The steady snow, thats on track for late this morning through the afternoon hours and into the evening hours. Then well see some slowly accumulating snow. Not expecting any heavy snow here, but its going to be going all day long so eventually it will start piling up, especially on the colder grassy surfaces, 2 to 6 inches of snow can be expected. More in delaware and south jersey than areas north and west. Slippery travel, yes, late in the day. Right now most roads are just damp where the light snow has been falling. It has been melting on those warmer road surfaces. And you can see it falling at ocean city. Weve seen a mix of some raindrops with the snowflakes this morning. Snow will be moving back in to not only ocean city but eventually into philadelphia where were just seeing cloudy skies right now. Some light snow and flurries have already moved in to parts of south jersey and in delaware you can see odessa right now just south in southern New Castle County coming down a little heavier. That snow is likely reaching the ground. And farther south and east this is where we saw the snow accumulating overnight. The snow has mixed in with a little bit of rain. That rain has been just offshore. It came inland briefly, but as we go through the day you will see more accumulating snow in this area as well. Well break it down for you hour by hour to show you exactly what to expect during the day. Standing by with the latest on that information meteorologist krystal klei. Krystal. Yeah, bill, so through noon were looking at a picture to pretty similar to what you just showed. Southern delaware up into canton county and expect to New Castle County at noon we will see snow extending because at that point we think it will pass all the way up through to the pennsylvania suburbs and Lehigh Valley. Notice the temperatures though, they are for the most part a little above freezing which means were going to struggle with some melt and some accumulation as we go through the daytime hours. And we could continue to see the rain snow mix along the southern most corner of Sussex County. As we go through 4 30 this is where we expect highest accumulation totals because these are the zones that started with snow last night and going to see the snow the longest. We continue from 4 30 to about 8 30 in the evening and our models show some thinning or lighter snow starting to pull out from west to east from 8 30 through midnight thats when everything should start to move offshore. And thats about when we will end our first alert for the accumulating snow. So lets talk snow total forecasts. The most right along southern Sussex County about 4 to 8 inches. We went higher here because weve already had some reports between right around 2 to 5 inches. A few isolated reports of up to 7 inches already and we still expect a couple more inches by the days end. 4 to 6 inches over southern parts of new jersey, the shore and central parts of delaware and 2 to 4 inches for northern New Castle County, philadelphia, Mercer County and up through the pennsylvania suburbs. Notice the 2 to 4 slices berks county and Lehigh Valley in half. The northern most edge layer 1 to 3 inches because thats about as far as the snow will make it before it starts to pull back out tonight. Coming up in a few minutes well talk neighborhood by neighborhood viewing of these totals and time out our futurecast for all of our region. All right, thank you, krystal. Well, this is some of the first snow to hit the region in southern delaware, nbc10 was in greenwood, Sussex County, where the snow started sticking to the ground as early as yesterday afternoon. Just a half hour north of greenwood crews were busy spreading and salting parking lots as shoppers picked up those lastminute items. A lot of people spending the day indoors. Nbc10 Bureau Reporter, tim, tell us about the drive south to the delaware beaches. Reporter in dover as of 7 00 we had no snow, very few flakes. We got down onto delaware route 1 by millford, we started seeing a little bit of snow falling and get into the lewis area, milton, those areas, you started seeing snow on the ground. This is the boardwalk in rehoboth, i was shopping here yesterday. It was cold and gray and no snow, but look this is what we got at this point. You can also see the layer of slush underneath there that is kind of coagulated if you will and made it a little slippery in places. This is santas house on the boardwalk in rehoboth, you can see kind of how much snow fell at some point. Its kind of the crunchy snow now that packs up real nice for snowballs but you dont want to throw them because youd hurt somebody if you threw it because its heavy and wet. Not many people out here, they havent been plowing or shoveling because not a lot of people are out here. I can tell you the streets in rehoboth as you come this way, the streets, the blacktop was pretreated and you can see its looking real good at this point. Up and down the state of delaware road problems have not been in existence at this point. My contact at deldot texted me said hes um in wilmington where the first flakes are