Threat. Good morning, im dray clark. The river is rising putting people in bucks and mercer counties in danger. Pamela osbourne is live where precautions are under way. Reporter good morning. Were expecting the river to rise up about a half foot above flood stage sometime today and its all because of this. These thick chunks of ice that jammed up the Delaware River prompting road closures and Flood Warnings. I want you to look at this. This is farther down the road in lower mayfield township. What youre looking at is river road and its hard to tell where the road starts and river ends. Police have blocked off river road from richardson and east trenton and also blocked off some of those residential side streets that lead down that way. But back to the Flood Warning, theres one in effect for southwestern Mercer County and southeastern bucks. Some locations like trenton, yardley and morrisville, could experience flooding which we are beginning to see. We already saw some of that over on route 29 in trenton, that flooding could be an issue over the next couple of days because its hard to tell when that ice will break up. We saw a deer that wondered on the ice and made its way closer to the trenton side and that brings me to my next point and we see people coming down here to take pictures. Thats all fine but weve also seen people venture out on the ice. I cant say enough what a bad idea that is. Not all of this is solid. Theres some nonicy spots where you can see how quickly the river is flowing now. As we begin to come back out here live, i want to point something out. Fortunately the people who live over here, this residential park, theres a big mound that kind of separates the residential side from where the river is right now. I did put in a call to the coast guard to see what they are going to be doing if theres anything they can do to help address this situation on the ice. But my colleague cindy long, on the other side in new jersey, shes going to have more on conditions in trenton thats coming up at 11 30. Reporting live in morrisville, pamela osbourne, nbc 10 news. We want to continue our Live Team Coverage with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist krystal were looking at the Flood Warning in place, portions of bucks county and Mercer County. You see brushing up against trenton along the Delaware River. Theres a couple of concerns. Were not going to be warming up more so thats not going to help with any ice melt. We have an ice jam and if there is some kind of shift too rapidly the water flow thats been backing up may try to funnel down the river quickly which can lead to another Flood Warning down flow. This is something well have to watch. Ive been watching the flood stage monitor and forecast for the next 48 hours and it looks like through mid wednesday, this is going to be something well have to watch through about early tomorrow morning the Flood Warning is in place because thats what were looking at as pamela mentioned, the potential for another half foot rise above flood stage, flood stage is at 20 feet. Right now its about 19. 87 feet and it looks to go above that. The rest will be the major watch day and well have to continue to watch this through mid wednesday and we will continue to update you if this warning is extended over the area. Lets pull it out wide. Images of empowerment, last year 50,000 converge on center city in a show of unity against sexism and joined by plenty of men who love and support them. This year the march remains the same but theres an Even Stronger calling and Group Connection and wake of the me too movement. Joining me now to talk about the 2018 march happening this saturday, organizes see lean that and vickie. Lets talk about the theme of that years march our Planning Team put a lot of thought into that theme. It is exactly what it says, we resist, we persist and we rise. So its i think that shows sort of a trajectory of experience for most women. The first is resistance then persistence into rise. I think were at a place now where we have risen as woman, were unapologetic. And you know, we are happy and working with a very diverse team, women from all walks of life put together their time and influence upon the organization of this march and rally and were really really excited about what we have produced. This really is a season of empowerment. With so much going on in the way of sexual harassment, the me too movement, women feel empowered. And because of the season, do you think youll see even more women come out . I do believe so. Last year we had about 50,000 as you mentioned. I think that women are just tired. We are tired of not having a voice. We are tired of people underestimating who we are. And its just time for us to show up. Were going to show up and march and were going to echo this voice of were here. Were not going anywhere and after all of these years we finally have a voice. Its time to move forward. Were traa train in motion. Men also welcome, right. Men are welcome to march with us. We will be very clear, not many men are going to be speaking because the voice of the women, the ordinary women is what we want to capture in our presentations so yes, but we welcome all men to join us and walk with us. All right, nikki and sellema, best of luck. The womens march if youre interested in attending, the 2018 womens march on philadelphia, this saturday, january 20th from 10 30 until 3 00 p. I wanted you to hear some of the sound without getting too close. This is what were dealing with along the river out here. Take a look as we show you what looks more like an arctic tundra. How this happens, with these giant chunks of ice clogging the river, the moving water underneath has nowhere to go. The Delaware River will hit flood stage at 20 feet and right now were at about 19. 