Very heavy rain. A couple minutes ago we werent able to see that far ahead of us because of the rain. Were just to the north of the strongest part of the storm. I mentioned just north of high sholes, very heavy rain and strong winds. Its moving very fast. The storm is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 12 45, its moving at 60 to 70 Miles Per Hour. So it will be here and gone but we had to really slow down our speed, both hands on the wheel because of the winds that were so strong. Weve been hearing reports of downed power lines and trees. Were likely going to see some of those throughout areas of lincoln and Gaston County with these strong thunderstorms. Were getting near the lincolnton area, light rain still continuing here in storm cam. Still some very dark ominous clouds ahead of us. Theyre moving very fast here this afternoon. We dealt with the heavy rain. And weve seen some lightning. So these storms are very strong and powerful. Theyll be moving very fast. Up to 60 to 70 Miles Per Hour as i mentioned with your biggest concern being strong winds, heavy rain, some minor flooding a possibility as well. And again, these storms are moving to the east northeast. I have an update in areas outside of lincolnton, were going to continue to track the storm as it remains. Well give you an update in a few minutes. Keith, back to you. Heres another picture of the tree down. This is in burke county. Thats where a lot of reports we have coming in with this storm as it strengthened in the foothills. Dave faherty sending us these pictures. This is not far from the ikert area. Moving east down i40. The part that prompted severe warnings working into catawba let me focus in on taylorsville. Most of Alexander County, youre clear here, some gusty winds. Under a Tornado Warning into Alexander County until 12 30 here this afternoon. You can see that sliver with that particular line. This particular cell is part of the cell that did prompt the initial warning for the Tornado Warning from doppler radar. The initial rotation. So thats why theres still a concern. Im seeing this in the weakening phase considerably from what we saw 30 to 45 minutes ago when this warning was issued. Id say still stay in shelter. Taylorsville, youre breaking free of this, the line moves to the northern part of Alexander County. And were getting no reports of any injuries thankfully from all these reports of wind damage coming on through with this line of thunderstorms. So thats great news. I hope folks are heeding the warnings and staying inside. Lets get an update of where the current warnings are for a good section of eastern lincoln moving into Iredell County now. The line breaks up once you get further to the south. The worst weather i can find on live Early Warning doppler 9 is here between denver and lincolnton, along highway 150 rolling from denver into lincolnton, as you cross over highway 16, still some torrential down pours. This all still west of lake norman. But its going to continue to move to the east very quickly into the northern part of lake norman. Cheryls ford getting in on this right now. So lets put a storm track on northeast. Should move mariposa ads 12 09. Cornelius and davidson, 12 20. Mecklenburg county and huntersville, around 12 23. Youll still find heavy rain further south as you head down into Gaston County, its not looking to be as severe. Its still raining very steadily. And its not going to take a today. The winds have been gusting 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour even just outside of the thunderstorms. So you can see from our lake norman camera here, some very heavy rain is pushing on through at this time at 12 06. Were seeing big down pours as were seeing heavy rains pushing in. We have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Catawba County, Gaston County, Iredell County, until 12 45. And looking at another report from the National Weather service, a tree on a power line on cumberland avenue in Gaston County. So you go into gastonia. It doesnt look as severe. But its not taking as much of an impressive look on radar to cause damaging wind rolling on through. You can see heavy down pours just to the west side of gastonia. Moving its way on highway 29 just came out of bessemer city, we saw very heavy rain here. We may look at stronger wind gusts coming into gastonia now. They may not be looking as impressive on the radar screen, its still going to produce a lot of wind. Lets talk about york county. The southern end of this storm is strengthening out of clover and york moving down 161. On the north side of rock hill. Were seeing very strong rain returns showing up on live Early Warning doppler 9 coming out of the connellsvilles area and east side of work. We put a storm track on this. That would track through the lake wiley vicinity shortly in the next 5 minutes. Around 12 12, rock hill, 12 15, the carowinds area, along the South Carolina North Carolina line, at 12 19. 