The U.S. Navy updated residents Thursday during a virtual meeting on investigations into chemicals in drinking water wells near the former Grumman naval weapons plant in Calverton.
Residents say the Navy should be testing wells outside a mile radius of the plant since county testing found contamination there.
"We talk about PFAS and PFOA, they're emerging contaminants, they're learning more and more about them each day, and they lead to all kinds of medical issues in people. What happens with them they don't disintegrate, they don't dilute in water," says Kelly McClinch, of the Restoration Advisory Board.
