SEATTLE – The Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star returned to its homeport in Seattle Saturday after a months-long deployment in the Arctic.
The icebreaker’s crew patrolled the Bering and Chukchi Seas and a portion of the 1,700-mile international maritime boundary line as part of a joint effort with the Russian Border Guard.
The crews were in the Arctic to defend the nation’s maritime sovereignty and gather high-latitude scientific data.
