Jersey and delaware and it is in the process of inching its way up toward wilmington and philadelphia over the next hour or two. As we take a look at temperatures, were at 66 degrees in philadelphia. 67 in wilmington. Still just 59, cool and comfortable up in allentown. 63 in trenton and 70 down in cape may. As we take a look at where numbers are going, theyre not going nearly as far as theyve gone recently. 65 degrees by noon. By 3 oclock 68 and were going for a high of 70, could come a little bit later in the day. By 7 oclock, 69 degrees, cloudy and eventually rainy especially in the lower half of the region and areas around i95, maybe the pennsylvania turnpike. Again, the view down to the south shows us that there is a wave of low pressure that could potentially become a tropical depression or Tropical Storm a little bit later this morning. If it does get a name it will be entrepreneurial m either way the effects on us are going to be the same. We have onshore flow giving us a high risk of rip currents and theres also a high wind advisory in Cape May County and delaware where we could get gusts up to 40 and 45 Miles Per Hour starting at noon and going until midnight. Better weather in the seven day karen. Ill check that shortly. All right dave as we look live at i95 near cottman were clear and dry and weve got light volume. No big accidents on 95. Thats your southbound traffic headed towards center city and moving pretty nicely right now but we have a few accidents out here to watch and this one were hearing involves a downed pole. County line road at newtown road here in upper moreland township watch for crews on the scene with that one. Whenever you have a downed pole sometimes it takes a little longer to clear but this one has just cleared on cherry lane at mos erode in pottstown. Traffic is moving a lot better. In morrisville route one northbound at Oxford Valley. Police are telling us its an accident involving a vehicle that drove off into the woods here so we have crews on the scene dealing with that accident as well. Outside live on the vine street expressway no overnight construction. The vine is opened. Weve got light volume. Were still dry here. Good to go at least on the vine. Matt and jeanette. Thank you, karen. The rain continues to fall in the houston area and throughout the night there have been scenes like this one up on the screen playing out. Volunteers continue their rescue efforts using dump trucks and boats to get to the people still stuck in flooded neighborhoods all over the city. Houstons Convention Center is at capacity but will not turn people away. As of early this morning there are more than 7,000 people taking shelter there. Six people have died as the result of the storm. Officials in houston say there have been 4,000 water related rescues over just the past 24 hours. The coast guard says it has rescued another 3,000 people by boat and air. We saw dramatic views of helicopters coming to peoples aid as they stood on their rooftops surrounded by water on all sides. Unbelievable. Its just unbelievable. Cant believe it. We never experienced anything like this. We just got rescued out, so this is the first time we even seen how much how much water it has been so its crazy. Officials are estimating that when the rain finally stops falling more than 30,000 people will have been displaced. President trump will travel to parts of texas today to tour the damage and meet with local officials. Now the philadelphia area continues to reach out to the victims of harveys devastation. Two more local red cross workers leave this morning. Action News ReporterKatherine Scott is live in center city with more on that. Katherine. Reporter thats right, jeanette and matt. Today two more trained red cross volunteers will be leaving from here to head to texas. This chapter has already sent 10 volunteers. Meanwhile inside the philadelphia headquarters at 23rd and chestnut the National Call center has been busy with volunteers handling more than 13,000 calls from victims in texas since this center was activated last week. Today the two trained American Red Cross volunteers from the eastern pennsylvania chapter will leave in an Emergency Response vehicle and head for a staging area in louisiana before being assigned to their affected area. The Salvation Army of eastern pennsylvania and delaware is also planning to are deployment to texas with volunteers planning to leave tomorrow to provide emotional and spiritual support. Meanwhile there are also efforts under way to help storm affected animals. Saint Huberts Animal Welfare Center mobilized its sister station transport program. This morning theyll welcome at least 100 shelter dogs from texas to their madison, new jersey, campus. After the dogs eat and rest, many of the animals will be transferred to partners along the northeast corridor including shelters in our area. This helps provide capacity for animals displaced by the storm. Again, those dogs are expected to land in Morris County later on this morning. Were live in center city, Katherine Scott, channel6 action news. Jeanette. Katherine, thank you. The young and old people are doing what they can to help including fiveyearold jett sporting his superman cape and texans hat. Jett is raising money for the red cross. He was originally from houston but now lives in philadelphia. He set up a Lemonade Stand in olde city yesterday. All of the money raised is going to the red cross. And if you want to donate you can call one800red cross or text word harvey to 90999 to automatically send a 10 donation. Right now they are only accepting monetary donations for hurricane relief. And action News Reporter chad pradelli is headed to the flood zone soon. His live reports for action news begin tomorrow afternoon. Other news and new this morning, a shooting left a 19yearold injured in southwest philadelphia. This was the scene along the 3000 block of south 74th street just before 10 00 last night. The victim was shot in his legs, arms and midsection while sitting in a car. Police rushed the young adult to penn presbyterian hospital. No arrests yet and a motive has not been released. The fbi is looking for two women wholl tried to hold up a bank in the poconos while dressed up as, yes, nuns. It happened at a Citizens Bank on route 611 in tannersville, Monroe County just afternoon yesterday. One of the disguised bandits showed a handgun but they both ran away without taking anything. Police think a teller activated an alarm that scared them off. No one was hurt. Tropical storm harvey continues to drench texas, Tropical Cyclone 10 is turning up surf along the jersey coast. Lifeguards along the jersey shore say conditions are dangerous and theyre telling people to stay out of the water until further notice. And that tropical depression could become irma. Yeah, it could. Some of the models are inconclusive on that right now. Either way whether its a Tropical Storm or not same conditions here for the day. