Today we found Court Documents that show dashanika got an emergency protective order days before she was killed. She wrote that he made threats towards her, kicked her dishwasher, burned pictures in the sick and vandalized end tables. 9 days after making the complaint, Police Say Smith kicked in her front door and shot her with her kids and mother in the apartment. Detectives tell newschannel 3 they were following up on a robbery investigation this morning when they heard what they believed to be a weapon being chambered inside a room at the motel. A woman left the room they had an eye on and, a short time later shots rang out inside according to police. Investigators say they could tell the man was wounded by a gunshot as he came out of the he was treated by fire and rescue and transported to Sentara Norfolk general hospital. Police decline to reveal how he was shot, but do say he has serious injuries. We are told that the investigation is ongoing. A Newport News Elementary School is empty today officials closed it down after finding something potentially harmful to students inside. Newschannel 3 s Kurt Williams is live in the control room with the details. No students, no busses no one at hilton Elementary School today. Thats because School Officials say crews found paint with lead in it throughout the school and for safety concerns, they cancelled school. An alert was posted on the school s website it said crews were stripping paint for a new coat and discovered the lead based paint. Now crews are working to fix it. Last night they came in and began cleaning and performing air quality tests. Theyre continuing today and officials wont reopen the school until they see a good air Officials Say the school will also be closed tomorrow to continue the cleanup process. Police say a Norfolk School was forced to evacuate this morning after reports of a bomb threat. This happened at Lake Taylor Middle School on kempsville road. Police tell us they did give the all clear just before 10. Police also say no device was found and students were escorted back into the school. No one was hurt. Police want to remind the community that if a student is caught making a threat they could be charged with a felony. A group of officers on duty at the time jumped into action. We all went to the Grocery Store and we loaded up on groceries. I think it ended up totaling between four of us about 160dollars worth of groceries. After stocking up, the officers took the groceries to the man s home and filled up his pantry with enough food to last him for a month. I think he was shocked at the amount of food that we bought and just the fact that it was there without question. Officers tell us the doesn t have family close by. According to police. Last weekend, a former caretaker allegedly stole his debit card, went shopping and left him no money to buy food.