12 22. Now officially, no Severe Thunderstorm Warning with this particular cell thats coming through part of york county right now. Thats been off to the north, part of gaston and lincoln counties, but this particular cell not under a warning i would take shelter around the steele creek vicinity. Youll look at heavy rainfall coming in. Extending from steele creek, south on 49, as you head to york highway working west across the buster boyd bridge. Me i have rains working west there. And on the north side of the city, as you head out on ebenezer road, youll see more of this heavy rain coming through shortly as we pass our way through the bottom of the hour, that works its way further to the east. To around ballantyne through around indian land. Well see that role through about 12 30 this afternoon. Winds could gust any where from 12 30 to 12 45. Were going to go to the news desk now with stephanie to get more updates of some of the wind damage reports that were getting in. Of damage weve seen so far. We want to talk about south charlotte now. A tree crash into a car there and knocked out power. Eyewitness News Reporter angela hong found out other neighborhoods are still in the dark in that area. Right now about 4200 Duke Energy Customers are without power in mecklenburg county. Here in the will more neighborhood, about 200 people were sitting in the dark for 2. 5 hours this morning because of this tree. It came down, dragged down power lines, and obviously landed on top of this car. I spoke with city of charlotte crews before they left the scene, they told me they have been busy all morning clearing lines. Here at wood crest avenue and south trion. This old tree got knocked down by the wind. It was across the street for a few hours before crews cleared it. The tree totaled this car. Theres broken glass everywhere. Neighbors described what they heard and saw. I thought it was a heavy strike of lightning. And we didnt know what was going on. Outside, and we seen it. And we were shocked to see that. A lot of the trees in the will more neighborhood are very old. Over 100 years old. They expect things like this to happen as the ground is saturated and the winds are picking up. City crews told me theyd be busy all afternoon clearing trees. Angela hong, channel 9 eyewitness news. We want to go to live pictures now, were seeing more Power Outages because of the Severe Weather thats moving in. This is a live picture of sardis lane at valley brook road in south charlotte. As you can see, energy crews on the scene now as they are trying to restore power. You can see they have buck trucks out there. No word at this point how many people in this area of sardis road and valley brook road do not have power. Were working to try to get that information. But again, as this storm is moving through the area, this is what were expecting to see. A lot of Power Outages. Trees coming down. Roots are saturated on a lot of the trees. Just a little wind will bring down the trees. Trucks out there. Crews trying to restore power. Lets go back to meteorologist keith monday with an update on that system for us right now. Keith . Lets look at some of the strong winds coming through the region here. Weve looked at our data on live Early Warning doppler 9. Theres been a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for york and Chester County working into mecklenburg county. These wind speeds estimated picking up from around 50 Miles Per Hour to 60 Miles Per Hour or stronger. Now again some of the returns were getting from the radar are pretty high up in the sky. But its picking up wind above us of 60 plus Miles Per Hour. So im really concerned about some significant wind damage working its way into rock hill to fort mill down in through chester. Probably get another Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued out of this line. Moving at 55 to 60 Miles Per Hour. Earlier, we came on the air, right around 11 30, 11 40, there was a Tornado Warning alexander counties. The storm that prompted the warning through alexander, moved out into wilkes county. And theyve raised it to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Tornado warning. Thats great news for sure. As we look ahead to high Wind Warnings coming through for the heavy weather thats been pushing through part of york and in through chester counties. A high wind warning. So wind speeds, what are they estimating the wind speeds with that . 55 to 60 Miles Per Hour im anticipating here. Were seeing strong wind coming through. Were picking that up on the live Early Warning doppler 9. This storm is broken up into lets eliminate Tornado Warning from Alexander County. Thats passed and done. Im more concerned about general strong storm winds working its way on through the northern part of york county and pushing into lake wiley and tega cay. North side of rock hill. This will eventually work its way into charlotte. At the moment, we dont have the Severe Thunderstorm Warning with this. We have a high wind warning for york and chester counties. Until about until later on this afternoon. You can see the time line charlotte, 12 27. As we work our way toward 12 29, over toward noda. Were looking at strong wind, possibly damaging wind. But we did see that getting reports of Power Outages at this point because of this storm thats moving through our area again as youve been hearing from meteorologist keith monday that we are under a Tornado Warning for some areas, a tornado watch for other areas. Heres that live video that i just mentioned. This is sardis lane and valley brook road. You can see there was a cmpd car blocking that road so drivers could not go by the area as crews are trying to restore power. You see those two bucket trucks right there.
