gop convention. it hasn't happened a long time but essentially it happens when none of the candidate has the majority of the delegates before this summer's republican convention. chuck said that donald trump needs to have a very strong week to earn a majority. now, voters in northern virginia were especially split over the candidates. let's take a look at th williams county, senator marco rubio won there taking 33.5% of the vote. donald trump followed closely behind with 33.1%. in loudoun county, also a very thin win for marco rubio. the results are indicative of a trend we're noticing that count this close to the district choose rubio over trump. virginia voters are talking about the issues most important to them. we'll break down what your neighbors care most about ahead at 6:45. "the washington post" reporting that a third lawsuit is in the works in the child pornography investigation involving an elementary school volunteer in prince george's county. news4 air irk ka gonzalez is live with more of what we're learning. >> reporter: hi, aaron, good morning to you. another lawsuit filed in the child pornography case involving a former teacher aide here. according to "the washington post" attorneys for victims in s complaint which alleges prince george's county school officials failed to act after being alerted to reports of abuse. the post says the latest suit named a teacher here allegedly ignored a child's report of abuse by deonte care away. a federal jury has in fact indicted carrway. and it involves sexual acts against children. ages 9 to 12. all of this allegedly taking place on school grounds and at other locations in maryland. authorities have identified 17 victims. we should also report that carrway has waived his rights and admitted his role in producing child pornography. we're live in prince george's county this morning. i'm erika gonzalez. back to you. it's now 6:35, to a terrible story add families already coping with a loss. virginia gray died last month after falling unconscious in her d.c. home. her family tells us they made all of the funeral arrangements but when they arrived for the viewing last weekend, someone else was in their grand mother's casket. >> lunacy is what it is. it's unspeakable. >> we just want to have a proper funeral and burial if it's not too late. >> the family says they don't know what happened to their grandmother's body. they checked with the hospital where gray died and they tell us they're looking into the problem. 6:35 right now, parents in upper northwest d.c. are not happy that a music and arts program may lose its funding. news4 mark segraves has the latest. >> reporter: coming up on news4, a program is now on the chopping block. i'm mark segres from parents who say d.c. public schools is now putting a new spin on paid plans. cabernet or cappuccino?