finally falling now and said the roads are all pretreated and down south and up north everyone is doing okay on the blacktop. One of the concerns yesterday i was talking to people in Outlet Stores here in rehoboth, they were concerned about the snow keeping people from shopping. On the main roads youre not going to have a big problem. Drive carefully, it could be slick, but for the most part this weather shouldnt keep you from doing your thing at least at the delaware beaches and the snow is just now starting to fall in wilmington. Live on the boardwalk, tim furlong, nbc10 news. All right. Tim in delaware now to new jersey where the snow is falling at the jersey shore on top of the few inches that fell yesterday. Nbc10 jersey reporter Ted Greenberg is live, looks like theres a little bit of a lull in the snowfall right now, ted. Reporter a little bit of a lull, youre correct, rosemary. We saw some snow coming down early this morning, then we saw sleet mixture and snow here on the wildwood boardwalk has gotten crunchier, tim was talking about that too where he is in rehoboth beach. Snow not quite as soft as it was but we have a picturesque scene here on the boardwalk, snow on the beach, out on the roller coaster, one of the pier attractions, but i mentioned sleet and icy precipitation falling from the sky, that has made the street a little slicker than they were earlier this morning. Earlier we were in rio grande. We had some video from that area, the rio grande section of middle township. And you can see that quite a bit of snow did fall overnight. And last night. It actually started last night. You can see theres a bit of snow, 2, 3 inches that has accumulated on grassy surfaces, on trees, bushes, benches, things like that. Over there the pavement is pretty much just wet. But weve been talking with some drivers within the past hour or so and they say the conditions driving have become a little more challenging. Not much accumulation, but the roads are slippery and you have to be careful driving. Im loving it. Im going deer hunting. Reporter you dont mind hunting out there in the snow . Absolutely not. I love it. My familys from minnesota. So snow and weather is what we deal with. Its wintertime. We get snow all the time. Its better than flood. Reporter good point there from karen. And it is worth mentioning no coastal Flooding Issues with this storm. Live in wildwood, Ted Greenberg, nbc10 news. Well take that good news. Thanks for that, ted. Stay ahead of the snow with the free nbc10 app. If you dont have it, download it. Make sure its on your phone. You can get instant updates and live first alert radar specific to your neighborhood. Lets go back to delaware now where we are following breaking news out of kent county. A 16yearold is dead and a delaware state trooper is okay after a shooting involving the car you see right here. It happened during a traffic stop in dover just after 3 00 this morning. Police tell us the teen suspect in the front passenger seat pulled a weapon and exchanged gunfire with a state trooper. That teen later died of his injuries. The driver of the car was treat theed for minor injury, Police Arrested him and a 15yearold passenger who was not hurt. Investigators working the case recovered a weapon at the scene. Coming up this morning, stumping down south, how President Trump is putting his power behind the Alabama Senate election. 8 39 right now on this saturday. We are tracking snow across the region, a little bit breezy out there as we take a live look in center city, philadelphia, for the neighborhoods that are still dry. Philly of course. The wintry weather is on the way and weve got you covered. Im meteorologist bill henley. This storm system is making some progress. Hard to see in this view because theyre so light, but you heard tim furlong report a few flurries in wilmington. No problem with traffic. Its going to take a long time before the roads are affected by this storm system. Wildwood you can see the snow thats on the ground, no problem out Walking Around this morning. But a steadier snow will be arriving during the day today and continuing into the evening hours. This is a long event. Its going to be moving in this morning and then with us all afternoon. So heres what to expect. The snow is moving in right now. Were already seeing that light snow or flurries in north new jersey and in delaware, but steady snow is on the way for the entire region. That will be with us through this afternoon and into the early evening hours. So the impacts we will wind up eventually with some slippery roads. So far the snowfall accumulating has been on those colder surfaces, the boardwalk, the grass. But eventually the atmosphere will be cooling so we will have not only some slippery roads but some shoveling to do. And youll want to get at that early rather than later because its going to be freezing up overnight tonight. Doppler radar and satellite this is changing a great deal since we went on the air covering the storm system for you at 5 00 this morning when everybody was dry. But the snow is making some steady progress. And we have had reports of snowflakes in delaware and south jersey. And look at the suburbs now. That is looking like its reaching the ground in chester county. Chester county is going to see anywhere from 2 to 4 inches by the time this one is done later in the day. And the heavier amounts will be in delaware and south jersey. Thats where the steadier snow is getting an earlier start and continues right on through this afternoon and into the evening hours. Theres still plenty of storm left to the south. Its riding up the coast, the center of the storm. And as it moves up the coast it will likely intensify. And thats whats going to lead to that steady snow. And its right on time for the game, the Army Navy Game at 3 00 snow will be falling. 