A maryland state trooper is recovering along with two other people after a car barreled into what should have been a routine traffic stop. Reporter its all too common that state troopers face dangerous situations on our area highways. What was uncommon about todays incident is that the trooper who was hit was hit by a coworker. It is a routine part of the job when Police Officers pull over a driver, but routine doesnt necessarily mean safe. Its always dangerous out there. One of the most Dangerous Things we do is when we get out of the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. Reporter the danger comes when drivers dont follow the law and move over, or at least slow down. Its still unclear whether that was the case today when maryland trooper wayne tong pulled a vehicle over. Police say the trooper began walk up to the passenger side of the vehicle when the driver of another vehicle traveling on i95, who just happens to be a civilian employee of the maryland state police, veered out of her lane and crashed into the Police Cruiser which then hit the vehicle pulled over, which then hit trooper tong, pushing him over the guardrail. All of a sudden i felt an explosion, and i remember being pushed forward. A similar incident happened to this Virginia State trooper back in february. Keep an eye out for us.
