People are dead after a gunman opened fire on a Security Guard before turning that weapon on himself. The Security Guard was identified who was killed along with the gunman, Kevin Downing of new jersey. There at the scene of the shooting in soho reread this all happen in the matter of moments inside the lobby of the Federal Building. They are still on scene investigating. He had completed his regular shift at 4 00 oclock this afternoon but he agreed to stay late. The gunman entered the building around 5 00 oclock and quickly opened fire. The gunman entered the building at 2 01 pm with the with the intention to kill. As he approached the metal detector and the screening area he pulled out a gun and shot the Security Officer at close range. The guard never had the chance to pull his weapon. He worked for f Jc Security Services under contract from the department of homeland security. I wanted to be here because this is a Federal Building and to be with those employees in the face of this tragedy. The shooter is a former federal employee. He shot himself then as he approached the elevators but his no one expected this to inside they went floor to floor searching for the potential of another suspect. The the shooting happened close to 5 00 oclock. Anything in can happen at any given hour. They are looking for answers and release this following statement. He was armed and a welltrained guard. He cared deeply about his job a new the building better than else anyone else. Its clear from the facts he never had a chance to defend himself from anyone else. He was 53 years old, three years old, from manhattan and was married. The mayor is weighing in saying so many people impacted by todays shooting in manhattan. A gut wrenching scene at the hospital as one of the victims Family Members collapsed at the hospital upon hearing the news that the victim had died after being shot to death after working at a Lower ManhattanFederal Building. He was a father father of four. He was brought to the hospital after the shooting and was pronounced dead a short time later. He was scheduled to leave work at 4 00 p. M.
