Reporter hey, brian, ill tell you what, we went all over the city today. We just happened to end here at Independence Mall to talk to some tourists braving the cold to see these historic sights. Going throughout the town today we noticed one common thing and that is where the side streets covered pretty much everywhere we went. As night approaches and temperatures continue to fall, we came across philadelphians working to clear the snow before it freezes. First one snapped. Reporter its too heavy and too yes. Reporter thats richie on his second shovel to get his car out. Between all the traffic and frozen snow his patience was running out. On marshall street frank came out only to warm his car out. The case here, its about get a lot colder everwe hear offs first from boston then from new york as well. This weekend i going to be dangerously cold so were asking people other than going out to shovel were asking you to stay inside as much as possible. If the temperature drops and we cant clear the snow and it turns into black ice, thats going to be an even more dangerous situation. So, please use extreme caution. If you do not have to be on the roads, you shouldnt be on the roads. And check out the scene in new york city there coast guard cutters are breaking up ice in the frozenoverhudson river. The cutters are small but powerful cutting through a few feet of ice to carve a path for commercial vessels carrying critical supplies like heating oil. Nasty stuff. Alicia, thank you. And along with keeping the roads in our area clear penndot crews are working to take down dangerous icicles. Sky6 captured workers doing just that earlier this afternoon. This was along the roosevelt extension in hunting park. Penndot Officials Say theyve been doing this on other major roads all across the area this week. Well, the harsh cold is being magnified for some Philadelphia Residents who say they feel trapped on their own street. The action cam was in Oxford Circle after homeowners there called about a burst water pipe inside a vacant home. Well, the pipe is sending water into the street, flooding nearby driveways which then is freezing around the cars and disabling the tires. Anna cooper says she missed work because of all of this and says its simply frustrating. The whole drive way from the house thats leaking the water all the way down to the corner, the top end is fine but from that house on down, its horrible. Cooper and other residents say they called the Water Department which says the vacant home is on its list to shut well, as those of you in philadelphia know schools public and parochial archdiocesan all closed down once again today and heres part of the are and why. Mobile6 driving live right now through the side streets of south philadelphia. This is Watkins Street right near fourth and you can see whats happened here. What he fluffy snow yesterday has now compacted into an icy mess on the street. All those cars pretty much blocked in by piles of snow and sidewalks. If you didnt clear those yesterday, good luck with that today because they have turned into absolute ice. It is very slippery out there and remains a mess through much of philadelphia. A live look from mobile6. Everyone of course waiting for the big thaw. In the meantime we still have to try and get around. Time for the action news traffic report. Matt pelman trying to get us around those mounds of snow. The highways are doing pretty well matt. Highways are mostly dried out. Were wearing shades of purple brian and sharrie. I think it might be indicative of our frozen digits but try and get out there if you can, shovel out even though it is a little tough now. On the streets around the city we do still have a decent amount of snow and ice so it is a little tough to navigate and of course in this sort of weather a lot of our vehicles dont want to run including our bolt bus here on the ben franklin bridge. Not bolting across the bridge this afternoon. Eastbound the right lane is blocked as you come out of olde city and try and head toward new jersey because of that disabled bolt bus on our good buddy ben, the ben franklin bridge. I expect delays from that to spill back onto the eastbound side of the vine although at this point doesnt look terrible here crossing town heading out toward 95. Overall volume is down a little bit today because of people being off work and off school once again. Had a broken down vehicle on 95 southbound by girard. Thats gone. Still one on the schuylkill eastbound by girard there. That one, though, is on the shoulder. And weve had two accidents this afternoon on the pennsylvania turnpike. The one westbounds off to the side but eastbound between Fort Washington and willow grove, just 9 Miles Per Hour because the left lane is out. And heading home in Chester County doing the