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows you condition number one and what were looking at here is rain coming up the coast and you can see that at this time already coming in on parts of south jersey and delaware. Some of our western suburbs and areas really far to the west like Lancaster County harrisburg and gettysburg getting an early onset of this rain. As we look outside we have cloudy skies over the Commodore Barry bridge along the water in chester and these are one of the areas or this is one of the areas that hasnt quite gotten the rain yet but will. 59 degrees currently in allentown, cool and rather comfortable to start up in the lehigh valley. 61 in reading. 63 in trenton. 66 in philadelphia. 66 in millville and 70 in cape may and i think gradually over the next hour or so youll see that rain which is down in these areas right now push up into philadelphia. Potential Tropical Storm irma is what this is being referred to right now. The latest model run we have here shows that it might briefly become a Tropical Storm as it comes off the coast of norfolk and then probably back to an extra tropical low but either way, that position of the low is important for us in that it does put swells in on the beach and it and it will put ran in our direction even a little bit of wind down the shore. Between now and the noon were looking at rain coming up from the south spilling in off the ocean. Most of the steadier rain down south and that continues to circulate in the same fashion all the way up until about 6 oclock tonight. Some steady rain possible at times at the shore. And we get up to 11 oclock and it is beginning to move farther toward the coast. It might be after midnight before we finally get away with all of that. Down the shore, well, there are a lot of issues because of that passing low. Weve got gusts 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour particularly down south in Cape May County and delaware. A high risk of heavy surf and rip currents and the Ocean Temperatures look okay but not a great day on the beach with that rain falling. In allentown today, cloudy skies, cool, 68 is your forecast high. Were only going to get about 70 in philadelphia with cloudy skies and periods of rain as you just saw. The heaviest probably south of the city. And for the phillies tonight i think it has the potential of being a little bit damp especially early in the game and temperatures in the 60s. 62 is the overnight low with rain ending overnight. Tropical storm harvey is off the coast of texas. Looks like it is still going to make that move to the north, well to the east of houston now at this point and it will probably be up in cincinnati by the weekend and rainfall amounts down in houston not as bad as what we were looking at yesterday but probably still another three and a half inches of rain with louisiana the northern portion of that state being the focus today of additional rainfall. Todays high is 70 around here. Cloudy, a little bit of rain, steady at times especially closer to the coast and then tomorrow, clouds giving way to sun and a high of 78 and thursday 85 degrees. Now, on thursday afternoon and evening there could be a thunderstorm around with a front coming in. After that were back into the 70s and a little bit breezy on friday. The weekend still starting out great on saturday with highs getting up into the mid to upper 70s across the region and partly sunny and nice conditions and then clouds and sun and more humid on sunday with a late thunderstorm and labor day were in the 80s. There could be a couple thunderstorms. Thank you david. 5 11 now. The eagles make a surprise preseason trade sending the magic man out of town. Gunshots erupt inside a library. You can see all the flashing lights. This is morrisville bucks county route one northbound at Oxford Valley so as you head towards route 13, towards trenton here youre dealing with this accident and we can see a lot of emergency workers on the scene. Were hearing that the vehicle drove off into the woods but weve got police and penndot here so were watching that truck. Traffic is at this point getting by but its going to be a little slower as youre passing this big accident scene and they may need to restrict traffic as they pull the car out of the woods as well. Its kind of dark out there. Lots of flashing lights with the big accident in morrisville. Heres another accident in upper moreland township and this one involving a downed pole and wires at county line road at newtown road. Watch for crews. Big made in america concert coming. It is a rainy day today and a high of only 70. Many areas just staying in the 60s. Not feeling like summer, jeanette. Feels a lot like fall. Thank you, karen. Its been raining there off and on mostly on since friday night when harvey arrived as a hurricane. Some rescue attempts going on in this area right now. You see some private boats out there, the coast guard and local authorities just dont have enough boats to try and save people wading through the water trying to find dry land and its very difficult because of the massive amount of flooding in houston. Now, the rising flood waters in houston are bringing another threat. Alligators. Several people have taken video of alligators swimming in their backyards. Its cloudy, rainy at times today and cooler with a high of just 70 degrees by 3 oclock and down to 67 by 7 oclock.
