It's the final weekend of the scenic drive for this year. Your weekend could include trips through Knox and Fulton counties with several stops at the various food, art, crafts, and antique vendors set up in the small rural communities along the drive. Take stops in Dahinda, Knoxville, St. Augustine, or make a trip to Walnut Grove Farm or Wolf Covered Bridge while taking a drive through southern Knox County. Or, take a drive into Fulton County with stops in Lewistown, Farmington, Cuba, Canton, or at Dickson Mounds Museum. While in Fulton county, stop by Ellisville for their annual volunteer firemen's biscuits and gravy fundraiser. Proceeds will go to purchase extra equipment for the station. Meals include biscuits and gravy and your choice of several drink options. While the scenic drive wraps up this weekend in Knox and Fulton counties, an event being held in Warren County on Saturday mixes peoples' love for bacon with the love for alcohol. Bacon, Bourbon, and Brews is running Saturday in Monmouth that will see several businesses in the Maple City celebrating with bacon-themed foods and items, specials on bourbon, and smaller events such as a bags tournament or live music. Sarah Walters, who owns and operates Market Alley Wines, is part of the Make It Monmouth organization that is orchestrated the event. She tells WGIL that the organization put together the event to drive business into Monmouth when the annual Baconfest was unable to hold their event this year. "... certain circumstances wasn't going to allow it to happen. So, there's a group of businesses that have got together recently and tried to make a push to bring people to our town and see what we have to offer. And so, when we found out that the Baconfest wasn't going to happen we decided, well, maybe we could do something and put a little spin on it." Visit Make It Monmouth's website for a list of participating businesses and times they're operating for Saturday's bacon, bourbon, and brews-inspired event. This weekend also sees the Songbag Concert Series return at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site with Sullivan's Daughter and Devin Flanagin playing spooky tunes from a wide range of genres to match the Halloween season. The suggested donation is five dollars at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site Barn on East Third Street in Galesburg.
