TROY, N.Y. â During the Thursday evening public hearing and finance meeting, the Troy City Council passed (5-2) an ordinance proposal hiring six community police officers.
As part of the proposal, two officers would be dedicated to each zone. On paper, the goal is to have the community officers engaged with neighborhoods, building trust and rapport, and solve potential problems before they escalate.
The public comment session appeared to be mixed if not leaning against the proposal among residents who spoke. Some of the speakers welcomed the idea of more officers involved in the community, while others expressed the need to spend taxpayer funds on other resources and programs for communities.