crawl on the westbound 30 bypass because of a crash by 322 off to the side there now but in combination with sun glare speeds are just in the 20s. I want whatevers hot send it my way. [laughter] thank you, melissa. Reporter you said it sir. Absolutely. Melissa obviously helping everybody out there today. Adam is going to try to help us out us some semblance of hope that warm temperatures are going to arrive. Really . You trying to make me like the hero here but unfortunately im giving you a zero when it comes to the next four days. Its below zero in fact. Below zero in fact. Lets take a look at the Weather Center here. Another thing that is pretty remarkable with this particular pattern we have been under is not a good thing especially for those that use the cape may ferry to commute. Second straight day in a row it is land locked or lets say ice locked here at the docks in cape may. And tomorrow theyre suspending service yet again cause as you can see the ice is completely frozen all around the ferry. So, another day tomorrow its closed and more than likely that is not going to change as we press into the rest of the weekend and early next week. As we look at numbers, 16 allentown right now 15 in reading, 17 in philadelphia, the temperature 16 in millville. 18 degrees in dover but those air temperatures dont mean a thing. You factor in the wind and it feels one below in philadelphia, one below in wilmington, two below in allentown. Trenton one location a tad above zero. Feels like 2 degrees presently. But as we go forward here into the rest of the weekend, those wind chills going to stay below zero and as we talk about this storm that just passed us here, its been a really upside down season for the wind of 201718. Places that typically see the most snow, those far northwestern suburbs not the case this winter season. Allentown has picked up just under a foot of snow so far this season, wilmington just about the same. A little over a foot in philadelphia but then at the shore over 2 feet of snow at the Atlantic City airport so far this winter season. Satellite and radar, the atmosphere has completely relaxed itself at this point here. We have clear skies. Again those winds continue to drain out of the northwest. So temperatures tonight will reach record levels for certain locations like trenton, wilmington, the Atlantic City airport. The rest of us in the Single Digits with wind chills below zero. In fact as we look at the numbers, 9 oclock tonight 10 below, allentown six below, philadelphia, millville seven below, wilmington 23 below. Up in the poconos. As we wake up on our saturday morning, basically 12 to 15 degrees below zero Delaware Valley Lehigh Valley near 30 below up in the poconos and going into tomorrow afternoon when its typically the warmest, still below zero for wind chills even in the afternoon tomorrow, so if youre thinking about heading to the poconos, change your plans. I dont want to say that but this is its dangerous here. Saturday 7 degrees with wind chills at the height of the day 15 below in the morning, 30 below, sunday 17 but still feeling 10 below sunday morning. Okay, its maybe a little better. You can get out there sunday afternoon will feel a balmy 5 degrees. As we take a look at the record lows as we get into sunday morning for philadelphia the coldest in 24 years. Were predicting one below for the air temperature, crashing the old record of four. The last time it was that cold in 1994 after a storm it was five below zero. Your four day at 4 00 forecast here, teens for the next two days. Cold but less wind on sunday at 19 degrees but still feeling colder than that even with a little breeze and then a wintry mix coming in with snow and ice late monday, monday evening, 34. And then back to the 40s on tuesday and you guys want 50s . Yes. Its coming in that sevenday forecast. Can you do something closer to 72 . [laughter] man. You knew it was coming. Forget it, brian. All right. Not getting the 50. Youre in trouble again. Still ahead on action news, four decades of service in south jersey. But first, we n accuweather alert as we are dealing with the coldest r yet of the season in some areas today, its feeling like its below zero. So cold it hurts. Yeah. This frigid air comes after yesterdays noreaster and the digging out continues from that storm. Snowblowers working overtime today down at the shore. Yesterdays blizzard along the new jersey coast dumped a foot or more of snow. Every vehicle parked on this street in absecon trapped in after the plows came by. Lets head outside and take a live look here in philadelphia mobile6 on the move giving us a view of what the streets look like in south philadelphia. This here is sixth street. This particular street appears to have a bit of a divvy here where a car can get through