9. So the jam up of ice is already causing trouble on the roadways, we have some of that video from earlier today, including closures, a good stretch of southbound 29 is iced over and Officials Say some residential streets will begin to have water rising. The problem with the frigid cold and with this flooding is that the roads will become skating rinks. So police have some areas near richardson and east ferry avenue blocked as a precaution. My colleague pam osbourne and nat shaffer on the other side of the river, they captured video of a deer that ventured on the ice closer to the trenton side. Some people have also been coming to take all of this in and take photographs, but they too teenagers have gone on the ice which according to officials prohibited, very dangerous and risky idea. As you can see where we are here at our live shot, some of the water is moving underneath. Dray, original natalie it was set to expire tonight but now it is an openend d warning. Nbc 10 first alert meteorologist is here with the most accurate forecast in town. Its still a cold one. Yesterday was cold and saturday was cold and today well run in line with that. The last couple of days we saw sunshine, not so much today. Well stick with the cloud coverage and look at this. We pull out real wide, this is what were tracking. This storm center and that cold front associated with it are heading our direction. Going to bring us some snow but not until tomorrow into wednesday. Today it will be all about the cloud coverage and cold thats stuck over us. Here are the temperatures were sitting at right now. 20 in allentown. 25 in wilmington and 26 in philadelphia. 34 in atlantic city, a little better off there breaking the freezing mark but some areas especially north and west not even going to break freezing today. Were going to stay with this cold trend, take a look at that temperature trend over the next 12 hours. Well peak here near freezing in the afternoon. In evening falling back in the upper 20s. Because of the cloud coverage we wont fall terribly low overnight but will stay cold. That cold lasts tomorrow when the snow starts to approach. Coming up in a few minutes, were going to track out when the snow will make it into your neighborhood and how much you may see and what you really care about. Well talk about the weekend warm jum that moves in just in time for the eagles game. Today volunteers are honoring the legacy of dr. Martin luther king jr. With a day of service. In wilmington, new castle county, the Delaware State Bar Association held its annual mlk breakfast and day of service. Joe biden gave the keynote address and took part in a q and a and other dignitaries online. Dozens of philadelphia stunt students created and painted nine sculptures on display at city land marks. We have an inside look at the froth a project and its impact. I just love the fact that this is in our city and that this is community driven. A key component to the project is that the kids would be using quotes from dr. King and using that as inspiration to construct the art. The intention there that the words would be absorbed because they are an expression of dr. King and what he stood for. We must live together as brothers or its going to be on the sword here and written on the sword. The sword is representing this like that power that he had, that great power he had within his words. He wanted people to come together in peace, no matter their skin color and as were working on this project, you look around the room and see a bunch of different skin colors, races and i think you just live in his dream. I hope that the kids are inspired through this project and they find something they find something worth standing for and they are brave enough to find their voice. And to keep fighting and keep marching. He inspired me with a speech. Free at last, free at last, thank god almighty, were free at last. The sculptures on display through next month at several locations including the africanamerican museum, the Philadelphia Museum of art and city hall. You can find the full list on the nbc 10 app. The project is sponsored by comcast, which is the Parent Company of nbc 10. Shifting gears to sports now, eagles fans, the title match is now set. Another cold day for us but more importantly comes tomorrow when this system makes its way to us. Were tracking snow in the forecast. Well look at how much you may see by the time it moves out on wednesday coming up. Imagine a World Without any form of sexism, nothing, even given todays climate with the me too movement. It is a bold vision. A daring one and it is at the center of a play about to premiere this week in center city. Joining me now to talk about the play called sensitive guys is director ever end and bichon. Interesting title. Guys hear the word sensitive and they get uncomfortable. Tell me about the premise and story behind sensitive guys. Well, it actually centers around two different groups of young people on a college campus. A group of young women and young