>> he was my first-born son to have -- to know that he was still there means the world. there. him. and we did. >> reporter: she tells me that she wants to say thank you to the thousands of people who reached out to her on social media and the searchers who searched for her precious loss. >> whitney: thank you, courtney. many of you came out to help those affected by the tornado by donating to gleaning for the world. today there were collection spots at the walmart in appomattox and the sam's club in lynchburg. they're collecting, non-perishable food, clothing wset.com. and a few local churches for stepping up to provide items for the tornado victims. piedmont church of christ and one other church are offering free supplies to anyone affected. it includes, food, clothes, cleaning supplies and for. 191 police tower in appomattox behind the flea market is the location. as the residents of evergreen try to pick up the pieces, many say the volunteers have been a god send. those giving back say it's about doing the right thing because you never know when the shoe will be on the other foot. >> they need help. it doesn't matter whether it's appomattox, lexington, or >> i know if it happened to me, i would certainly appreciate all of this help. [buzzing sound] >> in evergreen, we lost a house to a fire 35 years ago, and the community stepped in and helped us out. it's time to give back. it's devastating the loss they suffered between the another. good weather out there today for the clean up. we saw a lot of sunshine albeit chilly and freezee. new details on the tornado in evergreen. officially on the ground for 17 miles. it was 400 yards at its widest points and officially damaged about 100 structures. these are new details from the weather service this afternoon. temperatures are in the 40s before dropping to the 30s overnight. sunny and breezy tomorrow. rain chances back in the forecast next week. >> whitney:. state police spent the earlier part of day responding to two different crashes in rockbridge county. one of them fatal. a single vehicle accident on interstate 81 left traffic a car ran off the left side of the road, hit the median and trees. both occupants were taken to the hospital. that road should be reopened now. and the trooper responding to that crash also worked a fatal this morning. police have not released the name of the victim, and we're still waiting on more information to be released. we'll bring you updated as soon as we get them. and we have an update on last night's officer-involved shooting is -- in roanoke county. the suspect died in the hospital. the suspect's name has not been released. a witness saw the suspect wearing a bandana and waving a gun. the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, which is part of standard she is leading by double digits. >> whitney: marco rubio is set to take a break from the campaign trail to speak at he'll take the stage at 8:30 p.m. roanoke college says this event will give students the chance to hear directly from a national-level candidate and make their own decision. afterwards there'll be a student-led discussion open to everyone on campus. >> the weather took a wild turn but the way for tomorrow. this area of low pressure towards the great lakes will give us a counterclockwise flow. and we've got a cold front coming through for monday. it will be a relatively dry one. some clouds and maybe a shower or two there. the majority of us will stay dry for monday. a better chance of rain in the middle of the week. we are clear tonight. temperatures will be slow to cool. we'll see more sunshine on sunday. some high-level cirrus clouds on sunday night. and maybe a spotty shower here or there for monday afternoon. not a washout by any stretch. and later on in the afternoon, perhaps we're looking at dry skies for everyone. that will change tuesday night. our best chance of rain this week with yet another boundary will come in. and a leftover shower or two for wednesday and thursday. clearly we can tell a front is coming in. warmer. we'll be watching for another area of low pressure to start to ride up the close. the cool air will be in play for thursday and friday. we'll have to again watch the possibility of wintry precipitation in the latter cool, crisp, and cool breezes tonight. 30 overnight in lynchburg. 31 alta vista. 34 danville. lexingson, 29.
