the NZ Events Association (NZEA), says the record numbers
this year are remarkable given the impacts of COVID-19
during the qualifying period.
“Traditionally, the
purpose of the awards has been to recognise excellence,
promote best practice and creativity, raise awareness of the
events sector and celebrate the contribution of the

While
the nation paused last Friday to share the existential
horror of farmers and tradies maybe having to pay a little
more in future for a new emissions-emitting Toyota Hilux
from Japan… The real losers in this “ute tax” scenario
will continue to be everyone else. Presumably, we will all
have to pick up the tab if the rural sector refuses to adapt
to climate change or reduce its waterways pollution, unless
the changes required can be made entirely cost free, for
them at least.

Post-event reporting on the 36th America’s Cup (AC36)
has been released today. The reports cover the delivery of
the event by Crown, Council and America’s Cup Event
Limited, economic impacts for Auckland and New Zealand, and
delivery of critical infrastructure.
The reporting
shows that, despite the challenges of COVID-19, a
world-class sporting event was delivered.

Nelson City Council has closed Founders Heritage Park
while the Defence Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit
(EOD) assesses potentially hazardous materials found among
the Park’s collection.
Council, along with many
other organisations around the country, recently carried
out a review of the collection at Founders Heritage Park
following the discovery of picric acid in a Southland
museum.
An examination of the Park’s inventory
found a number of bottles and other items containing
potentially hazardous substances. Picric acid is suspected
to be present, but this has not been confirmed.
