Warrington Borough Council is currently installing the puffin crossing close to St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School.
For several years, parents of pupils at the school have been lobbying the council over the implementation of such safety measures after the lollipop lady services was withdrawn.
More than 500 residents signed a petition calling for action over road safety in the area back in 2016, following a number of near misses involving students and vehicles.
And, five years on, roadworks are now underway.
A WBC spokesman said: “A puffin crossing is now being installed adjacent to St Oswald’s RC Church.
“It follows concerns raised by residents about difficulties in crossing Padgate Lane at this point.