men, both of whom are played by the same cast of female bodies and its about Sexual Assault on campus, how we talk about it, how we cope with it and also how we handle issues that pertain to Sexual Assault as both young women and men and administrator as on campus as well. Its supposed to be funny and will be funny and insightful but it takes on a serious tone considering the climate, right . Yes, its m. J. Kauffman, i think this is sort of his specialty, to look at really difficult issues with humor and humanity and the thing that the play is dealing with is how difficult it is to talk about this issue, how difficult it is to face this issue. And how as well meaning liberals of any gender, when we try to deal with it that its so ridiculous, the knots we tie ourselves in. Theres great humor to be found in that, seeing these young men and young women sort of try to do the right thing and fail and obviously it starts quite funny and then we take the story sort of to a sightly more emotional place. With so much happening right now, what do you want your audience to walk away with once they see the play . Thats always a hard question. I feel like. Especially for this play. This play i feel like really deals with the complexities of this issue. And its really important to us to encourage people to believe survivors. I think thats sort of its first mission, that if a woman comes forward with the story to actually take them seriously, rather than immediately question them. I think thats something that is slowly starting to happen which is great. But also to see how the systemic issues were facing in this case, on College Campuses but everywhere really in the Entertainment Industry everywhere. Focuses on individuals takes us away from the larger problem and i think thats what i would love people to be thinking about. All right, director everyend and bishon, sensitive guys opens next wednesday, january 24th and runs through february 11th at the prosceniu muxt in center city philadelphia, tickets are available and you can get more information right now on nbc 10. Com and the nbc 10 app. Lets start with a few camera views, we have that gray sky overhead and thats consistent across all of our neighborhoods. We jump over to cape may and same deal. Gray sky but no rain, snow, anything like that to be produced quite yet. Yet being the key wortd there. Look at the wind speeds, they are not terribly strong, around 5 and 15 miles per hour, little stronger atlantic city, 17 miles per hour. It is enough to make it feel colder than it actually is outside. Heres your feels like temperature, feeling like 16 in philly. 10 for pottstown and 9 in allentown. 23 in at lancaster stickatlanti. Its been cold, were going to stay cold today. Not just freezing cold but subfreezing for many spots throughout most if not all of the day. Now, we have been worried about the ice jamming issue along the Delaware River, this is brushing between bucks county and Mercer County near trenton and yardley and morrisville area, under a Flood Warning and we saw it a few minutes ago, there was video of people walking on this. Huge issue because this is ice under water it can shift. The Flood Warning is in place through at least tomorrow morning but its an open ended warning. This may extend. I checked the flood forecast of the flood stage level. It looks like through tomorrow morning it may increase a bit more, about a half foot. More flooding is likely and then for next 48 hours, this will be an area well have to watch. Ill also have to watch this area, because if that ice loosens up and shifts it all, that could be enough for quick flow of water to move through thats been backed up. That could lead to a secondary Flood Warning, something well watch as well, especially as tomorrow we get another system moving through that could impact that zone. Now, there is a system were talking about. Bringing snow scattered from chicago all the way to cincinnati and stretching well to the west of us. This is going to spread our direction. You see the first little outer bands. I dont think its going to bring us much today. But tomorrow we will have a chance. Watch us roll through the hour by hour model. Today in the clear, temperatures staying mostly in the 20s to low 30s. We go to tomorrow morning and snow chances will start along the north and west neighborhoods, looks like theyll stick there though for the morning and early afternoon hours but as we get that the later afternoon and evening, thats when the extension will begin. Its a cold front moving through. Its going to bring very cold air on top of cold conditions. There may be a brief icing period but this will be a snow and snow rain down south event that lasts through at wednesday morning, 7 00 a. M. And starting to exit by wednesday afternoon. Notice we stay cold through this whole event. Below freezing for the next 48 hours and as the snow passes, it doesnt look like a lot of snow, it will be enough that tomorrow evening and tomorrow rather wednesday morning those commutes could be slippery. Heres the snow potential for neighborhoods, were looking at 1 inch or less over the south neighborhoods, and 1 to 2 inches in philly and 2 to 3 in the north and west zones. Well get to the ten day on 10 coming up. Thank you, new this morning, bringing new life to a vacant building, a couple is making it their mission to bring an athletes dream house to philadelphia.