33 degrees, not terribly cold and not really terribly windy either. Just enough of a northerly wind to keep temperatures in the low 30s. As we go into the evening hours as people are leaving the game, thats when the roads are likely to be slippery and well still be getting some accumulating snow at that hour. Well break it down for the entire region hour by hour to show you how much you can expect and when the snow will end coming up in just a few minutes, dray. Thank you, bill. And we are seeing snow alongside route 1 in delaware. This is just south of milford. You can see the car not really having any problems at all getting there down the highway this morning. This is some more video from delaware route 1 southbound headed into lewis. Nbc10s Delaware Bureau reporter tim furlong has been all over the state this morning. He sent us this video. He tells us the roads as you can see are wet. People are getting along just fine. The snow is on the grass by the side of the highway. Coming up, fighting the flames, very different picture out west. How crews there are trying to get control of the wildfires burning across california. In addition to this weekends snow, we are following these headlines this morning. A 16yearold is dead and a delaware state trooper is okay following a shooting involving a traffic stop in dover. Police tell us the teen in the front passenger seat pulled a weapon and exchanged gunfire with the trooper. The 18yearold driver was treated for a minor injury. Police arrested him and another 15yearold passenger who was not hurt. Out west firefighters are making progress in their battle against the fastmoving wildfires in Southern California. A change in the winds allowed planes and helicopters to join the fight yesterday. But Authorities Say those winds could pick up this weekend and fan the flames. One woman is dead, its the first firerelated death reported. She crashed her car while trying to escape the flames. President trump is calling on voters on tuesday to elect republican roy moore in the Alabama Senate race. This despite the Sexual Misconduct allegations against the controversial candidate. The president stumped for moore at a Campaign Style rally in florida last night just miles from the Alabama State line. 8 47 right now on this saturday. Back here in our area we are keeping an eye on lincoln financial field because it may be a messy matchup between army and navy at the linc this afternoon. The game is likely to be very memorable though with the flakes flying. Absolutely. Heres a live look inside the linc there from our eagles nest camera. You can see they still have the field covered to make sure its in Good Condition for kickoff. Meanwhile, nbc10s Randy Gyllenhaal is checking in on the final preparations for todays game. He is outside the linc with more. Good morning, randy, you there . Reporter hey, good morning. They do call it americas game. Its one of the biggest rivalries in all of college football. And this year army navy is going to get hit with a blast of cold air, maybe even a little bit of snow. Lets take a look. Fans already lining up here outside the Espn College Gameday set. They are showing up bundled up. If you are coming down, we recommend dressing in layers. Consider taking the broad street line if possible instead of driving on slick roads later today. Lets take you back in time though to 2013 here at the linc. Navy beating army 347. It was a blowout amid some blowing snow on the field. You can expect similar conditions today. And we caught up with some cadets and midshipmen this morning who tell us about the snow in the big rivalry. Last year army broke a 14year long navy winning streak. And most people out this morning hoping for some winter football. Thatd be awesome for a winter football game. Well see how it goes. Navy is our greatest enemy when it comes to football. Its december, its winter football. I think it would be awesome having some snow down here and making the game more exciting. Navy looking for a comeback this year . Yeah, i mean, 14 years straight, nobody really worried about last year, its one fluke game. Here we are back this year, well take the game this year. Reporter all right. Check out all the fans lining up outside the College Gameday set with some really Creative Signs slamming their rivals. Tailgating will officially kick off around 11 00 this