A group of Ukiah Police Officers are being investigated by their department for using excessive force against a mentally ill naked man. The incident occurred last Thursday when officers responded to a call about a naked man running in the roadway. Videos taken by bystanders show that the officers used pepper spray, tasers, and kicks and punches to subdue 25-year-old Gerardo Magdaleno who was taken into custody. He was treated for facial fractures and concussions at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Hospital. Magdaleno’s family says that he has schizophrenia and had run out of medication and that he had taken LSD that morning. As part of a statement from Ukiah Police, the incident “will be evaluated and investigated per UPD Policy.”
