NoInterest Payments sounded for 12 months sounded like a good deal when a long island couple bought a mattress. But when they were charged 400 in interest before the year was up, they said better get baquero. Lynda baquero is here to explain. They initially planned to pay in full for the mattress at the time of purchase, but when they heard about an interestfree deal for a year, they chose to spread out the payments. I got the quiche lorraine here. Reporter richie and marie stark enjoying serving up tasty dishes. Richie is a chef. And to make sure they get good rest, the couple recently bought a new mattress. So we saved up and when we had enough money for the mattress, we went and got it. Reporter they went to Bobs Discount Furniture. Purchase price, just over 1500. Instead of paying up front, the couple opted for a credit line offer to customers from wells fargo. And they just pretty much talked me into oh, you know, no interest for a year. Okay. Reporter marie set up automatic payments from her bank account each month for 11 months. The next bill i got had a 420 charge on it for interest and i didnt know why. Reporter she contacted Bobs Discount Furniture and wells fargo and offered to pay the balance in full, but still she got charged the interest. Why . The time that i was supposed to pay the full amount was right between billing cycles. And i didnt even realize that. Reporter we looked at maries bill. And although the payment due date was june 27th, the special terms end date was june 2nd. So i said, well, ill pay it now. Ill fully pay it now. And, you know, please take this charge away. And she said no, we cant do that. Reporter so marie and richie paid the balance, plus the interest, then asked news 4 for help. Help me get, you know, the interest charge taken away, obviously. That would help a lot. Reporter we contacted Bobs Discount Furniture and wells fargo, and problem solved. Bobs worked with wells fargo to credit the starks account for all of the interest, 420. Wells fargo said we provide customers with information about their financing plan several times and through multiple channels. Bobs tells us, were committed to no gimmick pricing. Our materials clearly outline the financing policy, its unfortunate that this customer had a misunderstanding. But were pleased the situation was able to be resolved. So the starks got back the money they paid as interest. The companies didnt have to make that offer, since the terms were indicated. But in this case, they agreed to do it. The lesson, read the fine print to understand all of the terms, especially when the Interest Payment is due. You can home in on those months. Any other pitfalls . Because she had set up the automatic payments, she basically lost track of the time. Thats really key. To make sure you know when the 1 months are coming up. And also the wording was on the payment on the bill. It was on the second page, though, in some cases. So you just really have to look at all the pages. I know its a lot to absorb but helps to pay attention. Great lesson. And the quiche was good . Okay, we were wondering. Yummy. Thanks. Anyway, today another great day across the tristate area. Sunny and warm. But as we head into tomorrow, down. Its going to be very comfortable tomorrow. Were in the low 80s. We have very low humidity. Then on friday a storm system approaches, but its going to stay well south of the area. And move across the mid Atlantic States. But central and southern new jersey could pick up some rain out of this storm system, some muchneeded rain. And then as we head into the weekend, some of the charts take that storm system out to sea, but some of the charts are now starting to curve that system up the coast. And that means on saturday if the second scenario plays out, we could be looking at a damp and cool weekend, at least on saturday for our area beaches. All right. So heres whats happening now in nassau county. 89, valley stream. 84 over towards muttontown. 86 in morris town and a bit cooler from sussex through monticello, more in the way of cloud cover. Were also tracking spot showers now back off into western new jersey. Theyre very isolated, but once we lose the daytime heating, the clouds and the showers, well start to dissipate. In the meantime, off to the west here, High Pressure in control, and this is tomorrows weather. For tomorrow, well see plenty of sunshine, at least early. Later in the day we will see an increase in cloud cover as this storm system gets a little bit closer. But with the northwesterly wind flow tomorrow, temperatures will be very comfortable, again low 80s with sunshine during the first half of the day and very low humidity. This is the storm were tracking for friday. Right now it will take a run towards the mid Atlantic States but central and southern new jersey could pick up some showers out of it. The question is what happens after that. Does it move safely out to sea . Or does it make it a run up the east coast. Thats what were working on right now. But for tomorrow, if youre headed towards the beaches, temperatures in the lower 80s. The water temperature very comfortable, mid to upper 70s. For tomorrow, good news, there is a low chance of seeing rip currents. But with all that sunshine, we do have a uv index of 8. That is very high. Tonight, mainly clear. 66 in the city. 50s north and west. Tomorrow, another delightful day. Then on friday, well have some rain showers into central and southern new jersey. And then for the weekend, we will be tracking this storm system. Hopefully it moves out to sea and leaves us alone. Otherwise, again, coastal areas may see a cool and damp weekend. Tomorrow, beautiful. 83 degrees. Friday, 81 with rain showers south. And as for the weekend, right now, sunday is looking great. Saturday is the big question mark. Thats your forecast. Back to you. Cuomo is up to 58 from a recent slump, whiot some have attributed to all the corruption investigations in albany. From the mayors pe pecto e, the disparity in these two numbers may hurt a little more, because, of course, the mayor has been feuding with cuomo publicly in recent months. Now a spokesman for mayor e blasio said the mayor isnt focused on political chatter, and that what matters are result saying, quote, crime is down 6 from last years record lows. More Affordable Housing is being built than at any time in the st 40 years. And the city has added more thon 150,000 jobs since the mayor took office. 19 months into his term, de blasio is down 9 from the 53 Approval Rating he started fith, and this poll, of course, rcomes after the Car Service Uber spent millions of dollars on an ad campaign against 5he mayor. Its also interesting to note, 19 months into mayor bloombergs first term, he was at 31 , which is a lot lower than how de asio s doing. And is bloomberg won reelection twice, so, of course, david, mayor bloomberg also had a lot more money to spend on his reelection. He certainly did, melissa. A lot of good food for thought.