morning. Back here live crews at the linc have spent hours getting things ready, you can see all the salt on the sidewalk getting ready for what could be a snowy game at 3 00 today. For now live at the linc, Randy Gyllenhaal nbc10 news. Keeping a close eye on Philadelphia International. The clouds are overhead, the snow is not far away. Dont see any snowflakes just yet or any flurries. And you can see nothing is stopping those flames this morning. This is a storm that is not going to be heavy at all. We will see light snow arriving, so i dont think theyre going to have any problems keeping up with it. Later in the day there will be snow on the ground so if youre traveling, keep an eye on not only your air carrier if youre flying out but also on the roads. So far reading its dry this morning. Thats the view from the fire tower. No sign of any snow just yet, but its not going to be long. The temperatures right at freezing for the Lehigh Valley and the suburbs. Thats a little bit warmer than it was first thing this morning. Its still dry in these areas. And with the sun up even though its cloudy, the temperature has bumped up just a little bit. Philadelphia, delaware, south jersey in the 30s, above freezing. The jersey shore, a few points reporting temperatures just below freezing and thats where we are seeing some snow. And we are seeing those colder temperatures. Eventually as the day goes on and snow moves in, the numbers will fall a little bit more. But to start with, with temperatures in the middle 30s, the snow that falls is not likely to stick on the roadways. But it will be slowly getting colder this afternoon. So some sticking on the roadways later today. So most of the snow that is destined for our area, destined for those grassy colder surfaces. Now, radar is picking up the snow that is already starting in the clouds but not all of it is reaching the ground just yet. Some very light snowflakes in delaware and into south jersey. Some of the suburbs likely getting a little bit of snow right now. And though its not snowing at Philadelphia International and lincoln financial field, it will be a steady light snow that will cause accumulation during the day today. You see some mixing in southern delaware and into south jersey weve seen some of that. Overnight though it was all snow and thats where we have seen the heaviest snow totals. This is what happened overnight delmar, delaware, 5. 5 inches already on the ground. Laurel, delaware, 4. 5 inches and lewis picked up 4 inches. Even green creek and Bethany Beach saw more than 2 inches of snow with the overnight snow. And the next part of the system is going to bring in additional snowfall not just for delaware and south jersey, no, its for the entire area thats going to see it during the day today and into this evening as well. Breaking down the timing and the snow totals for you, what you can expect by the end of it, krystal klei is standsing by. Krystal. Yeah, well have to run through the rest of our day when we up those snow totals and then well get to our forecasted totals. Hour by hour map showing nicely where the snow is so far. Just starting to try to stretch into philly. Again, flakes not making it to the ground quite yet, but when you see on radar the coloration that looks like it is, what that means is its almost there. We need a little more moisture at the ground and then well start getting those snowflakes down at the surface. Temperatures are going to be something to watch though because when temperatures are right around freezing, it can support snow, but it may not be sticking quite as well on any roadways, any warm surfaces, grassy meadow areas where we will see the accumulation. So this is at 9 00 a. M. This morning. As we go through your lunchtime now its spread across the entire map here, even up to mt. Pocono, thats about where the snow ends. So it will be lightest along the Northern Edge of our viewing area, a little more steady farther south. Steady snow pretty much continues through the afternoon hours. This is at 4 00 and notice nothing changes. Could we see a mix of rain and snow against the shore . Yes, and i actually think we will because look at the temperature, upper 30s, but were freezing in philly and below freezing in north and west neighborhoods. This is when well start to see accumulation philly north and west, in the afternoon hours. 