Relating to the Disaster Emergency   WHEREAS, on March 7, 2020, I issued Executive Order Number 202, declaring a State disaster emergency for the entire State of New York; and WHEREAS, both travel-related cases and community contact transmission of COVID-19 have been documented in New York State and are expected to continue; WHEREAS, the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic is compounded by the concurrent presence in the community of influenza; WHEREAS, paragraph l of subdivision 1 of section 206 and subdivision 1 of section 613 of the Public Health Law authorize the New York State Department of Health and local health departments to establish and conduct programs for the voluntary immunization of adults and the immunization of children to prevent or minimize the spread of disease and to protect the public health;

Pfizer, BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine gets emergency use authorization

Managing Editor The first vaccine to prevent COVID-19 has been cleared for use in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration on Saturday granted emergency use authorization to Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use in individuals 16 years old and older. The first shipments began leaving facilities on Sunday.  The FDA’s decision was based on data from its Phase 3 clinical study, whose results were published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine and which saw a 95% vaccine efficacy rate. The two companies continue to gather additional data and prepare a biologics license application for full approval from the FDA in 2021.
