Students who survived the High School Shooting in parkland florida one week ago today are taking their fight to both state and national lawmakers. President trump is hosting a listening session today with students and teachers from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as other students are heading to floridas State Capitol in tallahassee where they will meet with state lawmakers today t hours before they arrived, florida lawmakers voted down an Assault Rifle bill that would have also banned the purchases frankford large capacity magazines statewide. The students say they are not backing down. Going to continue fighting. The way i like to see us were kind of like that thorn that you have in your foot that you cant take out. Were going to be that thorn until the changes that we want are impleted implemented. Many of the students boarded buses for tallahassee after attending funerals for the victims. The schools Athletic Director Christopher Hixon will be laid to rest today. Hixon was a easton Northampton County native. The fight over gun control also taking center stage closer to home. Pennsylvania state senator daylin leach says hell introduce legislation that would allow courts to temporarily take away a persons gun if they show warning signs of violence. Under the bill people would be able to petition a judge but would have to show reasonable belief that the person is a danger to the community. In the meantime, a church in the poconos says it will still host a blessing of guns ceremony planned for next week. The church which is an off shoot of the Unification Church is encouraging couples to bring their unloaded ar15 rifles with them to a Commitment Ceremony which will focus on a familys right to defend themselves with assault weapons. New this morning, a teenager remains in Critical Condition after being shot three times in west philadelphia. The action cam was on the scene last night as police collected evidence. The 17yearold was shot at 56th and sansom streets. He was rushed to the hospital in Critical Condition. Police are still looking for the gun manches. Firefighters trying to figure out what sparked a house fire in philadelphias Strawberry Mansion section at 7 00 last night on the 1800 block of north 27th street. Fortunately no one was hurt. A referee benched a High School Basketball player in philadelphia because she did not have the proper paperwork filed to wear a hijab. This varsity player has been playing with her hijab for years but this weekend was the first time that she was asked to take it off. The School District says there was a break down in communication. Reporter Nasihah Thompson King has been playing with her hijab since the sixth grade but it wasnt until this weekend that the mastery charter shoemaker student was banned for not taking off her religious headdress before the game. According to the states Athletic Association pia anything worn on the head for medical or religious purposes must be approved. Her coach was warned of the waiver two days before the game. School officials admit the rule was appropriately enforced and there was a breakdown in communication. However, Thompson King and the district say the rule itself is unfair. Could the waiver have been filled out . Sure. Is it an extra step that our students of different faiths have to do if theyre wearing religious governments, yes, i dont think its fair. This mornings commute on i295 south in gloucester and salem counties will be a lot less sticky. Crews spent yesterday scraping asphalt off the road after a truck lost its road over a 14mile stretch. At least 20 cars drove through the sticky tar material. Tristate Transportation Company owned the truck and says it will fix any vehicles that were damaged. Turning to accuweather. Some of this is the low variety and the fog but there is also some upper level cloud cover and as we go through the day theres going to be a bit of that streaming through. And we have a car fire happening right now but theyre in the process of trying to clear this out in newark. This is i95 southbound at the maryland state line so some slowing there with a car fire. Lets check the ben franklin bridge and looking a lot better than yesterday. Its damp but you might remember those views of the ben yesterday where you really couldnt see a thing and we had speed restrictions. Not the case this morning. A violent road rage incident in New Hampshire shire left a woman on the ground shoved down wow as you see there by an angry driver. Another driver recorded the confrontation in the town of nashua on sunday. The male driver and the woman behind him had some sort of altercation prior to stopping at the light. You see the woman approach the man in the other vehicle who then gets out of his car to should have her to the ground. The woman was not hurt. Police have not said if they plan on filing any charges behind this incident. Drivers in utah faced whiteout conditions yesterday. The band of lake effect snow dumped more than 7inches of snow on this Salt Lake City area. Newly released dashcam video shows a utah Highway Patrol sergeant nearmiss on monday. The trooper was on the scene of a car crash when another vehicle slammed into his vehicle. The trooper runs out of the way and then that second car slides into the two vehicles. Amazingly no one was hurt. Two People Living on an island in north jersey cannot get to shore because their bridge was torn down. Danny van orden and his 74yearold neighbor lee donelly live on the island in sparta. The Lake Association demanded a bridge be taken down calling it a liability. Van orden uses this kayak to get across the lake. He says he could have left but decided to stay on the island because of his neighbor donelly. Shes not going to leave that home was her cat. This is where shes lived for the last 30, 40 years. Sparta township must approve a new variance for a walkway. New policy at cinemark.
