A Michigan science professor has been fired over a series of racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic tweets that he claims to have written during a personal crisis partially led by “extremely painful migraines” and his sensitivity to electromagnetic fields. Thomas Brennan announced the firing Saturday on social media before Ferris State University confirmed the decision in a statement.

Local pharmacists looking to expand role in healthcare system

By Paul Welitzkin, pwelitzkin@gaylordheraldtimes.com GAYLORD Historically pharmacists have served as a distribution specialist in the healthcare system, making sure that the medication prescribed by a physician was delivered to the patient. “Pharmacy has always been about the right drug and the right dose to the right patient,” said Jeff Steffey, a pharmacist since 1983 who operates the Central Drug Store in Charlevoix and The Medicine Shoppe in Grayling. “A lot of it was about putting pills in a container.” That is still a vital part of the job description. However, in addition to dispensing medications, pharmacists have now assumed a larger role in the healthcare system serving as a counselor and educator to patients and providing vaccinations and medical tests.
