The arrest and detention of a popular transgender social media influencer in Cameroon has forced the country's already fearful LGBTQI community to go into hiding.
Last week, make-up artist Shakiro, whose real name is Njeuken Loic, and Mouthe Roland, who goes by the name Patricia, were sentenced to five years in jail and fined 200 000 CFA francs (about R5 225) for breaking Cameroon's anti-homosexuality laws, according to rights groups.