4 00 p. M. Through all the way to 6 00 now its starting to weaken along the Northern Edge of our viewing zone. And by 10 00 or so i think this is more scattered flurries left behind. Still some snow farther south and this will start to pull out around midnight is when our first alert ends. But dont be fooled just because the snow is out doesnt mean were totally out of the woods yet. Tomorrow morning 8 00 a. M. Temperatures are all below freezing pretty much through the entire viewing area aside from right at the shore. What that means is wet roadways of now may be icy roadways tomorrow morning. Lets talk snow totals, start with the highest location and thats in southern delaware because as you just saw from bill already up to 2 to 5 inches on the ground. A couple more inches and were in the 4 to 8 range. Areas like long neck and georgetown, farther north right on through parts of new castle, kent county, salem and Cumberland County up to atlanta county these areas looking at 4 to 6 inches for the final totals that we see. Now, weve already heard from tim furlong, Ted Greenberg saying theyve seen a couple inches in these areas so thats not going to be a stretch for us to hit the 4 to 6 inch mark. As we go into parts of gloucester, camden county, burlington county, same deal, 4 to 6. And up here parts of New Castle County stretching up into the pennsylvania suburbs 2 to 4. Thank you, krystal. Coming up, a Popular Charity event on the boardwalk getting pushed back of todays Winter Weather. Jersey shore is where we saw the flakes fall first. This is what it looked like in Cape May County last night. To look at it is really nice. I like to look at it. Reporter what about driving . No. I would rather look at it from the inside of my house. We found several people who felt the same. People rushing to get Holiday Shopping done last night so they woul not have to come out into the snow to hit the stores today. A charity toy run and walk on the boardwalk in wildwood is not surprisingly postponed because of the snow, may be a little slick on the boardwalk. The pinch the grynch run will now happen sunday december 16th. If you do not have the nbc10 app, now is the time to download it. Get instant updates and live first alert radar. Coming up in a few moments well check back in with meteorologists bill henley and krystal klei for the latest on the track of this storm. Well be right back. From fields and factories they came looking for opportunity. They worked hard. We helped them work harder. They are the students of strayer university. For 125 years, weve supported as theyve rewritten the future. And to all who seek their true potential, we say, lets get it. Good morning. Im rosemary connors. And im dray clark. It is now 9 00 on this saturday morning. And our coverage of todays Winter Weather continues. Right now we are tracking snow all across the region here. And we have issued a first alert because of the conditions. You can see it on first alert radar. Now lets take a live look outside. This is the view of broad street from our Kimmel Center campus camera in center city, philadelphia. Cloudy and dry right now, but the wintry weather is almost here. Lets head down the shore. This is a live look at beach avenue in cape may where were already starting to see some more of that wet weather come in. The roads there are wet. The grounds of course snow covered. In just a few moments well be checking in with Ted Greenberg not too far from cape may. Hes tracking conditions in wildwood. And delaware is seeing snow this morning as well. This is a live look at i95 in wilmington. You can see some flakes falling, but certainly a lot more expected today. Drivers are taking it slow. First alert traffic reporter Jessica Boyington is tracking conditions on the roads and will have an update for you in just a few minutes. And we have Live Team Coverage meteorologist bill henley starts us off. Bill, you have some updates for us. Yeah, we have a first alert. That snow is spreading into the area as expected. Everybodys going to wind up with the snow. The entire area will see accumulating snow during the day. The first alert is happening now, but it continues until midnight tonight with the steadiest snow this afternoon and into the early evening hours. Slowly accumulating snow, thats what were in for. Its not going to be heavy snowfall, but its going to be going on for so long through the afternoon and in the evening we still have the potential of 2 to 6 inches especially on this colder grassy surfaces. Slippery travel later today, not so much this morning as the temperatures are really borderline above freezing for most neighborhoods. This is the view of the snow that fell mainly overnight at ocean city. Weve seen a mix of raindrops and snowflakes since then. And, philadelphia, were not seeing much in the way of snow just yet but some of the suburbs are receiving some snow. Thats an update in the last few minutes. And the snow though its not very heavy at the shore, it is coming down and we will see it intensify to a light to possibly moderate snowfall at times during the day. The snow has reached into New Castle County, not only in delaware but into south jersey theyre getting some reports of snowflakes in the suburbs as well. And it wont be long before the snow fills back in in philadelphia. And the temperatures, its going to take some time but they will be cooling you can see in northern delaware its just above freezing. Thats why were expecting the first accumulation to only be on those grassy colder surfaces. But that changes later today. A look at whats ahead for our area, well take a closer look at the i95 corridor, wilmington, philadelphia and trenton. Meteorologist krystal klei is standing by. Krystal. Yeah, bill. Lets dive right into one of our neighborhood views, you mentioned along the i95 corridor. This is northern delaware right on through to philly and up. You see parts of our new jersey neighborhoods as well. Temperatures are going to be right in the low to mid 30s through 10 00 a. M. This morning. But i think by 10 00 a. M. We should start to see at least some light snow, some flurries falling over philly and extending into the p. A. Suburbs like bill just mentioned. We had one viewer tweet us letting us know starting to see a few flakes just outside of doylestown. So we have the flakes starting to mix in at the surface. 