It will be most of the day snowing so we have that accuweather alert continuing for tomorrow, the steadiest between 9 oclock in the morning, 3 oclock in the afternoon during the heart of the day. Highest totals south and east and roads will be a problem. Ill talk more about that and have the expected snowfall map in the sevenday forecast. Jim. All right cecily. Lets switch live to action News Reporter chad pradelli at the penndot yard in norristown. What is penndot doing for what has turned out to be a legitimate snow event. Reporter penndot a brining salting and plowing as needed. This is really the calm before the storm. Crews are getting rested but here in the overnight hours this place will be bustling. Penndot crews have been loading up on salt getting prepared for the first winter blast of the season. Drone6 captured the preparations for overnight. Brining operations were completed earlier today. Once the snow moves in, though, an army of trucks will hit the road once again. Right now were prepared to deploy 250 trucks. Thats our game plan going into this. Well continue to monitor the forecast tonight. As things change and things go worse, we have the ability to bring in another 182 trucks in if needed. Reporter in the game of snow season this is the first inning. Supplies are plentiful at penndot. Still old man winter can be unpredictable. Weve taken it seriously. Theyve seemed to up the totals. More accumulations. Reporter officials caution a warm fall may not matter. Road temps are near freezing and accumulation on the roads is expect the more so on ancillary streets. Given the duration of the storm its possible that those road temperatures will dip down and well start to see some accumulations which then we would move from salting the our plowing operation. Reporter and penndot says it does have a communication tool so people can know what roads have been plowed and the current conditions, that is 511pa. Com. Get a link to that web site at our web site 6abc. Com. Live in norristown chad pradelli channel6 action news. Jim. Thank you, chad. Live in hammonton tonight is action News Reporter trish hartman. Trish is at the public works yard on route 54. Trish whats the situation there. A few crews are on standby right now. More crews are coming in at 11 30 to do the bulk of the work. They say they are ready for this first storm. Officials with the south Jersey Transportation authority say theyve been watching the storm since wednesday and have spent today brining the Atlantic City expressway before the snow is expected to hit. Our trucks will be out there salting and plowing for the duration of the storm and were going to keep the express ways as clean as possible. Reporter workers with the Atlantic County department of public works have about 450 miles of roads to cover according to the supervising engineer of highways and bridges. Theyre performing final checks on vehicles and loading them with salt but theyre not brining for a reason. If it does rain we lose that that it dilutes the brine so that we wont be able to treat it down to a lower temperature and actual it could actually start to refreeze. Reporter but they have a message for drivers. Well ask them if we see people out well ask the public to stay 75 feet behind our equipment, if if we have an all call that everyone will be here. Reporter in cape may county, ocean city and Officials Say extra crews are on standby and say theyll focus on clearing the roads not on flooding. We dont anticipate that this is going to be a flooding event or a big storm event for the beaches or the street flooding.
