CHARLESTON, W.Va. U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., says the United States has an opportunity to promote change within Cuba amid protests in the country.
Cuban citizens have held antigovernment demonstrations related to economic challenges, including high prices and food shortages. Authorities have attempted to stop the calls for action by detaining protesters.

Democrat-led House panel votes to repeal war-on-terror authorization
The authorization was passed in the days after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to allow President George W. Bush to confront Al Qaeda and the Taliban militarily in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
The authorization has since been cited to permit executive authority to prosecute a broad range of counterterrorism operations across the globe.
“Over the past 19 years, three successive presidents have used military force pursuant to the 2001 AUMF in more than seven countries against a continually expanding list of targetable adversaries,” Ms. Lee said.
Ms. Lee sponsored the bill to repeal a 2002 AUMF against Iraq, which passed the House last month. Similar legislation now awaits a Senate Foreign Relations Committee vote before being sent to the Senate floor.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Grand Rapids) is âgladâ U.S. troops are leaving Afghanistan but remains concerned about the safety of Afghans who served alongside American soldiers and now face imminent danger as the Taliban gains ground.
âI supported the withdrawal when President Trump announced it towards the end of his term. And I strongly supported it when President Biden announced he was continuing that policy,â says Meijer.
Meijer spoke with FOX 17 days after President Joe Biden announced plans to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by the end August, ending the countryâs longest war ahead of the original September 11th deadline.
