Her name, charlotte burkeet, left school because of unexpected turn in live, but never gave up on trying to get her diploma. Now in her 70s, celebrating her success, our Chris Oconnell was at this incredible Graduation Ceremony last night. Everything changed. The last time charlotte burkeet walked the halls of her high school, jfk was being sworn in. Elvis topped the music chart. And in 1960 pregnant teenagers like her were forced to drop out of school. My most important thing was raising my children. The single mom left simon grat high school in the 11th grade, just one and half credit shy of graduation. Now, this 71 year old great grandmother, from north philly, who put her life on hold to raise her kids, is missing one thing. All my kids graduated. My grand kids graduated. I say well i want my diploma on the wall, too. Charlotte, most call her beauty is, went back to Ben Franklin Franklin high school to finally try on the graduation robe she has waited 55 years to wear. It was hard, my two teachers i had kept telling me charlotte you can do it. And with the pomp and circumstance, she missed years ago, bootsy among dozens of former dropouts that strolled across the stage like teenage tears receive their long awaited diplomas. Right there, cheering her on in the front row, her emotional daughter antoinette, the reason why her mom left school in the first place. It means a lot to me to see my mama graduate. Because when she should have been graduating she had me. And the main thing she wanted us all to do was to get while most of her classmates will be going off to carreers and college there is High School SeniorSenior Citizen plans to travel and relax and yes she will be back for her senior prom.
