Today, thousands of pets could find new homes through nbc 10 and telemundo 62s efforts to clear the shelters. The oneday event takes place all over the valley. Jesse gary is live. The shelter is closed right at this moment, but we understand that there are 100 recently rescued cats inside . Tell us more. Reporter thats right. Those cats and kittens were many much worse shape. They were found living on top of each other inside a hoarders house, a total of 122 felines are now inside cages here at the pennsylvania spca recovering from their ordeal. A married couple wanted to establish a sanctuary in their home on tahoe lane, so they started collecting adult cats. But they didnt spay or neuter, and the cats started multiplying. Neighbor complaints about the smell and garbage prompted local police to investigate on thursday. They found felines living in feces and urine with an ammonia level so high it could cause respiratory problems. Most were suffering from severe flea infestation and a byproduct of that, anemia. We were looking at a 4weekold kitten that needed a blood transfusion yesterday, that is definitely something that breaks your heart. But to do this work, you have to concentrate on the good things. You cant concentrate on the bad. Reporter and Sergeant Nicole wilson says they were able to save the life of that kitten. The other animals that were inside that house have received the medical treatment they needed, and are going to be available, most of them will be available for adoption later today. As for the couple at the center of this, they cooperated with authorities, so while they could face charges, they probably will not face charges because they did try to do the right thing by setting up the sanctuary and they did ultimately turn the animals over. Nbc 10 was on the scene on Potter Street where the double shooting happened around 11 45 last night. Police tell us one victim was wounded in the hand. The other in the foot. Were working to find out more about their conditions. Theres no word on any arrests or motive in this case. A 61yearold man is in stable condition after he was shot in philadelphias cobbs creek neighborhood. A bullet struck his ankle and another grazed his head. So far, police have not made any arrests. In west philadelphia, police are searching for the gunman wanted in a double shooting that sent two people to the hospital. Two men were shot in the arm just before 2 00 this morning. Both are in stable condition. Investigators will be looking at Surveillance Video in the neighborhood to try to identify the shooter. This morning, four people are facing charges related to a drug bust at a philadelphia hotel. Police made the arrests at the hilton at penns landing last night. Investigators tell us a Hotel Employee called 911 concerned about suspicious items in one of the rooms. When police arrived, they found what appeared to be a large amount of cocaine. They also discovered a loaded semiautomatic handgun. New this morning, a sprint car driver from bucks county is dead after an accident on the track in central pennsylvania. Authorities say James Campbell jr. Died after striking the wall at Williams Grove speedway in mechanicsburg last night. The accident happened during warmup laps. The track canceled the rest of the racing program. Campbell was from feasterville. He was not a regular at the speedway. Sky force 10 was over this fire scene in trenton last night where crews rescued a person from inside a house in hills place. In total, three homes caught on fire. At least one of them was occupied. The rescued victim is being treated at the hospital for burn wounds. The cause of this fire is under investigation. Sky force 10 was also over this restaurant fire in Montgomery County last night. Flames broke out at a restaurant on south broad street. Crews attacked the fire with hoses high in the air. There were no reports of any injuries. Investigators will be back out there today checking to see what started this fire. Now to some news from our Lehigh Valley bureau. Officials with the faa are investigating this plane crash in allentown. They say the plane is an experimental aircraft. It crashed into the Little Lehigh creek yesterday morn. The pilot survived and was conscious when emergency crews rescued him. This morning, a university of delaware Football Player is facing Assault Charges involving a teammate. Jerel harrison is a senior wide receiver and an honor student. Police say he used his helmet to hit another player during a locker room fight thursday night. The victim had to be treated at the hospital. He has not been identified yet. A judge ordered harrison to stay away from the victim and to stay away from the school. There will be plenty of action on the Schuylkill River today when the bayada regatta gets under way. The bayada regatta is the nations oldest and largest rowing event for the physically disabled. Parts of kelly drive will be closed from 6 00 a. M. To 6 00 p. M. Expect delays this weekend if you use the delaware memorial bridge. You could see thick, black smoke rising into the air. There was also smoke coming from the building itself. Authorities evacuated everybody out of that area because of fears of chemical contamination. The death toll from wednesdays explosions has risen to 85. That number includes at least 21 firefighters and several are still missing. Take a look at this new video from the philippines of a ferry that caught on fire. More than 500 people were onboard. The fire just arrived in port. Passengers got off safely. Two crew members did have some minor injury. Its unclear exactly what caused this fire. Check out this incredible video. This was a scene yesterday afternoon when a car crashed right through a Camden County liquor store. Bottles of alcohol went flying off the shelves, literally. It happened at the winoland in laurel springs. The stores owner tells us that an elderly woman was behind the wheel and that there was a similar crash here just a few years ago. Were right on the threshold with forecast highs close to 90 degrees. Heading into tomorrow, gets even hotter. Our humidity is going to slowly creep back up, so it will feel steamy as you head out to the eagles game tomorrow. Plus, were tracking dry days, so we dont have a chance of storms in the seventoday forecast. Thats a nice change. Right now, were at 70 degrees in philadelphia. Humidity is at 76 . Wind speeds out of the westsouthwest at about 5 miles per hour, and a closer look across the rest of the region. Allentown at 64 degrees. Cape may at 66 with clear skies. And we will see mostly sunny conditions as the sun starts to come up. So it will be a nice start to your weekend.
