Received the same mail at her same address for years. Shortly after she and her husband split, all of her mail vanished. It was being rerouted and we learned that can happen to just about anyone. Delta hawkins likes to receive all her Bank Statements in the mail. Empty day after day. She called the post office. They say its probably just a slow mail week. You know . And im thinking, no, no. I get a lot of mail. It began in july of 2015. Shortly after her husband moved out. At first the post office thought someone was stealing her mail out of her box. They encouraged her to rent a box. That worked for a while. And last month all of a sudden after not receiving her mail for several weeks, hawkins went to the post office to complain. I know how much mail i get. And im not getting any. [laughing] she goes, oh, well heres one for you. And it was just an advertisement thing. It wasnt even mail. You know . And i said no, i said thats junk mail. The post office box didnt solve the mail mystery interest. So a postal worker gave hawkins one last idea. She said she was told to write her name on her mailbox so the mail carrier would know who she was. But as you might imagine, that didnt work either. It gets very frustrating because theyre not they dont even look for it. They dont even try. You know . And they just keep making it your problem. Hawkins eventually discovered a change of address had been filed without her permission. In all of her mail was being routed to a post office box a store she said her exhusband rents a post office box in. We realize it can be a Family Member thats being vindictive in nature postal worker said he couldnt be sure thats what happened in this case it is a federal crime to change somebodys address without them knowing about it. Its stealing an address. More than 700 mail fraud complaints investigated last year across hawkins believes there would be fewer complaints if the post office made it harder for someone to change peoples address without their knowledge. For a dollar they change the address. So its they dont ask for any i. D. , they dont ask for anything. So anybody could go on and use somebody elses name. And say, i want their mail sent to timbuktu. Shortly after we interviewed United States post office said hawkins address has been changed back to the home she currently lives in and all her mail is now being delivered. The post office is looking into this case for possible criminal charges. If somebody thinks their mail is being rerouted is there anything they can do . Any advice . Great question. Off the top first thing you should do is contact the post office directly. Of course if that doesnt work, the next thing you should do is contact the postal inspector as well as the postmaster, postal sp carry chill charges if theres criminal charges if theres mail fraud or a deception that they can prove theres illegal intent or illegal activity going on. Its one of those things where were glad we got her problem resolved and viewers have another issue wed be more than happy to investigate.
