Reporter if you raise your price and i raise my price to the same level, what am i saying to you as a company . Lets keep going. Im not going to fight you. Reporter senator Bernie Sanders is calling for a federal investigation, alleging collusion among the three drug companies. And on the companys website, increasing list prices is designed to offset rebates and price concessions to maintain profitability. And lori riley, with the trade group that represents u. S. The forces that were operating with in syria are much more indigenous. Theyre much lighter. They dont have as good a mobility. They dont have as much firepower. So, you know, we have to be prepared to fill in some of the, some of those gaps for them, and that may involve, you know, Additional Fire support capability to help offset some of those gaps that they have and we would take the burden on ourselves to provide that aspect of the fighting. Ep rorter votel said the basic strategy, begun by the obama administration, of letting local forces do the fighting will not change. But in iraq, 450 american advisers are moving forward with iraqi forces into the city of mosul, getting closer to the front lines than ever before. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson and Homeland Security secretary john kelly are in mexico to discuss border issues with mexican officials. For secretary tillerson, its his second foreign trip since becoming americas top diplomat. Tillerson has kept a low profile in his first weeks on the job, and some current and former state Department Officials are raising concerns about staffing cuts and being kept from key meetings. Heres margaret brennan. Reporter while secretary of state Rex Tillerson has largely been silent during his almost three weeks on the job, he hasnt held any news conferences and many of his meetings and phone calls to foreign leaders are not being publicly disclosed. Theyre also havent been any daily briefings, which for decades had been the main channel for the department to get its message out. That means foreign governments are often left describing american policy rather than the u. S. Itself. But perhaps more serious for diplomats, state Department Officials were completely shut out of President Trumps meeting with israeli Prime Minister last week, while mr. Trumps soninlaw, jared kushner, who has no experience in foreign affairs, did sit in. But state Department Officials shut out. Hes meeting with the president today, and he often speaks with him by phone. Officials tell me that tillerson is being careful and deliberate. Hes trying to turn President Trumps rhetoric into policy, while flying under the radar of a high profile administration that is facing no shortage of diplomatic challenges. One of the many global issues secretary tillerson will have to confront is the growing Nuclear Threat from north korea. Now major drug makers are accused of putting profits before patients. Between 2002 and 2013, the price of insulin more than tripled to more than 700. A federal lawsuit claims three insulin manufacturers are colluding to raise prices. The drug makers deny the allegations. Anna werner has this story. Im sorry to see you again in the hospital. Reporter Investment Research firm ssr health analyzed insulin list prices from 2012 to 2016 for the three companies that manufacture it, and found prices went up between 99 and 120 . Companies do it because they can. Repor i analysis, ssrs richtdard evans also found a striking pattern. The prices of two insulin drugs rose in lock step, mirroring each other, 12 times between 2008 and 2014. The two companies took price increases within days and the price increases were similar, even identical down to the percentage point. Reporter if you raise your price and i raise my price to the same level, what am i saying to you as a company . Lets keep going. Im not going to fight you. Reporter senator Bernie Sanders is calling for a federal investigation, alleging collusion among the three drug companies. Just coincidentally, it happens that the three major suppliers of insulin seem to be raising their prices at the same exact time, at the same level. So i think you have to be very naive not to believe theres collusion. Reporter the Companies Deny theyve broken any laws. Sanofi told us theres strong eli lily said its aggressively competing on negotiated price. And on the companys website, increasing list prices is designed to offset rebates and price concessions to maintain profitability. And lori riley, with the trade group that represents u. S. Pharmaceutical manufacturers, told us i dont believe theres been collusion by our company. Reporter she points out although the drug companys list prices up, the negotiated price for insulin, have gone up just 2 to 3 overall. She says thats because enter intermediaries negotiate for rebates from drug companies, take a fee, then pass those lower net prices onto Insurance Companies and ultimately cons e consum consumers. The problem, says evans, patients with high deductibles or little or no insurance dont get those discounted prices. In other words, the people who can least afford these increases are the ones who get hit by them . Bit. But people can cant afford to get hit disproportionately. Reporter but riley says when you look at the evidence, the competitive marketplace is working to help keep drug Cost Increases in check. Reporter i listen to that statement and im hearing consumers go, are you kidding me . There is an issue for many patients who face increasing deductibles. If theyre coming to the pharmacy counter paying full list price, while their Insurance Company or pharmacy benefit manager has bought that drug at a 50 discount, that is a problem. Reporter the countrys largest pharmacy benefit manager told us drug makers are the ones raising the prices. But experts tell us theres plenty of blame to go around here in the system. Meanwhile, all three insulin manufacturers say theyve announced new initiatives to make insulin more affordable for patients that need that help. You can go to our website to find more information those initiatives, as well as an email address to contact us about this issue or any other consumer problems you think we should look into. This time of year many drivers will be bumpy while they drive over potholes. Its always nice to see the holes getting fixed. A chicago man is turning road repair into artwork. Its just that unexpected jo reporter his street mosaics have been appearing around the city for years now. Dozens of them dotting the roads. Former potholes that are now frames for flowers, and a few that state the obvious. Like this pothole that proudly screams, its not a pothole anymore. This is probably my popular piece. Reporter probably more people see this than if it was in a gallery somewhere. Thats a good point. Reporter a graphic artist, jims passion for mosaics started on a trip to pompeii, italy, where he realized if art made of glass and marble was durable enough to survive a volcano, surely it could survive modern day traffic. And they do. They hold up remarkably well. Much of the surprise and delight of passersby. Its great. It looks beautiful. I laugh every time i see it. Reporter jim spends eight to ten hours crafting each piece. All in his basement studio. Carefully chipping away at the colored glass. Then setting each tiny piece in place. There are some moments of terror once the because it can all go to hell in a second. Reporter its held together by nothing but cheese cloth and placing it on top of wet concrete is a process thats not entirely forgiving. As it dries, jim peels the cheese cloth back. Its a painstakingly slow and detailed procedure. Especially when you consider the fact that hes doing it all in his knees in the middle of traffic. Ever feel vulnerable out here . Yes, yes, i do. Reporter he just tries not to inhale too much. Theres a hazard. But the most nerveracking part may be leaving his work behind to dry overnight. He watches cars zoom around his cones with almost reckless disregard, but somehow they survive, at least until theyre paved back over. It used to bum me out, but its a price i pay for playing in the street. Reporter thats why he posts his works on instagram. At least there, theres a little social media permanence. He has thousands of followers who wait for him to post his newest installation. After all, there are plenty of potholes that could use an artistic lift. Too many to ever get to in a single lifetime. So the next time you curse one for destroying your cars alignment or blowing a tire, try to look at them the way jim bocker does.