10 00 a. M. Through 2 00 in the afternoon this is when we may see an uptick in some of the intensity of the snow. Were not going to see heavy snow today, but we are talking more steady snow in the afternoon hours. This is when we will likely see a bit of an accumulation, at least 2 inches for many in this zone. From 2 00 through 6 00 p. M. Notice farther north and west its weaken up a bit. Temperatures plummeting too, freezing in philly, below freezing in areas like wilmington and the snow will exit in the overnight hours. 10 00 its lingering flurries along the i95 corridor, 10 00 to midnight this is out of here. But temperatures are going to plummet overnight. So icy roadways are possible as we get into tomorrow morning. Lets talk about that snow intensity like i mentioned a moment ago. We never really get to a heavy snow with this system. Its going to be a light snow that weve been seeing in parts of our region this morning and then picking up in intensity just a smidge in the afternoon hours. About 4 00 is when well see a peak of more of a moderate falling and starts to weaken in the overnight hours as this starts to exit. Well talk more about your projected snow totals by the time this is all said and done coming up in a few minutes. Well see you very shortly. Thanks for that, krystal. 9 05 on this saturday. Mother nature hit the shore first leaving a fresh coating and a few inches overnight. Off and on snow continues there this morning. Lets check in with nbc10s jersey shore Bureau ReporterTed Greenberg live in wildwood this morning. Hey, ted. Reporter hey, dray and rosemary. Yeah, weve seen snow this morning, and now were seeing more of a sleet ice pellet accumulation that is coming down, the kind that stings when it hits you in the face. But this is snow that is leftover from the snow that started late yesterday afternoon and overnight. You can see its right here couple of inches on this bench. And the boardwalk here snowy as well. And within the past couple of hours the roads have gotten a little slicker, thats what weve been hearing from drivers. You see people waking up here in Cape May County in this area will likely have to brush off their cars to get that snow off of it. The roads as i mentioned getting a little slicker. We were in rio grande, rio grande section of middle township early this morning, and you can see 2 to 3 inches of snow had fallen there, mostly accumulating and bill and krystal have been telling us on the colder and grassy surfaces, on trees, benches there. But the pavement, what we saw when we were in rio grande couple of hours ago mostly just wet. But as i mentioned, drivers have been telling us the conditions are getting a little more challenging. Just clean the car off and the roads are getting a little icy and cold, so just everybody be careful out there. Reporter very good advice from karen right there. There was supposed to be a charity run and walk up here on the wildwood boardwalk this morning. Well, organizers decided probably a good idea to postpone that. So thats the decision that they made. Its now going to be held on the 17th because of the conditions. I can tell you i almost took a spill up here a few minutes ago just walking on the boardwalk. There is going to be a Christmas Tree lighting just a couple of blocks from here right outside the Wildwood Convention center later on this afternoon. That is still on. And, guys, i can tell you that tree looking especially festive right now with some snow on it. Live in wildwood, im Ted Greenberg, nbc10 news. Beginning to look a lot like christmas. Absolutely. Thank you, ted. Meanwhile, southern delaware and its beaches are also getting some of the first snow from the storm. And we are very lucky because we have a delaware expert on our team, our delaware native and delaware resident, our Delaware Bureau reporter tim furlong whos been crisscrossing the state this morning and joins us live from rehoboth beach. Like that intro, tim . Reporter cant get much better than that. Lets talk about Ted Greenberg, my brother from another bureau, as i like to call him, he was getting hit with pelletyicy stuff, we dont know the meteorological term for that, but every now and then you can see it on my jacket. You can see it also on ray facing the wind here it stings you a little bit. Just to show you how much snow we got on the beaches, this is the rehoboth boardwalk, a lot of the slushy wet stuff. This is not the pretty fun to sled in kind of snow. Its kind of cold and gross. I also want to point you over to that pickup truck over there. Look at the top