But the big story on action news is the man on allegedly shooting a Philadelphia Police officer. It was two years ago when Edward Archer opened fire on a cop car wounding officer Jessie Hartnett in philadelphia. Trish hartman is in the courtroom for the opening statement. She joins us live with more. Reporter rick, both the prosecution and defense gave Opening Statementses this morning. And even before that as each charge was read Edward Archer rather than pleading guilty or not guilty he said he did not plead to anyone but allah. The prosecution said during the trial that jurors will see video and physical evidence and hear from witnesses on the night of january 27th 2015. Jessie hartnett was hit three times sitting in his patrol car in philadelphia. His left arm was shattered by gun fire leaving him unable to work as a police officer. And he has had 11 surgeries be the video shows archer shooting at at cruiser at close range and how he kicked the vehicle door open and chased after archer firing seven shots and archer later confessed saying he did it in the name of islam. And they hailed officer archer a hero but said put aside sympathy and focus on the law. This is a major trial. That we are dealing with. And as was stated inside. You know the attempted assassination of a Philadelphia Police officer. Not two days after i was sworn in as a matter of fact. I will never forget it obviously. The homicide detective took the stand after the Opening Statements and the young says he expected the trial to last for about two weeks. Channel 6 action news. Brand new Surveillance Video this afternoon shows a violent Home Invasion in progress. Watch as a man carries a baby out to his car in the olney section of philadelphia. And it was just after 3 00 when a criminal dressed as a mailman ambushed the viction tim on north 2nd street. And the suspect pulled a gun and forced the man into his home. And then three other men come inside and they zip tied the victim and roughed him up. Police are looking for all four suspects and they got away with 5,000 plus the iphone and keys to his house and his car. Fortunately he had just minor injuries and the baby was unharmed. And police found the wounded victim as 16th and walnut. He is expected to survive. No arrests have been made. A new proposal could leave a city divided. It calls for civilian traffic cops in philadelphia. City Council President , darryl clark, is introducing the idea at city hall.