but as you can see snow still along the sides here. It will be a big task to get all the roads free of snow so be patient as those plows continue to come by hopefully to your neighborhood as well. Meteorologist adam joseph with more on the dangerous cold that has set up camped out. Cting that to melt with mother natures help, not going to happen here. At least through the beginning to middle of next we. Fact, temd chills remain on that very painful side below zero. Lentown, trenton is actually two above but philadelphia one below, the same for wilmington and the Atlantic City airport two below zero. And after a little bit of snow, ski resorts typically are packed because they want to get on that fresh powder but as you can see live on sky6 from Spring Mountain theres just a few souls out there skiing and also snowboarding. Even not that many folks are on the fire pits. A lot of people taking it serious and staying indoors with that extreme wind and dangerous wind chill. In fact, those winds clocked in at 41 miles an hour with the storm yesterday in philadelphia, 39 in reading, 40 in trenton. The Atlantic City 48 miles an hour and wilmington peak wind gusts coming in at 46 miles an hour and those winds will continue tonight through the day tomorrow. This is your day planner from 8 00 a. M. To 8 00 p. M. On saturday. Wind gusts 35 to 40 miles an hour still keeping those wind chills in the negative numbers throughout the day tomorrow, so really no change when were speaking of the numbers climbing back up but well chat about that, guys, coming up in the full accuweather forecast where the january thaw is in sight. Well have a look at that sevenday in a little bit brian. Adam thanks. As we said the shore very hard hit by storm. They had blizzardfor hours. This morning the sun was up and the bridge into ninth street in ocean city was clear but once you got into town, well, a bit of a different story. Those streets were a mess there. The middle of the street was plowed but cars and trucks parked on the side were stuck with snow up to the top of their tires and higher. Weve lived here full time since 2002. This is the worst snowstorm weve ever seen. Especially with the drifting. Well, marianne green had both vehicles plowed in and told us she was actually willing to pay someone to dig them out. In other news now, fire damaged a restaurant in gloucester city, camden county. This after 10 30 this morning the flames broke out at vitales italian bistro on ninth street. Staked out here along i95 in bucks county southbound side we had a crash, oh, boy, right here in the work zone by 413 but it cleared out. It was only here a little bit. Still though were tapping the brakes as we head southbound on 95 in bucks county. Elsewhere on 95 a few slow speeds heading southbound by the betsy ross bridge. Over on the schuylkill some slowing but it looks like that disabled vehicle eastbound by girard has cleared out. Still though have that disabled bus on the ben franklin bridge, the bolt bus not moving from the right lane eastbound as you head toward new jersey but at this point theres not a huge delay. Still delays on the eastbound pennsylvania turnpike, though, because of a crash now off to the side between Fort Washington and willow grove. The westbound one past willow grove has cleared. In sellersville bucks county, uhoh, 8 Miles Per Hour coming southbound on 309 because of a crash approaching 563, the exit for perkasie so thats probably not your best bet. The northeast extension could be a better option. Here in Chester County in east goshen a crash along paoli pike along vista drive. At least our wreck on the westbound side of the 30 bypass in downingtown is gone. Still sun glare out there though so still just 21 Miles Per Hour. Elsewhere in Chester County with the waze app i talked about a crash along octorara trail that has cleared and all mass transit dont forget septa regional rails remain on a saturday schedule with scattered delays this afternoon. Well check it again, brian and sharrie, coming up in the 5 oclock hour. We like what you did there with the cleese takes. Matt pelman thank you. Adam has got accuweather next. I was wondering if an electric toothbrush really cleans better than a manual. And my hygienist says it does but theyre not all the same. Who knew . I had no idea. So she said, look for one thats shaped like a dental tool with a round brush head. Go pro with oralb. Oralbs rounded brush head surrounds each tooth to gently remove more plaque. And unlike sonicare, oralb is the only electric toothbrush brand accepted by the American Dental Association for its effectiveness and safety. My mouth feels so clean. Ill only use an oralb. Oralb. Brush like a pro. Well, heres a joyful scene that reminds us of the fun that can come from extreme cold weather.