of that pickup truck. You see how much snow some people got in delmar, some of those areas just west of our area here, georgetown, Sussex County, they got a lot of snow, pretty significant amount of snow. Now its starting to get the caky crusty stuff on it which is no good, thats no fun. And certainly not fun to be out in this too if you can stay inside its probably a good idea. I can tell you this a lot of people are making their way up because they want pictures of the beach. It is absolutely beautiful to see the snow on the sand here in rehoboth. I can also tell you if you do go out the roads in most spots according to deldot are okay, they were ready for it. In wilmington theyre starting to get a few flakes. Down here at the beaches theyve had a lot of their snow and it isnt going to be that bad if youre trying to get out. In rehoboth they count on people getting out to shop and up and down the coast, bethany, those towns, a lot of them need you to come out and do shopping there. Its not going to be pleasant when youre out, wear a heavy jacket, maybe walk away from the wind if you can. But if youre going to go out, be safe on the roads, but theyre not all that bad and thats good news for you. Live in rehoboth beach, tim furlong, nbc10 news. Good advice, tim. From the delaware beaches to south philadelphia, lets take a live look from our eagles nest camera. This is where americas game, Army Navy Game kicks off at 3 00 this afternoon. You can see the covering on the field. May do a little bit of good, but the snow will be with us throughout the day. Dont worry, it will start falling shortly. Meteorologists bill henley and krystal klei are tracking it for you next. We got snow moving into the area. Heres what to expect during the day. Morning snow, yeah, its arriving this morning, but the steady snow is on track for this afternoon. And slippery roads, thats due in later today. The roads will turn icy after dark, but by then well be maply snow free. Theyre making snow on the poconos mountains, taking advantage of this. But the mountains are going to get some snow, its going to take some time for the snow to work its way up there. Cape may, new jersey, snow fell overnight. And now theres a little bit of a mix. You just heard Ted Greenberg talk about the ice pellets and that is the correct term that hes experiencing. You can see just offshore is rain, very light snowfall inland and a little bit area of a mix. Those are those ice pellets that he is experiencing. The surface temperatures at the shore those are some of the coldest readings in the entire region just below freezing for upper township and cape may courthouse, summers point at 30 degrees, 31 in atlantic city, but just above the atmosphere is a little bit warmer so that is, that ice pellet is freezing as it drops into the colder layer. And thats what hes experiencing. Now, the radar screen shows its looking very snowy, but it is falling through the atmosphere and drying out in most neighborhoods, but very light snow is being reported now in delaware, new jersey, the suburbs. Even into the Lehigh Valley and bethlehem. And there is more wet weather on the way. This is a storm system thats going to be a slow mover so its going to be with us right on through this afternoon, finally tapering off this evening. How much you can expect in your neighborhood and the timing of the exit of the storm when i come back in just a few minutes. Its taking longer for the snow to make its way to the pennsylvania suburbs, but dont worry, its definitely on the way. That area expected to see at least a few inches, thats what were tracking. Nbc10s Deanna Durante is live in willow grove, Montgomery County, where folks are out and about this morning despite the snow falling there, deanna. Reporter they are. Reporting live in willow grove, Deanna Durante, nbc10 news. Im meteorologist bill henley. Snow is slowly moving in right on schedule. Its very light snow for the entire area. Now, not everybody is seeing it, but you just saw deanna in the suburbs and you see the radar echoes looking a little more impressive than they did first thing this morning and snowflakes just started falling at lincoln financial field as well. Its going to be a snowy game this afternoon. Thats when well be experiencing some steady snowfall. Its going to take some time, but were still on track to see the highest snow totals for areas to the south and east. Thats where some snow fell overnight in southern delaware and at the shore. But thats where the steadier snowfall will be during the day today. And through it all the temperatures will be coming down. Already impressive totals. Thats from overnight that fell in delaware and south jersey. What comes through during the day is only going to add to those totals. That is just Getting Started right now. But it is coming. Thereve been a few doubters that woke up and saw dry conditions, but its coming one way or the other and were going to have to do a little shoveling later on. How much . Krystal klei has the latest from the first alert weather center. Krystal. Yeah. So lets go through that hour by hour model, taking over temperatures here below freezing north and west neighborhoods, still above freezing south of the i95 corridor. Areas where youll have melt and at the shoreline mixing of rain and snow as we go into those afternoon hours. So by lunchtime do expect that snow to extend all the way to the Lehigh Valley and berks county. Already getting reports through the suburbs and just saw from the linc camera flakes that are now falling over philly. We go through 4 00, still fairly steady snow across the entire region, which means this is when well start to see that accumulation in the mostly 2 to 4 inch range. But notice by about 6 00 starting to weaken up along the western edge of our viewing zone. Thats the white color that you start to see. The deeper blues still a steady snow. And this continues through about 10 00 near philly more flurries and steadier in south jersey. 10 00 to midnight though this thing is out of here and then becomes the next drop, tomorrow morning temperatures consistently right around or freezing which means by tomorrow morning wet roadways may turn into icy ones. Lets talk about our Snowfall Forecast here with our snow totals. The lowest amounts in the Lehigh Valley and berks county about 1 to 3 inches. 2 to 4 over the suburbs and into philly and some parts of southern new jersey. But jersey 4 to 6 by the time this is over with, highest abouts 4 to 8 for snow total. On this saturday 35 degrees outside, were still a little bit above freezing. You know, look, obviously this is not a major snowstorm, but we want to make sure youre prepared because we havent driven in this kind of weather in a long time. Yeah, fortunately so far this morning we havent come across any major problems but were noticing snowfall is starting to pick up now moving into the city. I suspect we might see some conditions change later today, right, jess . For sure. Especially when we see more people head out the door if they decide to do so. So what were looking at here is delaware, parts of southern delaware that actually have pretty much precipitation some form of it or another covering the entire state. Right here route 13, parts of route 1 pretty much covered too. Northern delaware coming into south jersey, heres 295, 95 leading all the way up into center city as well. Also looking at center city, expecting higher traffic around these areas. You can see we dont have a lot of red, but we definitely have precipitation covering that as well. Vine street expressway around 8th street looking okay. For the most part dry in both directions so were not seeing any of those delays. Small accident to worry about in lower frederick on main street and evergreen lane and end in new jersey where were seeing snow in some areas. This is golden state parkway near wildwood. The parkway looks good because theyve done a good job of salting, but watch for snow and slippery spots. For more snow coverage and updates stay with us. Well be right back. Youve worked hard. We caught up with kobe bryant who told us about his game day rituals and theyre probably going to sound pretty familiar to the superstitious die hards out there. But i get nervous before every game i get nervous. You know, sometimes, like sitting on your couch and things are going well, you dont want to move. You know what im saying . I dont want to move, and if something goes south, you stand up, walk around until Something Else happens and you find that spot and you stand in that spot until that spot dont work no more and you move to another spot. So im a little neurotic. All right. Well get you ready for the eagles rams matchup. Hopefully youll be able to move around during the game tomorrow. All starts tomorrow morning at 9 30. Well, we wish we had that sunny Southern California weather, but unfortunately well get sunny weather tomorrow. Okay. But youre right to ask about the getting around tomorrow. What falls today is going to freeze up overnight tonight as the temperatures will be plummeting overnight. Now, take a look at this. This is the linc, look closely. Ive seen seven snowflakes so far. But more are on the way. The forecast for the game is a snowy one. But the temperatures are going to be holding just above freezing. And i know they got that field heated, so i think we will probably see a nice snowy game, but accumulation on the field unlikely. Looks snowy on this radar and satellite, but again, thats very light snowfall thats swinging into the area while the rain is just offshore with the exception weve seen a little bit extreme southeastern delaware of mixing this morning. Were going to wind up with snow, light snow accumulating through this afternoon and continuing into the evening hours. By late in the evening though this will taper off. Our first alert comes to an end at midnight tonight. This is an allday event. It is. And thats right. Its going to be a light snow, but its going to be a steady one. Add up all the hours and so 2 to 6 inches in our viewing area, thats not out of the question. So just wait. Be patient. Be patient. Watch out the window. Its on the way. Thats all for now.
